Who said anything about standing around waiting for 30 seconds to get extra buffs?
It takes some amount of time longer to apply rolls than it would if you went without. My opinion is that the time you save isn't much more than the time taken applying the buffs.
Then don't sit there waiting for buffs at the start? Just send the puppet in ASAP, you're still going to be standing around for a couple minutes out of range anyway. Perfect time for a COR who is also just standing around to toss some rolls on you. Maybe I'm not as optimized as could be, since I usually wait on the initial Beast Roll then run in, and get Companion's after I have the puppet set up and I'm just hanging back.
I get that you are awesome and all, and you don't need no stinking Phantom Rolls. As someone who is also awesome, I don't need no stinking Phantom Rolls either. But like... it's not that controversial to think that Beast Roll is better than no Beast Roll? And some people might not be as awesome as the two of us (they'll get there) and actually NEED the roll to kill the thing in their Overdrive. I find it better to talk about the options for people who may need them more than we do.
I mean, you already want as many actual players as you can get, even if solely for the additional Gallantry. Anything beyond the one PUP is not strictly necessary, but if bringing more players is better for points, why not have one who can come with the best buff in the game for your pet, in a pet-focused fight? If no RDM with me, I actually like COR/WHM to give both rolls AND Dia III (II+light shot). I think most people accept that things like buffs and Dia are a positive - even if they are not a requirement to win. It feels like you're actively arguing against things that make sense to use, for no reason other than to prove you don't need them.
