BST
it was my first job to 99. i would play it more often but my inv hates me nowadays.
DRK
2nd job 99. very fun to have big hp, dread spikes, self healing + skillchaining ws. it can also technically break the hp cap.
MNK
was first job i started soloing things on. high hp, getting hit with less ws is great, can counter alot of auto attacks thrown at you.
BLU
Blue is unbeaten for me because it is a very unique job.. & it can do alot of unique things, even things like removing tp from mob & plague, insane cures (ive done upto ~2147 restoral (self cure spell only) & 1500-1600 white winds)
magic barrier - 500-600 stoneskin for magic dmg.
Can also deal great dmg while keeping mobs petrified. allowing for some weird cleaving, especially in dyna D. (entomb)
while it has to use JA to skillchain with spells or burst with them, bursting with the hybrid ele spells can do ALOT of damage. over 50k in limbus, 99999 on some other things like apex, warders.
SAM
TP gain is so fast it feels like i'm im a properly buffed party when solo. Seigan/3rd eye is also a bit underrated.
SAM, DRK, MNK, BLU all can laugh off alot of attacks. but Blue Mage is the only job where i can aggro things and not have to worry about it much.

PLD: Few people want to tank and it also functions as a healer. It lets my friends have more flexibility with their jobs. I like being able to fill in any role that's needed.
PLD is actually surprisingly fun to play.
I've never played a tank job before (I guess back in 75-era I did level my Ninja to nearly 70 as a blink-tank, but I did the TP in SH, WS in Haubergeon thing so it was actually fun and more like a DD than a true, turtle-tank thing) but recently leveled PLD and starting playing cos it seemed no one else really wanted to (like you said) and I've had a ton of fun playing it so far... in 75-era and even pre-Majesty, I'm not sure I would have liked the job much, but now it's really fun. I feel pretty untouchable in most scenarios and can easily hold a ton of stuff that would flatten me in seconds in a turtle set on any other job. I haven't even played around a ton with stuff like Shining One/GS or Ullr builds but just with Excal/Burtgang it's a lot of fun.
I haven't played RNG actually since Hover Shot was added... but this was my first/main job since 75 days and I always enjoyed the shooting-at-range type of play, so when DM2 and other similar HTMB came out that saw RNGs returning to this style back in like 2013, I was sooo stoked and had a ton of fun.
BLU and RDM are also lots of fun and have tons of potential without needing a parties worth of support. I do most things nowadays on BLU just because of the utility and sheer amount of things I can do.

Beastmaster- at 75 cap I was always impressed with the BSTs who made it to 75 and endgame, and the things the job could do solo, which no other job could do. I actually didn't play the job seriously until my wife joined the game in 2011, then I absolutely fell in love with it, learning the world and scouting, exploring, in ways that other jobs didn't really do. Even without Charm and using jug pets, beastmaster was my favorite. Square-Enix hasn't made it easy for us, from the end of 2015 with the Ready distance nerf, and a series of stupid job balance adjustments, but for me BST is a labor of love, and I'll continue to do what I can on the job. FFXI pet gameplay is the best of any MMO, and to me, of the three pet jobs, BST is the most enjoyable to play. Playing the job, you are like a one-man army, very cool kit even if it's not always the most powerful. I wish we'd get better gearing and BST-only axes and shields, but you can do a lot with beastmaster these days (though that's true of most jobs today, in fairness).
Dragoon- I've always enjoyed this job. It's had its ups and downs, hasn't had the consistent love from S-E like samurai, but the class fantasy, the iconic purple armor, jumps, the wyvern, it's so good. When fully buffed it plays very well, good balance of TP gain, skillchains, WS damage, etc.
Scholar- the job design, when you compare it with the other mages, WHM/BLM/RDM, is extremely interesting and IMO has the most appeal. I need to play SCH more, I put it down for a while since we stopped using SC/MB strats, but I recently picked it back up and am having a blast relearning the job.
Ninja- my first 75 job. Back in the day I was early on the "NIN as a DD-focused tank" wave. Like dragoon, another iconic Final Fantasy job, and it has a neat kit, Utsusemi, "casting" without being a magical caster. Katanas are one of the coolest weapon types, great animations. I still play this job occasionally. Honestly it needs a redesign to make it a viable 3rd/4th tank option. We are never getting that, of course, but having PLD/RUN be the two dedicated tank jobs while ninja has been pushed to the margins sucks, and XI is worse for it.

