Aside from the fact that I can't find a source for your 1/3 claim anywhere, here's what I actually did find:

Quote:
How much electricity does Grand Coulee Dam produce annually? Grand Coulee Dam is the largest hydropower producer in the United States, generating more than 21 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity each year. That's enough power to supply 2.3 million households with electric- ity for one year.

Given that there are an estimated 126.22 million households, that's enough energy to provide for... less than 2% of our energy needs. Impressive for a single dam, but not even as good as some individual nuclear plants in the south. Sorry, but hydro and wind are not even remotely up to the task of powering the U.S.

That number gets even smaller when you realize residential is only about 37% of total electrical needs, commercial and industrial are much larger. So that 2% just became less then three quarters of a percent.

The issue is one of scope, it's like astrophysics, humans just aren't capable of intuiting that kind of scale.

Raveal, I did not imply that it is the sole supplier.

Electricity goes where the demand is.

Although I am only a few miles from the GCD, I get my power from another dam. (I have mentioned my PUD.) In the meantime the GCD might be selling electricity to Chicago or LA and several other areas.

Social collapse in less then 10 years from global warming? It was also pretty gloomy when they made the same predictions in the 70s. And 80s. And 90s. And 00s.

They been making that prediction since before WWI when the progenitors of the theory were pushing it as a way to combat rampant industrialization of rural areas which replaced many idyllic green landscapes with ugly factories. Ever since then they've been coming up with ever more scary boogeyman.

I've said this before, if you truly believe in catastrophic climate Armageddon, then do your part for humanity and reduce the population by one.

Do us all a favor and go first. That entire post was made up. Meanwhile, enjoy the longer, colder winters and longer, hotter summers as the 4 seasons continue to recede.
Ooh is this the new doomsday prediction?

Global warming is now going to...... make 4 seasons turn into 2!

Dun dun dun.

That's ridiculous Saevel, no one is asking us to give up electricity, just to stop generating it with fossil fuels.
Chanti, there is no way to replace the generating capacity of non “green” power.

It can barely keep its place in line with the worlds growing demand.

If we only relied on it, we would all use the capacity we used 100 years ago.

Now for the real kicker, all the liberal sheeps keep thinking residential power and SUV's as being the energy hogs.

What's ironic in that is that I'm living in a liberal mecca and I see SUVs everywhere. In other words, even if they believe it, they don't care enough to do anything about it.

Probably because no one believes SUVs and residential power are energy hogs, its just a made up argument. Coal however, continues to be a worthless energy source and its been nice to see Trump's quest to save it has not stopped its decline.
Coal production and jobs are up bud. You’re wrong yet agajn.

I guess we’re not going to desert the earth anymore (its actually getting greener).

Or we’re not going to turn the ocean into battery acid anymore (ocean has other mechanisms to address this).

The goalposts have again been moved to a new boogeyman, only 2 seasons. Damn you science deniers!!! How can you not care about “muh fall foliage”?

Flailing with no sources. Exports might be temporarily up, but domestic consumption is down along with overall production as natural gas continues to slowly kill coal. Plants are retiring and not coming back, which is a good thing. Go away coal, and take nausi with you.

Not at all, overall production is down and will continue to fall, and exports are forecasted to drop next year as well. Thanks for showing us you dont know anything about coal. It will never "thrive" again, and thats a good thing.

Paul Manafort Sets Fire To His Plea Deal
Wonkette. trigger warning

Choice bits:
Quote:
...
So we're going to find out about the all the dirty lies Paul Manafort told the Special Counsel. They'll be laid out in court documents that no one, including Trump's wingnut hitman Matthew Whitaker, can suppress....

There are a lot of theories on the intertubez about what happened here. Did Mueller outsmart Trump by getting a court to order him to lay out his facts in a speaking indictment, so that any denial will constitute a waiver of executive privilege? Uhhh ... some people hear hoofbeats and think ZEBRAS!

Did Mueller expect that Manafort would lie -- this is the guy who uploaded his attempted witness tampering to the iCloud, after all -- and deliberately fed him bad information so that it would get back to Trump and wind up as corroborating lies submitted in President Trump's written responses, as eponymous Russia-watcher Marcy Wheeler suggests?
Quote:
But Mueller's team appears to have no doubt that Manafort was lying to them. That means they didn't really need his testimony, at all. It also means they had no need to keep secrets — they could keep giving Manafort the impression that he was pulling a fast one over the prosecutors, all while reporting misleading information to Trump that he could use to fill out his open book test. Which increases the likelihood that Trump just submitted sworn answers to those questions full of lies.
Can we say perjury trap???

It's just the typical TDS folks. The funny thing is that this means Manafort won't be providing Mueller with any information that could be used against anyone. Now nothing Manafort has ever said can be used in a future trial because the prosecution has just labeled him untrustworthy. Testimony given under a plea bargain was already considered pretty worthless but at least they could of used it to get a warrant or something, but now they can't even do that because no Judge would accept it.

Now consider Chanti was one of the "Manafort's gonna spill the beans and Trumps going to jail" folks..

Its more like Manafort lied to protect Trump but Mueller saw through it and found the evidence anyway without Manafort's help and its completely usable so now Manafort will spend the rest of his life in prison having failed to protect Trump. Hope it was worth it.

Mueller is running out of options.

Manafort doesn’t have what Mueller wants. He can’t corroborate anything Mueller wants to allege because well, there was no collusion after all.

So lets try and connect Trump to something that never happened and try and pretend London isn’t full of cameras that would have recorded Manafort at the equadorian embassy if he was there.
