1) Anyone have a better setup than fly lure to catch hoptoads? I have 110 fishing, Ebisu +1 and Lu+1. Tried both rods a couple dozen times each with fly lures (as noted on wiki page), and a handful of shrimp lure casts too. Reisenjima rivers (mostly the eastern one between #5 and #6, but a few tries in the western part of the zone too). Haven't had a single catch yet. Is it just this low of a rate for everyone, or maybe a better bait/location?
Just grabbed some various other bait now from the guild (meatball, insect paste, little worms, worm lure, sabiki rig) to see if anything else does better...
2) For Eastern Ginger, couple tips for easier ways to get them than hoping for gold boxes in Reisenjima:
a) If you have any Chocobucks (check Currencies 1 menu), can buy them for 3 bucks each.
b) Bhalflau Thickets harvesting is a pretty good rate. I got my 2 there, took only 3 harvesting points and a dozen or so harvesting attempts.
For eastern ginger I just planted three arborscent seeds in the furrows and got 2 gingers out of them.
For the frogs I went to the bridge by the second warp point. It took me 4 casts. I got a monster on the first try, so I put on the noddy ring, and then the next 3 casts were the frogs.
The drop rate of the scales in Omen is actually decent if you use THF.
----
Everytime a scale dropped I took a screenshot and posted on twitter if anyone wants to confirm it(forgot to take one scale drop on the second run) twitter post link
From talking with others here on AH who spam Omen for Destritus, we've assumed Destritus is ~10% base drop rate. Using this small sample size, it's looking like the chance for a scale could be around ~5% and it looks like you get a random one from the set of them (unless they really bothered assigning specific scales to specific groups - seems doubtful).
Not too terrible, considering the majority of people doing Omen now are just farming Destritus. Newcomers/returners can do the same or make PUG groups, then set seacoms for a specific scale or just free-for-all. At least it's an option for folks who don't have the means to spam bosses.
If the apex mobs are right at the entrance to promyvion holla that's kind of a middle finger to any lowbie players trying to do the CoP storyline missions. It's bad enough when you encounter Ilvl goblins in dangruf wadi unexpectedly, but throwing truesight aggro Ilvl 140 mobs in that dense of a cluster at the entrance to a mandatory storyline zone is just gonna cause newer players grief. I'd hope they move them out of the way a bit in a future patch.
This is the second time they've introduced higher level mobs to Promys. At least with the level 80 cap increase, most of them were in the middle of areas/corridors...
I have no issues with them if they're out of the way. But appaently the ones at holla are literally right by the zonein in a large enough pack that you cant get past em easily. That's an issue if you ask me. At least in Dem they're on floor 3 and 4, and off to the side enough that there is still a clean path to the spire if you have the map and know how to navigate the zone. They're Ilvl 140, truesight, and agressive. Newbie players shouldn't have to try and dodge that in a zone originally built for level 30 players when they're doing mandatory storyline content.
Nice to see they are still taking care of the PS2 players that had broken disc drives and couldn't/wouldn't install anything passed CoP.
Isn't it all PC now though? Is your install on PC still tied to whatever you had unlocked when you were on PS2? Jesus. Going out of their way to keep those old JP sticks-in-the-mud that would never pay for upgrading passed CoP on their SquareEnix account, if so.
(This goes back to my understanding that at the point of abyssea's initial release, they had added higher level monsters to Promyvion zones for the explicit reason that there were PS2 players with broken disc drives or people that would never buy new expansions and needed somewhere to exp after level cap was raised 76+).
Those players take "classic LV75 server" to the extreme if so.
Edit/clarification: I was under the understanding that it was more of a Japanese issue than any other language client. Something about how most FFXI JP players (or many/enough) would only play on PS2 are were real hold-outs about "CoP era and nothing else exists passed it". Hell, I guess even if it were just a single player that wouldn't upgrade, then they would have to make camps for them. I would think the numbers like this are very low, but then again... what happens on backwater servers stays on backwater servers.
All console support was dropped years ago, like before abyssea release. Unless you're being sarcastic then NVM. Anywho, more apex camps, and a reason to keep the XP grind going is good things all around.

Quit being a newb, and cast RR on all dungeon runs, always have RR, it's cheap.
Final Fantasy XI, the final expansion. Main99/Sub99, midgrade content, endgame bosses that will take years to figure out how to kill. 20 more years of subscriptions as they dwindle down to 1 server, dedicated forever. Or until SE finally dies.
I dont know if anyone has posted this yet, but the apex emptys Mirage move it at least +150 evasion and last 3 mins but can be stolen(as a blu at least) also I swear the apex crawlers hit twice as hard as they do >.>
i dint take numbers on there def boost but i think it was stronger than cocoon, good thing is it seems blus def downs will stop the def up effect
Yeah, Mirage is an extremely high amount of evasion buff. I'm planning to find out just how much it is when i get around to exping on my thf. I'll check with aura steal one of these days if nobody else has first. I'm curious.

I remamber jump from 75 to 80 and ppl saying promies exp was better than abyssea before i found out how it worked i farmed there lost 4 days of my life.
Yeah, people tried to make a lot of random new camps work and laid into them until the community learned how to appropriately EXP in Abyssea. Misareaux birds were pretty decent.
So..... Easing requirements for +2+3 JSEs, and all this buff stuff hints at 2 things.
1 is a new expansion. 2 a system to fuse all three of the major sets into one badass ultra set. +10 inventory per job you are truly mastering, is a perk. Probably pretty extensive and time consuming, not counting how expensive and time consuming it already is to max 5/5+3 artifact and relics as is, and what ever hoops to +3 empy will be as well. All culminating in a final step to fuse all 15 items, down to the last final fantasy ultimate 5/5 set that has all the bonuses rolled into one. If it came with a brand new look per set to lock style also, I doubt people would complain.
A true (end all) full time set. Whilst still having the rest of the slots ring/ear/neck/back slots getting the bulk of future gear swapping focus.
Speculation, but fun speculation, maybe do the same for REMAs also.
well it is at least 150, its just a few times it was a slight bit more not sure if it was maybe something with my gear i dint notice or something to do with the amount of tp they used it with
Yes, 2016 was when they shut down PS2 and Xbox 360 servers, although FFXI still requires PS2 devkits to do any major updates, it's still a PS2 game ported to the PC.
That's why we have limits on what they can add, I think we'd all love to see a new expansion, not sure if they can squeeze many more new maps out though (It's why we keep seeing old maps reused).
With master points being slowly released and updated, they've found a way to keep everyone busy until the 20th anniversary and whatever they have planned.
Unfortunately the PS2 devkit does still have an impact on FFXI today, the devs do what they can, but old limitations still exist, it's why we see new NPC's placed in strange areas, or it's a minor miracle if we get a new trust squeezed out.
You are right to say a lack of resources and budget though, if we had these we could move away from the current limitations, imagine FFXI, a realm reborn....
Who knows, maybe SE have been squirreling away extra money for the 20th anniversary, we could see something really special, we can dream at least :)
