Shawl replaced most TP capes for me. Meva like that on near full time is a big boost. Melee neck replaced for RDM for me - best acc and macc for enspells. Also for pure Macc set for things like Sleep, neck slots in there.

Probably the best idle waist piece as well?

You're building a compelling case to support your theory that Damage type received the most prior to Primordial Surge is what determines the absorb mode of CoD. You just have to do a few dozen runs now where you exclusively do nothing but Physical WS without magical damage and see if it absorbs magic once. If not, that would be clear evidence you are correct.

No one knows with absolute certainty what causes PS to either absorb magic or physical. Your VS > VS should be doing around 70% physical, 30% magic damage. The above SS > VS > VS is doing around 45% physical, 55% magical damage.

The sample size of all this is very small, but the people doing 3step suggest its absorbing magic very/all the time, you're suggesting its a 50/50 rate. If there is a fixed formula to decide if its going to absorb magic or physical, it could be weighted to favor one side ie: physical damage must outnumber magic damage by a 2:1 ratio for it to absorb physical, or something like that. It would explain why you're getting 50/50 between physical or magic absorb, and why the 3steppers are getting magic absorb most of the time.

I already suggested that if the absorb for phys or magic is based on incurred damage, it isnt weighted at 50/50.

Just my own anecdote, I've only had it absorb magic once and I'm pretty sure that run I was slow turning my THF around and it poked it for a lot more than two attack rounds.

Adds seem resistant to anything that keeps them stationary like sleeps and binds but are you sure BRD is not standing within Encumbrance aura since others reported they at least got it to stick vs some of the adds?

You could also try /BLM sub for elemental seal or sacrafice some of the offense spells for defense ones.

We're running Sylvie/Koru/Joachim/Kupipi to try and cure through it ; o.
Do you have no better option to kupipi? his MP management is... disappointing, can see him running out of MP rather quickly and your group getting overwhelmed.

I'm fairly certain the BRD was out of the aura as they were /WHM and in the backline. As for trusts, I have access to most healers other then Ygnas and Monbri. I just through throwing as much CURE as possible to outlive the 6 voltos might buy enough time to DD it down :(.

one thing you should always consider on your mainhand weapon now is the stat dubbed, "Magic accuracy skill."

Kali there only has +201. You wanna look for a weapon that has at least +242. The Ambu pulse weapons will have +250. Many also provide flat +macc stat.

Naegling for instance is +250 macc skill and +40 macc. Which is 64 more than augmented Kali.

You might also consider that the Brioso Cuffs +2 even though they enhance Lullaby +1, that lends more to duration than it does to Macc. The Macc+ of Song+ is still undertermined afaik, so you might consider swaping in hands with more raw MACC. If can get the Inyanga Dastanas +2 or the Fili Manchettes +2 those have roughly/exactly the same CHR for Song Macc in addition to +20ish Singing and Instrument skill for 40 more Macc. and more raw Macc on them too. Chiefly the Fili +2 has a lot more raw Macc, the same CHR value, and then the +34 macc from +skill.

Ah k... I'll try using Naegling instead. As for the macc set, I thought the Brioso+2 full set would be pretty good because t he of the set bonus : o. Would it be better to swap the hands out for Inyanga then?

Edit: We've been having to kill all 6 voltos and our clear time is around 20m on E.. quite painful

I'm fairly certain it's random.

My group does it with 2x RNG and 1 cor shooting with Trueflight and the cor doing wildfire, and we get about 70/30 Physical/Magical absorb when it even survives long enough.

None of this looks overly terrible. Everyone starts somewhere and its good for what it seems you have available to you.

You should be able to easily get a moonshade earring to replace crep. ear for WS though.
Also why Sulev Gloves for WS?

Hmmm... I think other then the PDL on Sakpata I figured maybe the little bit of extra acc and attack would be better since I didn't think I was hitting any damage limit yet. I just need to go get the earring actually lol ><, and I just got enough for a thrud, too

Outta curiosity, are you pulling CoD away from the trusts after engaging?

Also, I dont know if its been mentioned here, but Primordial Surge has an absorb-buff effect. Its not listed on Wiki, but it might be eating 6 different buffs from you and your trusts.

Most of the time I think I'm far enough back but I do notice she get loaded with buffs. One thing the BRD can land is Finale, almost 100% of the time as well.