DD BRD is, surprisingly, a lot of fun. I've heard stories of people tossing BRD REMA, to never have to play the job again, but I wonder how many of them picked up a Naegling and sported Bunzi/Ashera for maximum damage. Also can get decent hybrid -DT%, so I've found it more durable than COR in some situations.
Heck yeah, built a BRD on my only alt for the buffs, but I got hooked on the rest of its potential to DD and more. Ended up just finding it to be a surprisingly good time when I paid it more attention, and now I sometimes like playing only on that character on BRD ( and I did get hooked and got the gear lol, Ashera and Volte STP gear and all!). When you can really focus on all of BRD's abilities it just feels active and engaging in a fun way - and since you can contribute in so many ways it's pretty satisfying to be simultaneously... providing major party buffs, while adding significant DPS, while helping with crowd control (sleeps, debuffs), maybe pulling mobs or even coming /WHM and adding even more of a support element (while still single wielding away lol).

Cancelling a higher tier shadow buff to cast a lower tier utsusemi (San to Ni) in a high-damage physical fight is still one of the most exciting things to pull off. Never getting hit through shadows is like an elite status of perfect gameplay, and shadow tanking is the most unique style of damage mitigation the game has really ever seen. The only sad part is these types of encounters are ultra rare nowadays (basically reserved only for certain MT). Still ultra fun style of play imo. I wish more high-stakes shadow tanking fights made a return.

THF was my 2nd 75 job, because I was poor and thought it would help make money better (didn't really make farming crawler silk that much less painful). It is still one of my favourite jobs and I keep it geared even if I never use it. I tried doing Kin as BRD+THF once and died at 3% or so but I wasn't playing at my best (and I don't bot heal on the BRD). If I could get that down I would use it for that.

Kin should be extremely easy on geared THF even solo (with trusts), so not sure what was your problem with BRD. Unless you mean you had 4 buyers doing nothing. Still with brd you can probably easily floor Kin's accuracy, so there would be barely any reason to cure.

I was slacking on assisting with cures on BRD, also ArkHM died. At low hp kin can one shot him with dark move. I'm not sure if Kin will use doom on PLD trusts but I assumed he would. I've done probably 700 as WAR and BRD. Tried DRK after we last debated it and it was very rough too.

With BRD, you can give your trusts two Dark Carols and Interference will do minimal damage to them. If I'm not mistaken, every single magical Caturae TP move from Omen boss is dark damage, so you can practically negate all of it with a Bard. Those trusts are weak anyways, but since you're tanking everything, they should only get hit by the routine -ga spell. Comet is dark based, so it will be nullified with Dark Carol, meteor will need to be dealt with.
Protip: call your healer first, then your support trusts (excluding Sylvie, she should always be first). If Monberaux is called after Ygnas for example, he will never run into range, but will stand idle (because Ygnas/healer stands at range). Ditto for Koru Moru, Selt'heus, etc. This will help them avoid getting hit with AOEs.
As far as it being rough as DRK, it's seemingly the same issue of trusts dying. I was able to solo it on DRK without trust campaign, but I was forced to use Apoc final push because trusts died and Interference kept dispelling Last resort. I had Cornelia, no Foenaria at the time and I don't think my Sakpatas was r30 back then. You should be completely fine on DRK using Ygnas trust with Carols.

Yes, it's true that dark carol minimises damage on ArkHM and Koru, I just wanted to try it with same buffs I normally use. WAR kills a lot faster so the under 25% is nowhere near as dangerous as on THF. I would have won if I was less tired and more attentive.
That time I didn't have buyers so would have been Yoran, ArkHM, Koru, Qultada. I do not have ygnas or monberaux

Also can do it with Cherukiki on WAR, no way that would happen on THF. I call Cherukiki and ArkHM with two buyers plus Qultada or Sylvie with 1 buyer now. Both can die, but survive better than Koru so I do dia2 and a 2nd march on BRD.

