I do understand where you are coming from. I have been in linkshells that were as you described so I do know it can be frustrating. That is one reason why I have chosen not to them at this time and just do what I want to do, salvage seven days a week. Salvage is fun for me and I do enjoy it. I do understand this is not for everyone.

We do all need to remember, this is a game and supposed to be fun. If it is not fun..there is no point! I do this for entertainment!

I would say it's fairly obvious from this thread that a large percentage of people spend more time in front of their computers playing FFXI than they devote to their real life. 100 minutes per day for Salvage, 3+ hours for Dynamis, 2 hours for Sky, maybe 2 hours for Limbus, not to mention Sea, Assault, Nyzul Isle, Einherjar, CoP, ToAU, ZM, WoTG, Missions, Quests and the new adds all equal a HUGE chunk of time spent NOT getting an education, NOT going to work, NOT taking care of family etc. "Only missed a couple of runs because I stupidly let rl get in the way"? (Or words to that effect). That sums it up for me. The majority of players can quote stats for the game and gear at you until the cows come home, but most can't put an intelligent sentence together with proper spelling and punctuation, AND many can't even hold a conversation without every other word being a cuss word or tell you what has been going on in the real world in the last 24 hours.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. FFXI accomplishments don't qualify to go on your resume. It's a game, and will disappear from your life soon enough. Enjoy it as it is meant to be enjoyed, have fun with it. :)

I will agree with you that most people who put 18-20 hours a day into this game are in this situation. However, I do not like how you mis-paraphrased my quote, and changed the entire meaning. I stated that I missed a few runs due to me being stupid with irl things. That is completely different from what you stated. So what if people choose to play a game?

I find school to be boring, do I still attend it? Of course, but when you excel at it, you need something to keep your mind. So then you say work, well, some of us worked hard in school, while maintaining a healthy bit of leisure time in this game, and managed to pull off massive scholarships or even full rides to colleges to further our education.

I'd love to dissect your paragraph even further, but it makes no difference. Some people can afford to spend time in this game, enjoying themselves, and it doesn't always take a toll on their real life. All I ask is that when you quote, please make sure not only that you get the words correct, but that you understand the meaning behind the words that are said. Also, be very weary of generalizations, this is a very diverse game, even in it's dwindling time period, but it still holds many different people, so your description, no matter how broad, will likely only affect a few of the thousands of players who still play.

Or has to get up early and can't stay up that late every night of the week. :P Staying up til 1:30am EST or later and getting up at 5-6am the next day just doesn't work for most people. Most people need 6+ hours of sleep, not ~4-5.

There is nothing wrong with doing salvage. you get home from work school ec, college and go online during 8pm-12 am est then log off. This is enough time to join their static and do salvage.

There is nothing wrong with 7 day a week salvage.

It does not constitute to not having a life either. I have a life and do end game. You can't say no one here is not getting an education or has no life. You do not know about living conditions, and circumstances that make people able to play the way they do. everything has a reason and a purpose.

ive met and ptd with both noob and aka, they are both nice players and i have no problem with them at all. in fact im currently pting with noob. carby however does have a large ammout of jp only night people so it is difficult here to make a late night salvage. im interested in a group tho
