2020's GDQs, Speedruns, Charity Stuff Etc.

Am I being far too cynical to say these people are only doing this for PR coverage (that helps them far more than the money they would make in a day), and most of the money they raise will never actually even goto helping people anyway and will go on "expenses" and "wages" for the charity org and other things.

I think I am.

A little bit. A lot of things are done for clout and everyone involved gets traffic. So yeah nothing is 100% altruistic.

The thing of it is Mr. Beast can just give St. Jude a million dollars, and make that million back with the film. But it's an experience for viewers as well as a charity event. (same reasons why you suspend logic for movies, yeah this could happen but then there wouldn't be a movie)

This is true of any charitable venture. There are plenty of reasons to be critical of private charity as an alternative to public funding, but this is the world we live in for the moment, so those organizing it, provided the money actually goes where they say it's going to go (and there's no reason to think it won't), deserve whatever positive coverage they get given the alternative is it not happening at all.
