Controller Vs. Keyboard, LFG...

Idk about others, but my controller is right in front of keyboard and can reach both. Sometimes one hand is on controller, one hand on keyboard.
But it seems this is devolving into another third party software debate so good luck with that.
Oh and there's the guy saying if you use controller your room will suddenly implode or something.
Yeah so before we keep making this thread dumber, is anyone in need of understanding how to get better at either Keyboard or Controller? Plenty of people are willing to share, seemingly fewer people are willing to ask because they don't want to be embarrassed by the trolls that lurk here.
--
This is a numbers game, both in that it rewards people who understand math above a basic level and also because populations matter now that they have shrunk significantly. Being divisive about devices (intentional word play, enjoy) is a good way to shrink the community of competent players instead of grow the number of competent players that are already playing. If you want to simulate that for yourself, throw away all your LSs and quit all statics you have built the contain a player that doesn't use a keyboard if you are hardline on keyboard supremacy and the same if you think that anyone not using a controller is bad. Those people are idiots and you're so good at the game and so right about your stance on inputs that people will probably seek you out because you're so cool. Hur hur.
There really isn't a benefit to creating additional stigma around how players are playing so long as they are enjoying themselves and not playing like trash so you can enjoy playing with them.

All Im hearing is how superior controller players are to the kb plebs
keyboarders seem to be dual boxers which in turn mean they using react and other 3rd party tools which means they are stinky cheaters who have no friends (except firedemon because I wear his panties <3 on my controller dnc )

A few months ago, I had a run where I went with a group to Kalunga V25 a number of times where we failed miserably. Mainly because our paladin was blowing up. Over the course of 3 runs, we're talking to the pld about how he/she can't use Souveran gear in this fight because it's too squishy. Was taking 800 damage a hit from fetters.
Over the course of 3 fights, the pld swapped 1 souveran piece out per run, and we just kept dying.
Now I know we were asking the wrong questions. Shoulda been asking that ***pld if he was using keyboard.
Keyboard vs. Controller doesn't matter in this game. This isn't XIV, where all abilities have to go off at the exact millisecond to keep your DPS up. I've played WHM at a high level for many years using a controller and it works for me, and I've received compliments for it. I've seen keyboard users struggle with their precious cures because F-key targetting mishandles blinking players. Each medium has it's struggles, but neither is so critical that the other is "bad"
I can honestly tell you I know very few details about whether the people I play with regularly use keyboard or controller, and it doesn't matter to me. Good players will be good on whatever they play on. Bad players will still be bad on whatever they play on.
Personally, I have short stubby fingers and not a lot of dexterity. Keyboard is and always has been very uncomfortable to use on every game. It doesn't matter that keyboard may or may not be better overall, the fact that I'm not dextrous enough to realize that will always hold me back.

So a person who is not well organized and doesn't think ahead. Who is in group that didn't properly go over the strategy of a fight.
Almost like you didn't bother reading...
On the fly means it wasn't something that was planned for, that's been known to happen.

Its all preference. Even FFXIV. I prefer to sit back and use a controller 99% of the time.

Almost like you are describing a situation that doesn't exist anymore. Where is this unknown and new content that isn't thoroughly discussed in detail? If you're going into v25/aminon and you don't have a plan that was discussed ahead of time...maybe the keyboard and controller aren't the problem.
Again not well organized, doesn't think ahead. Adding, likes to call audibles in known events, possibly doesn't value the intelligence of people he plays with.
Any other things you'd like to admit?

Yeah in the imaginary world of excel spreadsheets everything is perfect. While in the real world random stuff happens at random times.

More suspected expectations from some people in this thread:
RDMs using controller be like “sorry brah i couldnt cast cure on you because I didnt have your name set in my macrolist carry elixirs next time”
Controller whms when someone gets pro or shell dispelled: “good luck, i only have protectra macroed, youre on your own”
Controller Daur Bards when someone loses a song: “cant help you bud, i only have specific dummy songs that use Daur. You want me to Pianissimo the song onto you specifically for the 4th song buff? Lol i dont have that macroed”.

Nynja’s up in here like he didn’t use a keyboard to type his essays. A real G would have used his controller with the on-screen KB thing to defend what means most to them.