I seriously think you are doing something wrong. THF should destroy Kin with easy. I need to try it at some point, but currently I'm trying to get regal gem and I'm at 0/19

I feel like with BRD buffs you should go straight to second Target and super jump it then Trick attack someone and high jump Target at 25% and ignore the one at 10%. You could probably ignore the one at 25% too if SA and TA 3 WSs between 25% and kill.

I mean I agree, but it's possible he doesn't really have a max dps THF to really tear through Kin's health the same way as WAR can. If you play THF too conservatively, you can waste a lot of idle time. If you prep a few high TP Rudras or Ruthless, he can go down quick. My guess is he doesn't have a 4-Mpu or R15 Twashtar to really destroy this thing.
Speaking of THF, anyways, back on topic: I would say this is one of my more current favorite jobs to play. It used to feel slow and unsafe, and lagged behind a bit after Dynamis-D took off. Lately, with the addition of (Malignance helped a lot) Su4/5, Gleti's, and AF/Relic+4, THF is way more fun for pure DPS, and even has a very unique playstyle in Evasion-TPing via Su4/5. I find it to be a very risky and fun way to play THF, challenging myself to pull even more mobs each time. It's made something as boring as Omen Swart Farming or rushing to a boss (Ou or something) way more interesting. Definitely in my "most fun jobs to play" list.

I was subbing DRG. Hate management was not the issue, it was DPS. No Mpu/Twash and Naegling was working best to avoid skillchaining. Evis was pretty good too.

I used Black Mage extensively back then in the 75 era, so much so I used it during Ballista before the Elemental Magic update which, if you used it today in 60 cap, would be extensively broken. It was also the very job helped win us the Ballista Royale tournament back then. BLM taught me how to prioritize timers and the importance of spatial awareness in game content, as at the time Bind, Sleep, Sleepga, Stun, and Gravity (to an extent) were major ways to manipulate space for your team, which translated to making sure Dynamis runs ran smoothly while the hamsters in my computer were working overtime. Blue Mage. I always loved Blue Mage in any game, and the spell system setup is brilliant enough to warrant its own game. Im surprised that not a lot of games have used a system similar to this game's for blue magic--closest I can think of are Castlevania Aria/Dawn of Sorrow. Even exploring the world with Blue Mage coming back into the game, BLU taught me damage dealing, weapon skill sets, TP sets, and the like. One set I was the most proud of was White Wind, which was a fun quest to collect every HP+ piece and optimize it to its fullest. After a few Ambuscade runs where I saved people from death from using it and Magic Fruit, it made me want to pursue the healing career and get into groups better. That job would be ...
White Mage. And well timed too. Ballista was back in swing during 2022 and I managed to get in some practice matches with some LS mates. The same thing I said with BLM applies here too: having awareness of what is going on and always, always having something to do. White Mage then began in the endgame world, and to expedite the story: Yagrush is awesome, and every piece of WHM gear makes the job just slightly easier, but still challenging enough to reward proactive play and reactive heals. I felt great saving my team, but I also wanted to do something similar to saving my team. Next on the job list was ...
Rune Fencer. I was lucky enough to experience Rune Fencer in most endgame content, and especially lucky to have a great linkshell leader at the time (Mithrial) and some amazing players (Ellira/Alseyn) guide me through the process and let me get to tanking at a reasonable pace. Even with the Aettir, the Rune Fencer felt great to just stand there and tank people down. It almost had that heroic vibe to it, being the rock that holds everything together. Plus, Rune Fencer has the best looking AF gear so I knew I had to make it. I eventually even got to DD with Rune Fencer a little bit too. But naturally, it's not as impressive in the DD department. But there was one final job that caught my eye that made damage dealing a reality...
Warrior. Honestly, Vyre said pretty much everything I would about the job, so I'll just add that while it is regarded as a "Naegling Bot" at times, the amount of playstyles and weapons it can use is one of the funnest ways to play it, which harkens back to Blue Mage with its spells, Warrior somewhat does the same with its weapon arsenal. Prime Axe is now being built up, and Stage 4 is coming in close this month and I'm feeling it.

