At least 2 million of the comments were filed with stolen identities. The NY AG's office has a searchable list of known stolen identities and is investigating.

Any of us might be on it.
I didn't seem to be.

Great discussion on Post Modernism.

Can't really summarize such a topic but basically it's collectivism vs individualism with collectivism promoting a mysticism based ideology where beliefs and feelings are more important then hard reality. Kinda underlines the point that Communism / Socialism is the left's religion.

I could see you at a Christmas party ruining everyone's time with this net neutrality ***. Hey Merry Christmas let's talk about the FCC.
I hate other people, why would I go to any party, let alone a Christmas party?

That explain's why you are forum moderator.

Remember how horrible the Internet was before 2015? Then for two years it was free and amazing. Now it's gonna suck again.

"Net neutrality" is a *** name just like the "Patriot Act" and the "Affordable Care Act"

It was nothing more than the first step to government censoring content and opinion of the Internet which is the opposite of "free".

That's not what Net Neutrality is nor why it was implemented. Prior to it's implementation Cable Company ISP's were starting to throttle traffic for streaming sites like Netflix, Hulu and Youtube in order to prevent their customers from droping overpriced cable packages in favor of a la carte content from those sites. It began escalating until the FCC put their foot down.

There's a lot of misinformation out there, clouding the minds of people to the point they start repeating it.

If ISP's didn't have such an airtight monopoly on internet access then there wouldn't be a need for Net Neutrality regulations. But without open competition a free market doesn't work.

I live in a rural county. I have fiber to my wall. I have a choice of 5 or 6 ISPs over the fiber, 2 satellite, and IDK how many over copper.

WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH THE REST OF THE COUNTRY?

Here, it's either Cox Communications or AT&T.

I think Scragg was also hoping they'd be developing fiber in his neighborhood but I dunno if they ever did. I'd assume other companies have some way of low key bullying other options out.

It has to do with who owns the wires going down the street. In the cast of phone companies, they own the phone wires and that is the medium that DSL runs over and thus they have a monopoly on any DSL related service. For the cable wires it's the local cable company and they provide internet through a DOCSIS cable network. The vast majority of places have those two entities and no other choices if their lucky. Those two companies compete over market share but frequently enter into agreements about network expansion and operations in order to keep up profit margins. If a place is super lucky they have a third provider who ran their own fiber lines, but that's expensive and difficult to do with municipal support for all the permits they need to get.

Which is where the real dirt enters, frequently the large Cable / DSL ISP's will flat our bribe local counsel members / politicians to prevent any competitors from getting the permits to move in and start up shop. Utility regulations are what is presently market expansion, they allow for only one cable and one phone utility in a region along with one power and one water utility. The cable and phone utilities then take advantage of their special government supported monopolies to extort the captive market.

How it works out here.

A public utility district provides our electricity. It owns the power lines, the poles, and the right of way. All it needed was permission to run fiber and it lobbied hard for that.

They figured they could make money from the use of the fiber and save money with remote meter reading.

Any electric company could do the same. But they don't. Being a cynic I claim they are waiting until they can get a government subsidy, but I really have no idea.

In the meantime, Seattle, which has a city owned public power provider Seattle City Light, has hired Google to fiberize the city....

That's a cool story but the ending was kinda disappointing.