I personally use this setup—an Elite controller with a chatpad—90% of the time.
I can play all my jobs with either this controller or a full-size keyboard. If I play on the keyboard, I use the numpad to move around so I actually need a full size 100% keyboard. If I'm on the go and traveling around I'd rather bring my controller than have to bother with a massive keyboard, or a half keyboard on a laptop.
Jobs I play with this controller:
BST, RNG, COR, NIN, MNK, DRG, THF, PUP, SMN, PLD, BRD, BLM, DNC, GEO.
I've always mainly used the controller because back in the day (before Windower and addons), the macro bars would show up faster when using a controller. There was a delay when pressing Ctrl or Alt on a keyboard, and the macro bar would take a second to show up, so using a controller was actually better back then.
I also use software called reWASD to customize every button on the controller and the chatpad to have access to everything I need for each job. My .luas are all heavily customized toward using those controller keybinds.
I have several layers on the controller to swap profiles depending on certain jobs—one layer for Pet jobs, one layer for DD jobs, one layer for ranged jobs, and a fourth for mage jobs.
When using my controller, my hands are usually resting on a wrist rest in front of my keyboard, so I am often typing or using the keyboard as well as moving the character with the controller.
To be very honest, the main thing I wouldn't give up is moving the character and the camera with thumbsticks rather than the numpad and arrow keys.
Also being used to playing with a controller just makes using this thing a lot easier if I need to really travel light:

for a normal person, I can see them scrambling
but not me... 20 years of gripping the controller have evolved me in a menu god - I quickly dash thru the menus with lightning speed and a fast react time you would think only obtained by some third-party hack but no it's just my damn Jason borne like ffxi controller player skills - even if the controller falls from my hands my feet quickly react in a manner fitting of a chimp at the zoo to ensure 1 to 1 latency with the menu.

Yeah I only type on the chat pad when I really have no other choice, I use the main keyboard to chat.
The controller chatpad is there to create extra easy access buttons and macros that I customize with reWASD.

Controller player:
You have to take your hands off your character controls to type something
Also controller player:
Controller with a keyboard, they have to take their hands off their character controls to type something
Are you 1-finger typing while holding both joysticks with other fingers?

Actually holding the controller with my left hand I can access both the movement stick and the camera stick with my thumb, and when I have to type I toggle autorun by clicking the left stick and my thumb moves to the right camera stick. While my right hand is typing on the keyboard.
I know it’s laughable.
I’m pretty sure you think it’s torture and you have a better way of doing things, but end of the day that’s how I enjoy playing.
I think for most of us here, we started playing this game as kids/teens, after 20+ years it’s just muscle memory now. Back then we’d make things work with what we had around and it just became a habit.

The thing with controllers is that everything needs preprogrammed ahead of time. So far every controller player I've known has struggled to do on-the-fly actions mid battle.
This mirrors my experience too. You ask a controller player to use a command or ability they don't already have reachable via controller buttons ... and they struggle.
Let's take addons out of it for a moment; this also the case for a kb player who doesn't have anything macro'd as well.

If you're auto-running then...keyboard has 2 free hands to type the whole time...I just make minor adjustments with 4 / 6 when needed, but otherwise it handles itself.
Bonus: Full-sized keys for adult fingers, not baby keys for infant-sized fingers.
Obviously nobody's going to convince each other to change and I don't think that's the point of the thread, I just think it's funny that the way controller overcomes its massive limitations is by adding a keyboard to their controller.
Those of you who are physically incapable of using a keyboard: what about one of those little single-handed things, like this:

Not too hard to /ma "raise ii" <p1> on a keyboard. Takes a few seconds. I do stuff like /equipset 26, cast spell from menu, /equipset 28 all the time. On mages I do things like /equip main Hvergelmir or /equipset 56 before casting these spells, to make them fast.
Other examples: Reraise IV is on cooldown. How do you quickly cast Reraise III, without addons? For a KB, it's /equipset 56 -> /ma "reraise iii" <me> (or ctrl + m, find the spell, click it). For controller it's....grab a keyboard?

It's almost like people are capable of adapting to what they are comfortable with.
Edit:
Hilariously I have lost count of how many times a LS member's controller died and they auto ran into certain doom..
Or they just got beat down until they died causing a wipe lmao.

In this example, of a vanilla player with ONLY a controller, it would be a bit slower for sure. FC gear set macro, then menu cast RR3. If you're good at navigating the spell menus, you can go through them pretty fast with left/right for page up page down to select. The hard part is you can't stay in the spell menu AND hit macros at the same time. If you could, it would improve this terrible situation by a lot.
But at this point we're talking about how horrible we can make the situation. Anyone who plays vanilla that doesn't prep for these situations is going to have a bad time.
Let's discuss:
1.) Do controller players make terrible DNCs?
2.) All things equal: Is any job at a slight (real or just perceived) disadvantage by using a controller vs a keyboard?
When comparing, let's assume the same level of modifications in both controller and keyboard situation, i.e. LUAs, macros, controller programs, etc. Please state those modifications are.
Of course, if you have a strong opinion, in your Controller or Keyboard play-style, please explain why.