I'm not so sure about all this, personally. I have put these items in a number of sets, just disagree slightly on some of this reasoning...

I found it was very difficult to cap DT while using null shawl, since I previously relied heavily on the DT from ambu capes to cap it. Additionally, many of my jobs use DW from ambu capes which is again quite tricky to replace elsewhere, especially when combined with capping DT. Finally, some capes have valuable TP stats on them (WAR, THF, MNK, DRG [jumps], RNG & COR [shots]). I ultimately ended up changing 5 capes total out of ~20 jobs?

Phoenix.Michelob said: »

Depends heavily on the target IMO, I think most targets won't resist your enspells at all so it's better to have a more useful stat like STP or MA on this slot. This changes for things like Ongo V25 where he has high meva and you can't WS him, but...for most trash I think it's a pretty terrible neck for RDM, especially for enspells.

Phoenix.Michelob said: »
Also for pure Macc set for things like Sleep, neck slots in there.

Again I think this one is highly contextual...Compared to JSE neck you're dropping 25% duration on your debuff to gain 0~20 macc. I don't think I swapped the null neck in for any RDM debuff sets, though I did put it on a bunch of other mage jobs.

Phoenix.Michelob said: »

Again, context matters. Sometimes you need resist from waist and sometimes the platinum moogle belt is more valuable to cap DT or increase your HP in the idle set. This is especially true for tanks IMO. I have put null shawl in some idle sets, but not too many because of these factors.

Overall, it's nice gear and I made a lot of swaps when I got it, but I think there's a lot more nuance to it.

Set bonus is +60 with all 5 pieces right? but you don't lose the entire set bonus. You get set bonuses in FFXI varying by set with 2 or more pieces of the set equipped. In this case, your set bonus will dorp down from +60 to +45

I'd still switch to Inyanga or Fili hands if possible, though the gap is smaller than I initially considered cause my brain didn't even register set bonus.

Null is still very good for MNK. Im getting break even between Segomo's and Null for dps, but I like MEVA over PDT more, because MNK TP sets are generally missing MEVA and MNK has enough HP to run around with uncapped PDT in most content.

Those gears are niche in my opinion, useless on RDM, no one has accuracy issues (at least the folks i usually play with), maybe I should revisit my enfeebling set on WHM and THF, but that’s about it. They are awesome pieces for solo people, people that didn’t go thru odyssey, players that can’t do a lot of ambu… for those folks they are amazing pieces. But yeah, won’t rewrite many sets….

I would love to see some data on this. At first blush I figured that the kick attacks and 3% more DA would outweigh adding 7 STP but if it is close I would consider switching as well.

Null shawl slid nicely into my WAR meva set. Sure I don't use it 100% of the time but when I want it, its there and sits at 95% DA,49%DT, a boatload of meva and subtle blow.

I also like it on NIN, I don't generally find the lack of PDT an issue as shadows take care of that generally. In that regard I gain a lot of beneficial stats for NIN especially the meva/racc for daken.

I haven't really played many other jobs recently enough to tell whether I like it, but those two jobs so far seem to benefit a lot from it either situationally or most often, but I also don't use sim.

Slid into all my break sets, ageha, retsu, shockwave, ninja lolenfeebles, evasion sets. I'm sure when I mess around on some other jobs I'll find some other uses or times I like it.

Oh and my SCH Impact set was adjusted with these pieces. That was a boost.

They are not niche at all. Back piece is clearly bis TP piece for lots of jobs while being the highest meva/Eva/acc as well, bis macc for anything without macc based on int or mnd too.

Belt and neck are more situational, because they are trade off for TP set, but they are still bis for many acc/macc/eva/meva related things.

I did 5 more kills. (still no Mask)

Had 2 Physical Absorbs. First was on Lights day did my normal Ageha > Mumei x3. I instantly noticed my SC damage was low and sure enough she absorbed physical damage.

I went again during Lights day. Did Ageha first. Then a light SC: Fudo > Kasha > Shoha > Fudo. SC damage was much higher than physical and she still absorbed physical.

The 3 after that were all Earth's day. Ageha > Mumei x3. All Absorbed magical like my previous experiences.

Depends on subjob, it's basically between 1 and 1.5% dps behind DA Segomo in scenario with samurai roll and footwork off. It's break even for footwork on with AF+3 feet. (I usually check for Footwork on, because I check for Sortie boss zerg)
