How are terp and twash holding up now that Mpu gandring is around? Been a hot minute since I’ve last played and trying to help my dnc friend figure out if they should finish their twashtar or not.
Twash is still good but prime is very good and gives light option for dnc. Even aeonic is good enough for most things dnc just depends how serious of a dnc you are.
That said prime is my fav weapon on DNC but prime grind isn't for everyone.

What / if any reasons are people using the Su5 dagger for Aminon? Just better step management?

Edit: Ahlen answered this pretty well about switching in and out of this dagger for climactic.

I know DNC isn't a popular segment farm job but for those who have done it have you found more success with MNK or WAR sub?

Hi, working on mastering DNC, and have been living off Kaja Knife for now with malignance gear mostly.

I enjoy leveling and playing around with jobs for solo w/ trust content and seeing how far I can push myself without a party.

What would you say are the pros/cons of a DNC against other jobs like RDM or (well I use MNK a lot for soloing too).

Atm I have BLU at ML5, MNK at ML15 and RDM at ML10, and aiming to have DNC join the club of jobs I like to play, though can't see right now how it's any more useful than a RDM for example that can also use malignance, Nyame, but has spells, self haste 2, and I'd think more utility overall. The factor making me focus on DNC atm is just the 'fun' factor and aesthetics since it's very busy, and I love SCs.

What would DNC be better at over the other hybrid jobs or DDs?

Dealing very large quantity of damage over a short amount of time (under 1 min).
This is done by preparing before engaging the target and having all the necessary cooldown and resources ready, prepared in advance.

This allow DNC to reach incredibly high burst of damage, supposing the target isn't strong against Piercing damage (or the SC damage, which for DNC can be very various but tipically will be Lv3 Darkness damage).

I guess this is probably the key difference I'd mention compared to the other jobs you mentioned, imagining average gear for all and a low amount of specific gearsets.

My previous post might give the (wrong?) idea that DNC is always much faster than any other DD in every circumstance etc.

That's not the case so allow me to further elaborate. In general DNC is imho characterized by the ability to deal large quantity of damage over a very very short amount of time, this is what I said before and I stand by it.

But, let me emphasize this, you need to "prepare" for it. It's not like you can do it every time you engage a target without doing nothing in advance.
I'm not just talking about the obvious storing 3k TP before engaging, but you also need a DNC exclusive resource called "Finishing Moves".
You can store them engaging random stuff before the "serious" target, or you can store them on the target itself before starting the "real" cycle of damage.
Regardless of the method, you need these things as a "requirement", so to say.

Once you have these requirements and the cooldowns ready, then DNC can perform a series of JA in a specific combination/order/synergy and this brings you to the result of an incredibly high amount of damage over a short time.

This means two things to me, mosty:
1) It's a slightly different style compared to the usual style of most physical melee
2) It potentially allows you to kill some targets very very fast from the moment you engage, hence minimizing possible dangers which may occur if you let the fight continue more than a certain amount of time, as you "normally" would with many other DDs.

So my understanding of jumps is that they consumed Climactic charges. I really just needed to confirm this for myself so I grabbed a tiger at the Kamihr HP and did the following:

1. Box step for 2 finishing moves.
2. Desperate flourish to go back down to 1 finishing move.
3. Climactic flourish
4. Jump
5. High jump

I was finding that the climactic charge never wore off after the first jump and always wore off after the second jump. I tried adding double madrigal and distract to the mix and tried changing the order of jump/high jump but was getting the same results.

Is my testing flawed, or is my understanding of how climactic flourish and jump interact wrong?

Did you have the Empy head swap in when you activated CF? That will give you +1 charges for 2 total and be consistent with your results. From my experience both jump and high jump will consume 1 climactic charge upon use. I can not say for certain regarding super jump though.

Climactic force a crit on first hit of the round or first hit on jump or first hit on WS. Basically anything that can be forced a crit. It takes one charge on each of that proc and has max of 6 charges with 5 FMs and head.

Yeah somehow I was aware of the max possible number of charges but never put it together that the 6th charge comes from gear.

Telos > Cessance, Gleti legs (with maxed augs) > malignance (IMO).

Weapons aren't typically considered when looking at TP sets, but I think unless (and maybe even if) you're DESPERATE for accuracy, Centovente will beat the pants off of Gleti's knife in the OH.

Sailfi +1 > Windbuffet +1. I see so many people on so many jobs still using Windbuffet for TP sets, but Sailfi+1 (R15, obviously) is nearly always the better TP piece on any of the 15 jobs that can use it. Well worth spending the Lustreless Scales to upgrade.

For DNC, I'm also usually pretty reluctant to give up Gere Ring since that's a pretty significant offensive upgrade. I'll do the swap and go 2x Moonlight if the extra DT is truly important for a given situation, but only if it's really necessary.

Not sure what the math is, but Kentarch +1 is a nice waist option as well, I like the MA+STP mix, nice accuracy boost as well between the ACC+/DEX+.

Depends on situation, sometimes Kentarch is good - especially when actually making use of the Acc+14.

I've almost always found Sailfi R15 to beat all options in simulators and spreadsheets though. Surprises me that it's overlooked so frequently.

I wish Gerdr Belt +1 didn't have such awkward stats. The DW+4 makes it hard to fit into sets, either it's too much or not enough. If it just got rid of the DW entirely (and idk, replaced it with crit DMG for a unique pairing of STP/C.rate/C.dmg) that would be such a neat little toy.

Just remember that Gletis legs require either haste samba or haste in belt slot.

Yet another point in favor of Sailfi.

For Aminon, is Terpsichore better than Twashtar? Obv Prime is the best, but until then wondering which Mainhand I should aim for.

For Aminon specifically, I’d say the order is Prime > Twash or Aeonic > Terp. I’m not sure exactly how twash vs aeonic shakes out but I know a lot of dancers used Aeonic early on before getting s3 dagger. Setan path C is an option as well if you have it.

Terp in general is not offering much for Aminon. You’re not gonna stack climactic with PK. Rudra and Shark Bite will be the WS you alternate before working up to s3 prime.

When you get s3 prime, do you offhand it with Aeonic on main for the TP bonus or am I missing something?

edit: oh, i guess you can't use prime ws in offhand :(

Multi hit weaponskills aren't going to do nearly as much on Aminon as just stacking climactic with rudra's. If you don't have Mpu gandring then twashter is your next best bet, followed by aeneas. Terpsicore is fine on gartell and leshonn but really you should aim for one of the other two until you get your stage 3.

You also don't gain tp bonus from aeonic offhand

Edit: nvm i misread that as using aeonic in offhand, lol little dyslectic this morning i suppose.

Don't forget Setan Kober. Path C is made for Aminon. I wouldn't use it over Mpu but it maybe be second best.
