people would likely pay capped gil for a perfect +2 of the job they want, what's your point?

I saw a scrub idling in a perfect +2 earring for one of my favorite jobs. He was successful in making me salty, even though I normally don't /check people (he was a party member). The random reward system is one of the most disappointing things in this game.

Got a RL friend of mine who has a +2 DRG earring. Min roll, but I only have a mid roll+1. I say it doesn't bother me, but in the back of my head I am jealous because I want a +2 for my favourite class. And at the time he didn't even have it unlocked!

One day in the future, you'll get a +2 DRG earring with a very mid roll and be thrilled about it. Then three out of your next four +2 earrings will also be DRG and have worse augments than the first +2 you got.

And on that day I will still be happy, since AFAIK I have no reason to want a COR one, PLD will be a fun one to have, and WAR will be when I'm meta-slaving away.

This prophecy has happened before and will happen again.

if it were up to me (thankfully it isn't) I'd instead encourage and reward people who have cleared hard fights to help those who haven't, thereby raising the skill floor of the entire playerbase. mercs would still happen and people would get geared and be clueless, but to a lesser degree. giving people ultra rare top of line loot as a result of complete luck just keeps people inexperienced in the content hoping for table scraps. and it works, but degrades everything that came before.

i bet itg loud thuds have old case +1, too. calling it now.

Why limit it to just the case? Just bloat the pool with base +1/+2 earrings, no augments. That's 44 "new" items right there and keeps you going to sortie to get the actually good, augmented earrings

I doubt they would think this through enough to pull it off, but a ??? Case +2 that pops the earring for job you're on currently would be so much better. Add it to the trove ITG pool so that it's so incredibly rare to begin with, but at least you take the randomness out of it by forcing the job.

Bingo. +1 cases in login points is fine, really. But it feels bad because it means either SE/Fujito still don't understand what players hate about Sortie earring RNG, or they do but aren't willing/able to address it.

Players: "This lootbox system is terrible and broken, please change it."
SE: "Nah. But here's a FREE* pity lootbox if you juice our daily login metrics!"

Cases will always be lottery. I don't really care about earrings personally, my motivation for SOrtie was always the armor. That said, it would have been nice if the earrings worked on an RP system where you could upgrade the augment. The problem is that they would probably force you to play that job in Sortie and ruin your meta galli farm comp. The alternative would be to force you to spend galli for the upgrades and people already cry about splitting time between armor and primes...

I'm probably gonna get hated on for this, but if you're tight on Galli you dont need to spend 80k of it on emp+3 for a job you play once every 24 months for 2 hours. The 10k +2 version will be more than sufficient for what you're doing (which is likely Ambuscade when that one unique fight rolls around). "But I must upgrade it all to put on storage slips" is an unwise conscious choice if you're Galli-pinching.

It could be as simple as feeding earrings you don't want to a goblin for points.

Or excess upgrade rocks. Aside from Mesos, most groups doing Sortie on the regular are going to have way more of everything else than they will ever be able to use.

The goal is not to let players hurry up and get perfect earrings, it's to have some kind of path to do so as a nice side bonus for the people putting in the time in the muffin mines.

i completely overlooked the fact +2 case exists, so make that the prediction. what else has been added that isn't already a part of the trove rewards?

Sapphires and starstones. Hypothetically useful, in practice there's not much point in them as a prize since you have to just go do the content you'd have gotten them from anyway to use them. Basically just like omen cards except they're worth 3k to an NPC.

Naturally, they'll be part of the loud thud pool.

Putting sortie stones in Loud Thud pool is diabolical because they're absolutely useless (minus a couple hundred gil) if you dont do Sortie, and mostly useless for people who do Sortie (they already have more than they'll ever need)

They're def putting them in there.

They could put mesosiderite in there so soloers would only need millions of galli to finish their primes which should keep them logging in for a while lol.

Soloing sortie blows. Sortie being time gated to basically one run a day locks players in either cultishly tight statics, or *** +3 and primes, Ill just play a different game status.