It is the reason I play XI, and don't play XIV. However, Yoshi will most likely eff BST up because he does not know what he is doing, & gets credit for WoW players deciding to make XIV a popular MMO. As XIV's luster left when they did.....I digress......
The game is just easier on BST, as a solo player.
BST has permanent SC buddy.
They are basically the Warriors of pet classes. You can wear most armors, get most builds to work outside of their S tier weapon.
With the addition of Kaja line weapons....Scythe, Dagger, Sword, H2H, etc can all work in certain situations. I got a counter H2H build on my BST/MNK with the Boar pet *Shrugs.* I tank physical Ambuscade solo runs this way.
The Chapuli and Karambit can spam dark SCs. Feel like I attack faster as a /MNK than DW /NIN or DNC........*Shrugs.*
The only bad thing about BST is pet selection. We don't have stuff like Scorpion, Mantid, Ruzor, Yztarg, Opo-opo, etc. BST pretty much has been around since XI's inception, and we don't even have half the bestiary filled as jug pets.....
Also, pet moves such as Pounce are removed for no reason......If Pounce had fusion properties, it would be a nasty combo with the Lynx pet because MBing with Charged Whisker does crazy dmg if you gear for it, even without KI & using it on mobs weak to Lightning. However, BST does 100% has its' cons......
I do wish they implement BST's trademark ability Catch and Release. Perhaps, it can function similar to TH. A BST has a chance to catch a defeated mob and release it later as a one time summon(Aka Odin and Alexander). So, there will be gear and such which enhances this ability.
Replace that with Beast Affinity and uncap all jugs, hehehe......

My favorite jobs are pretty well known amongst the people who know me
Thief - My original job to 75 and the job I spent most of my time on from the games launch up through the adoulin era. I'm very pleased to see how well the job has matured over the years. It went from a job you swapped in on HNM fights to hit a thing once then get swapped out to a job that players respect as one that legitimately holds its weight as a dd. There isn't a lot of need for it in sortie or odyssey, but it's on a pretty even footing with all the other melee jobs now and it has its own unique style of play. And its physical evasion is off the charts with the new JSE +4 upgrades. It's a lot of fun and I'll always enjoy playing it.
Dancer It feels a lot like thief, but with a lot more cures and debuffs. Thief has a bigger emphasis on white damage builds and makes better use of twashtar, but dancer makes up for it with mpu gandring and more weaponskills. The job I've played most lately since my group has been big on 9 boss sortie runs for the past two years, and you want a good one if you're gonna fight aminon
Warrior - Warrior was my original job out the gates when I started playing, and I took a huge liking to great axe from the start. The massive warrior swinging this huge great axe is an amazing fantasy. The reason I ended up maining thief in the 75 era rather than warrior was because I have ADHD and didn't have the patience to grind experience parties, and my sub job ended up surpassing my main job. The thing for warrior to do in experience parties back in the 2004 days was to sub thief to sneak attack sturmwind those goblin smithys and robber crabs to get hate for tanking. I loved my Leucous Voulge, but ended up not finding the time to gear it up properly until Ilvl. With the advent of Laphria that whole fantasy is back with a vengence. I love my warrior, and especially now that I have a reason to ditch the naegeling for an even stronger weapon. Laphria just feels amazing to play with.
Ranger - Just as I used to play warrior in the early days, so too did I love ranger. Especially gun ranger in the jungles back before the ranger nerfs upended everything. I have no doubt I would have played ranger at 75 in the old days if they didn't cripple the damn class into near unplayability. It's been fixed since but those were dark days. Pinaka is also hellishly fun to use, even if it does require /drg and super jump to wield reliably. I have a screenshot lying around where I scored a triple damage barrage into nearly capped damage sarv on a V25 arebati. No other dd can brag about being able to deal nearly 200k damage to a V25 NM in under 3 seconds. Well, maybe blm on ongo...
BLM - Speaking of blm, it's my favorite mage job by a mile. It's fun as hell to just blow stuff up. Not a whole lot else to say about the class that isn't self explanatory. It only does one thing, but it does it well. Well, it can enfeeble and cure stuff too I suppose. But blowing stuff up is just way more fun.
Monk - Honorable mention to the punchy class. I always did enjoy the feel and flow of combat with it. The flow between footwork, impetus, and the variety of weaponskills makes it feel different from the rest of the classes. Its unique tp effeciency and denial to mobs is a high point, and its massive hp pool is just fun to have. I'm looking forward to playing around with varga purnikawa. I only finished my most recent prime this week, so I haven't gotten a chance to play around with maru kala too much. But from the little time I've had with it I'm impressed. I look forward to playing around with it more over the coming weeks.

