Genuinely shocked they went through with the lockdowns. Queues are completely back to normal now that anyone who cares about Vanabout is done. Agreed that basing it on instanced events is dumb as hell. Especially the take damage objective that promoted people afking in zone.

Blaming it on legion bots is short sighted. Im not spergy enough to watch them, but I assume they've been here for ages and no one cared till this Vanabout came around. Ive sure never noticed them as a queue issue until this week.


I expect the server to be locked for 6+ months because, as usual, SE doesn't actually pay attention to the game.

If anything, this is going to have a detrimental effect on the economy. Like it or not, everything is built around RMT these days. Asura is likely to have an insane supply issue and massive gil inflation.

Going to be an interesting few weeks.

It takes me about 20 minutes to clear the 5 daily objectives related to ambuscade for 5 toons on difficult intense. I feel obligated to clog the queue. Sorry.

Legion botting has been a thing for at least 3 years

Anyone thinking that The Wall is a knee-jerk reaction to Ambu queues being too long, has not paid any attention to how FFXI has been managed for the past 5 years (or more).

This has been coming a long time, SE has been communicating about the congestion on Asura for years. It's just the most recent action they took. Vanabout issue are probably not a coincidence, but they're far from being the sole reason.

Look at old-school ??? Force spawns. Do you really want to be fighting for one of the three pop locations from the whole server for that month?

Asura congestion has always been obvious in many zones. Packet dropping happens all the time in all sorts of random places.

Literally just walking into Domain runs often causes all sorts of weird glitching to occur.

Dyna D has tendencies to glitch out hard.

Afaik these aren't issues ppl experience on the less congested servers, or at least, not as bad as Astra does.

100% they are using this as a cash cow. If not they would have allowed free transfer from Asura and now Bahamut.

They give price before you select destination, so offering free transfer would likely require overhauling the interface. There's some middle ground in between "Locking servers to force you to pay" and "Doing extra work to save you money at our own expense". They still make plenty off of people who buy gil on Asura(now Bahamut too) to get AH items and transfer to their own server.

They have to close the server whether or not they offer free transfers, so it's not a matter of one vs the other. Changing UI and billing may be difficult since it's probably already got regional variances and handled by another team.

And, again, even if they aren't closing the servers to extract money that doesn't mean they want to give up the transfer money they're currently making. One free transfer per asura/baha character is tens of thousands lost. They'd also have to add other safeguards like once per account, otherwise people could just make mules on asura and transfer out all they want for free to move items around.

Except the JP are going to mass report the RMT and they will actually get banned lol.

I don't think Asura will ever open again to free creation, its population is far too high and even at half what it is now it's still too high comparatively. If people complain enough they may add a proper RaF system, if you have a very long standing account but I wouldn't even bet on that either.
