The NMs are always up from the start but they can wander through locked doors and out of their own areas.
I believe every "minor" NM has a range. The obdella wanders into the 'D' side through doors for example.

Has anyone received an Old Case from a "Chest"? I received one from a "Casket" but neither are listed on BG as providing old cases. Only Coffers, which I can verify is not the only source.

Our group had the same thing happen last night with Leshonn. Farned shard and metal B, went up and no boss. Killed Ghatjot before this and went and killed Skomora after, we did not send anyone back up there later to see if it ever popped.

I went in as RNG yesterday and tried elementals kills with true flight, did 10 elementals, no chests drops, I moved to umbrils and got chests after x3 kills, and then another 3 kills {6 umbril kills only}, the only thing that changed was the mob, both were true flight spam, rng only doing dmg/actions

Now that I think about it, I want to say when we did get an Old Case +1, it was from /hurray at Device B which is a chest. I'll ask some LS mates later to confirm.

I was satisfied with the earring.

So there seems to be a lot of question about Casket #B1. Today, the update to the bgwiki page says the method is confirmed to be "7 Total 15K+ Kill shots on Biune foes (no SC), Any damage type counts."

I'm posting the relevant bits of my log file from last night. I went with a PUP and split off from the rest of the group working on A objectives and teleported to the B portal, doing a quick /hurray for 1/7 on B ojectives before heading northeast to the fire elementals.

The chest that spawned was definitely Casket #B1, a blue chest (evidenced by the lack of a shard or metal drop in the log). Not only did it NOT take 7 mobs to spawn, but all 4 of them were killed with a 3-step skillchain with the killing blow being skillchain damage. This contradicts almost every aspect of the "confirmed" method listed on bgwiki. Interestingly, Casket #B1 spawned BEFORE Chest #B3/#B4

I'd say this one is far from solved.

Edit: I double-checked the logs, we got Chest #B3 (shard) from a leaden kill (no SC) on a fire elemental. We ended up clearing out the fire elementals before Chest #B4 popped, so we headed to the earth/darkness elemental camp. Got Chest #B4 to pop from an Earth elemental from a darkness skillchain.

I reverted that. We got it on our 5th mob, so 7 is not the possible number, we also have other teams logs showing both 3rd & 4th kill dropping Casket B1.

I find it interesting you did 2 step skillchains. Our COR just spammed leaden, our RUN & I (RDM) did 2~4step skillcahins. Wonder if it's 2step skillchains that force the blue chest.
{now part of today's tests}

have to try again tomorrow. scuffed run where I had to quickly run off on my own to kill NMs because we spent 40 minutes in D for no GD reason. not happy about it.

No, this makes sense. A Darkness skillchain contains Darkness, Water, Ice, and Stone damage within it. This is why darkness skillchains work to proc some mobs in other content that need a lvl 2, and why W3 bosses will be cured from darkness skillchains if you leave some of the other agons alive.

So your darkness skillchain is still technically killing the fire elemental with 'some' water damage.

edit: for B3 anyway. B4 could be different.

That wasn't the case for B3, though. As I stated, B3 was killed with Leaden damage (dark damage, not darkness skillchain damage), specifically. B4 was a kill from skillchain damage on a earth elemental. Posting the relevant bits from the log for those 2 chests, as well:

lol there is no conditions as far as i can tell for b3-4 its just kill x5 for 3 than anther 5 for 4

Have never seen b3 before kill #5. Only read that said some chest/coffer/casket dropped after kill #3.

We've killed w/ only magic before in B and didn't see chest B3 or 4.

Blue chests are "Caskets". "Chests" in Sortie are brown.

By the way I can provide some context for Acuexes from the discussion on previous page. I have gotten both the Shard and Metal for A by having SCH do Fusion and kill each of 6 Acuexes in 2 nukes each. So there's definitely not a requirement for some number of non-killing nukes, unless that number is 1. It's still quite possible that there's a threshold on per-nuke or total magic damage, but I'm very skeptical of per-nuke since we've also had a newer BLU chip them down <10k at a time and still got both items in 6 kills.

I think it specifically has to be elemental ws killshots, were some of the last hits auto attacks?

No, I was using malevolence mh, and KC sub vs elementals... I was doing like 20 dmg with dagger and 1-4 with KC for TP, only haste buffs on lol

FYI Today Ghatjot did this to us. We had both key and plate, entered and the NM was not present. Exit, return nothing. It simply was not there, kinda frustrating.