Tried again and it's way harder than you are theorising on paper since trusts still get cursed with Dark carol x2 and I have to cursna on BRD all the time (less time to focus DD on THF, etc.).
More than happy for you to show me otherwise on your THF, I will bring BRD.

Thief can put up some silly levels of dps with Twashtar. While Mpu gandring is the star performer for dancer., I still prefer Twashtar on thief. Empyrean aftermath coupled with thief's traits and gear makes for some jaw dropping white damage. I'd be happy to show you if you need something. I've finished gearing my main jobs by now so I spend most of my non-sortie scheduled time just helping out with other's requests. Send me a tell or message and I'm sure we can get you your drops.

I want my 2nd body finally. Since I was selling grips and rings I never really cared for the drop rate, excused it taking long to keep making money. Now that has completely dried up I just want to get the 2nd body and move on to only doing Kei. I can kill it with WAR SAM DRK (probably MNK and DRG if I wanted to) so it's not about the kill. Happy for you to have a go on THF with a trust tank to show it can be done to give me motivation though. It needs hybrid DT set for sure.

I'd be happy to show you the ropes of doing the fight on thief. And yes, a hybrid dt set is standard for bosses nowadays. I'll do it just because it's fun, and because it might help you out with a few things. I love thief and I'm happy to show off its potential if it helps inspire others to try some stuff with the job. It's definitely a lot of fun to play at high levels. Unfortunately I do have some bad news for you.

Treasure hunter does not affect omen body drops. Omen bosses have two drop slots that are guaranteed to load, and one of them is the slot the body armor loads in. You're looking at a king behemoth defending ring situation here. There are two drop slots with 100% load rate. Those are
Drop slot 1 -- 100% chance to load. 100% chance to drop a scale because that's the only item in the list
Drop slot 2 -- 100% chance to load. In kin's case there is a high chance it will be a second scale, but it could also be an Utu grip, An Ilabrat ring, OR the Dagon breastplate, because all 4 of those items are in the list for this drop slot, and you will only ever see ONE of them after a kill. And their load rates are fixed.
This is why you can NEVER load both an illabrat ring AND a Utu grip from the same kill - they occupy the same drop slot so it's either one or the other. The dagon breastplate is ALSO in that same slot, and its load rate is like 0.5% or worse, and treasure hunter can't do a damn thing to make it better.
We should still totally do the fight together sometime though. Send me a message here or poke me in game. It'll be fun.

That jaw dropping white damage is like half (1/4 probably with trusts buffs) of Ukon war and Ukon war being in high survivability gear instead of almost a glass cannon on THF :)

