I came across this forum.

https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/threads/60759-New-player-I-need-help-timeout-errors-are-driving-me-crazy

The only change I made was the following, since I am running on Windows 10 still.

Quote:
in the POL network settings, I had to set the Connection check ON, which is the reverse of the default and recommended setting.

I ran Omen before I made the change and I had d/c'd four times with a bunch of R0 in between as well.

After the change, I have not hit any R0 issues running a second Omen.

I saw this the other day about a 2059
But doesn't this just tell pol to see if there is a connection before doing the first login?

I don't understand how this would have an impact later

personally, i think 90% of this thread is snake oil and there is a stability issue with the server that is causing random disconnects the last week or two

but i suppose if they make you feel like you've accomplished something, none of the suggestions are actually harmful

Someone is always having a connection issue. Perpetually. Permanently.

It just rotates who. Or where.

I went ahead and subscribed to Nord VPN last night. It solved the issue. So annoying.

You guys should switch your DNS to google's DNS servers as a pre-check before paying money for VPNs.

Go to network settings, find your adapter, advanced settings/dns settings.

Set DNS to "static" and use '8.8.8.8' and '8.8.4.4' as your DNS entries. These are Google owned DNS servers, are always up and always respond in a timely fashion.

If this resolves it then it's an issue with your provider's DNS and not a routing issue.

If it does not resolve it you have discounted DNS from being an issue.

No, adblock on chrome won't *** up your XI that's nonsense (sorrynotsorry).

That's a good suggestion as it's probably more reliable than your ISP dns

You can do your computer or your whole network via the router
Does not require advance skills to do

The VPN tunnel depending on where you pop out might get you past a issue if it's occuring between you and Japan if that's the only server

I will note you can tracert <address> the ffxi address I don't have it on hand and you can see potentially where if it's falling off I think by *

As a sider note
Things like
94.140.14.14 and 94.140.15.15 I pulled these quickly they have quite a few with different options
Are adguard dns and block ads completely which I personally recommend outside of your troubleshooting plan

I've been getting kicked off all morning. Spectrum/Charter.
Also on Spectrum, same problem. I tried logging in through a VPN, and like magic, the problem went away entirely. Given Spectrum/Charter are such a huge ISP, would be helpful to know if everyone suddenly having this problem are also on Spectrum.

I'll try logging in for a while today without VPN to see if the problem comes back.

I can assure you that my issue isn't "snake oil" and I'd be happy to provide Wireshark captures showing what's happening. It really does feel like POL servers are still offering older versions of TLS since Wireshark shows my connection was terminated due to a security problem. I can probably try to run testSSL on their servers to verify but I know my PC is using 1.2 and 1.3. I suppose it could be an ISP thing too since the only way mine works is with a VPN or if I use my hotspot from Verizon.

One thing I see is https (443) > 50301 [RST, ACK]

This seems to indicate that the remote server forcibly closed the connection, possibly due to a mismatched TLS version or something similar. I also have a few lines showing TLS v1.2 under an Application Data string showing that the connection was successful but short lived. Then I have a number of lines trying DNS lookups, which could mean a resolution error.

Google Fiber and I was getting them for a month. And I'm not selling anyone any snake oil VPNs...

I tried Google DNS, CloudFlare, Spectrum DNS, and OpenDNS. None helped.

I am on Spectrum and am having the issue. And this isn't the first time; this crept up like a month or two ago. Same thing; late night I'm suddenly plagued with R0s, 4001s, and 2059s making the game unplayable. It lasted a few days last time.

Network connection check in the POL launcher network settings?
Tried it both ways with same result unfortunately.

More than likely your GPU is entering some power saving crap and killing the background frame rate.
Are you using dgvoodoo?
Yup, set it up per the guide and consulted some smarties to ensure I did it right.

Have you checked Event Viewer on windows 11 yet?
Unfortunately since the program doesn't crash out, just goes back to character selection, it doesn't seem to log it.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
I'm about to try turning it off with my boot.

Using a VPN solves these issues.
Tried it with and without ExpressVPN, multiple protocalls, wired and wifi, several different wifi connections across the country, and one out in the Gulf of Mexico.

The issue is almost certainly on SE's side. There have been many complaints of disconnects over the last few days from people who rarely if ever have network issues, and last night FFXIV had a server go down entirely. While I can't prove it, I have a sneaking suspicion that the hardware maintenance they did last week may have broken something in their network stack.

While that may be the case, I've been having this issue longer than that, coinciding directly with when I got my new laptop.