Yeah yeah, low buffs and stuff hurt. It's not as big a difference with good buffs, but the white damage still favors an ukon war. I can't deny that. Thief has the edge over ukon war in the weaponskill department though. Rudra's storm performs better than ukko's and upheaval, mostly because cento is kinda broken, so it kind of averages out. I'm not getting into an argument between X job versus Y job in specific scenarios any deeper than that though. We could cite examples about broken setups all day. The only point I was making was that thief is a really strong dps nowadays. Surprisingly so to those who haven't seen it played at its peak.
I will say I love my laphria though. As far as G axes go, it's the best of both worlds. While its white dps isn't quite as high as an ukon build, it still gets the triple damage proc often enough and 11k triple damage crits are fun as heck. But disaster is a crazy strong weaponskill and uniquely positioned for this WSD single hit meta we're in right now. So it has both extremely high white damage AND killer weaponskill damage. I'm sold on the thing.
Hi all, would love to hear what jobs you enjoy playing the most and why? The reasons can be anything, ranging from 'feels great to be useful in the team' to 'I like the intensity' to even just 'love the aesthetics and noises in battle'.
I'll go first and list everything I can, though I haven't geared some of them so I have no idea and am keen to know if you guys have thoughts.
MNK
Super fun just punching and kicking and dealing so much auto damage as well as multistrike.
Impetus feels great to pop, and all the abilities just push towards more hits.
The kit also makes you super defensive and gives you some counter, so feels great to walk around with usually the highest HP (unless a DRK uses absorb), and the 1hrs feel like great clutch tools for survival or quick dps.
Subtle blow, chi blast, shijin, suppresses enemies which feels nice when it works.
RDM
The idea of the closest thing to a spellblade in this game is cool. Enspells feel great, and not just the damage but with temper 2 and multihits it feels so nice to spam slashes and hear all those noises.
In bosses you can end up doing several things which feel super intense and fun, ranging from debuffing to healing. I feel like not enough people know how many tricks RDM can come up with in battle.
BLU
WAR
Actually interested in hearing how WAR high-end feels, but I imagine after reading what all the JSE offers that it's some crazy multihitting machine, getting TP insanely fast and just spamming huge chunks of WS damage?
I'm assuming WAR is the main Greataxe user; I love most of the animations, I haven't got a Chango yet but the idea of spamming upheaval makes me really happy, I wonder if it makes other WARs happy.
SAM
Skillchains are fun, and I'm assuming doing it with SAM is super fun given that the job is catered to it, but it's not geared well enough for me to have enjoyed it.
Some of the animations make me want to instantly switch to the job, my favourite is probably Gekko.
DNC
Began obsessing over it after I joined an LS friend in Ambu as a MNK and saw them take 20% off the boss with a single SC; the amount I took with my MNK after 5 separate WS.
Waltzes feel so damn fun to use, no casting, just keep hitting and feeding HP to people. I wonder if this sort of utility has room in Ody or high-end content anywhere. Erase is also super nice to use in a pinch to make people wonder where it came from.
As an inherent DW job, feels fun to use with stacked multihit and minimal required DW stat for fast animations and TPing. I find evisc spam super fun even though rudra would be more useful once someone gets a Twashtar and a good Ody set for it.
I wouldn't say steps are entirely fun, but I find it fun to see them being put to work and giving a defense down.
WHM
Haven't geared it but if I find RDM healing fun, I have a feeling I'd love this. Coming from FF14, I always found healing fun, especially in endgame. What are main healers' thoughts so far here?
COR
Bolter's roll is just too addicting, this alone makes me want to 24/7 the job, running around in town with flee speed (with lanun knife or higher ofc).
Unfortunately I don't find the job too fun besides the above, and doing rolls and seeing the chaos roll and store tp come to life.
NIN
Still need to gear, but the animations for katana are super nice, Shun, Ten and Ku especially for me.
Daken throws being used frequently is fun.
I like the idea of SCing and MABing, it's like RDM and DNC mixed in somehow with SAM. Having said that I've only seen NextGames do it, I haven't built sets to try. Curious how others feel playing NIN.
Other Jobs
I haven't played enough of the other jobs to comment. I feel like RUN and PLD could be fun but I haven't geared them.
GEO seems useful but I wonder if it's fun? Unless it's a pretty intense job with them nuking and healing by the side.
Haven't tried SMN but interested in hearing how it plays out for people, same for PUP.
I've tried a bit of DRG and found some pole animations fun, but I don't think anything else resonated with me.
I worry RNG may be boring if I found COR boring, but I may be extremely wrong.
Haven't tried BST, DRK or BLM; though I'm curious how strong BLM can nuke stuff at high-end gear. The idea of just running around one-shotting mobs appeals to me a lot.
THF is fun, though I found it a bit like a lesser DNC with its only utility being TH.
I found BRD's gameplay interesting but haven't tried it after giving up on even playing it with the REMA requirements.
SCH I tried for a while and found it fun, but a bit too intense and somewhat confusing, but this was also one of my first lv99 jobs so if people recommend giving it a go again if it's fun then I may; I've heard a lot about the nuking / solo potential.
