can only relax so many things before the game starts to lose its identity. I guess the increase in new accounts was enough to convince them to prioritize this kind of QoL aimed specifically at new players, but nerf too many things the OGs consider rites of passage and part of the game and you start to piss them off. probably not enough for anyone to quit over, but doesn't generate any goodwill either.

The kind of shitheels that throw a hissy when you make things easier better by removing obstacles are long gone.
All you have left are lifers. All bark and no action. No one cares if thewre angwy.

Making things easier = nerfing endgame, which is generally well-received and elites won't quit over it anyway
Removing obstacles, as in taking out relatively easy side quests, just takes away from the period between being a new player to hitting the monotonous grind of sortie or the brick wall of odyssey. I would argue that's the best period of the game, you get rapid progress and have a wide variety of tasks to do and content to experience.
The people who want them gone are the ones who have done them n times and don't want to have to repeat it for their next mule. New players are perfectly fine with an hour-long soloable task that makes them feel like they accomplished something.

Literally nobody will be sad if, for example, they make the Time Extension Campaign permanent. Or if they make Fortune drops 50% or even 100%.

XI endgame is already gated enough from "OG players" let alone when the actual game gates it with the 45 day wait for gear from Ody. Or clearing SoA/RoV for Sortie/Omen. People are that used to having Ody gear they don't realise how OP it is compared to the next gear down.
Easing up on restrictions is ultimately a good thing for every player not just the fresh ones.
For background I started in 2005 which is actual OG and I don't care about SE reducing these restrictions.

100%
Having taken non-Sakpata Warriors into Ody C before. It is very evident that pure ambuscade gear (which in itself was a huge step up from previous options) is subpar to Ody gears.

the point was that they are focusing on things that typically only matter once in a characters life, with the hopes of attracting more really new players. just wonder if that comes from fujito or yoshida

I think a lot of the push back on nerfs comes from "I had to do missions for days before getting access to N" bitterness.
Like the tiny violin playing or the "in my day we had to walk through ten feet of taru bodies to clear dreamland dyna" types.
There's really no reason *to* require dreamland dyna clears for dyna D. That's not even OG dyna (yes I know it's lore related, literally no one gives af).

They gotta start somewhere. Getting access to it isn't the same as being ready for it.
Should take beaucidine out, the boss might chainspell death on you, maybe the 3 nations as i think they can also cast death. Just take out all the requirements really
The requirements are ridiculously high. Though you're being sarcastic, they should infact get rid of them.
Every stumbling block, every hurdle, every 30 year old mission. They're just nuisances. they're not going to get help for it, its just more chores they have to look up and grind instead of just being allowed to play.
They should be, Rov acts as a blocker to ideally keep completely undergeared people from endgame. I see no reason why this shouldn't continue to keep the people who cant research things out aswell. Quality control isn't a bad thing.

Could argue following a wiki and getting the needed items to weaken said bosses is the most basic of basic things for FFXI. If players can't be bothered to do this, would you want to include them in harder content?
By Dodik 2025-09-03 15:17:09
Dyna-D is not "hard content" these days. Everyone has to learn sometime, might as well be dyna-d. If they die a lot, well they learn from it hopefully.
Dyna was the proving ground of "how much can you die" back in the day. Some learn, some don't.

I have been in support of a lot of changes like omeb cards and dyna shard decreases, i fully agree making the game more accessible is a good thing for us all. That said they shouldn't be dumbing the game down. Like this stuff is almost 20 years old, information is easily available. People dying to this should be failing until they learn the game better.
I seriously worry they'll give Xi the Xiv treatment in an attempt to appeal to the masses we'll loose the game we have. If I wanted something to hold my hand I would be playing another mmo

Game is 26 years old. Imagine gatekeeping.
You should be begging people to come through not giving them ***.

I don't disagree, happy to have any and all new players along for the ride. Just surprised there are actually that many. With 14 being in the worst position it has ever been since ARR launched, maybe fans are trying 11 more than I thought.

You should be begging people to come through not giving them ***. I love seeing new players that said I'm also not a babysitter. Its on them to be self motivated and to look for the information. If they're not going to put the work in, why should I? I don't invest any energy into people who aren't willing todo that themselves. A
A while back a former member of my sortie group wanted to bring his highly undergeared, underskilled and erratically available RL friend to our 8 boss runs when we needed a rep. He was cor and I had to walk him step by step rolling multiple runs. It was an argument when we had a full time slot and the member wanted his friend to join. I said hard no, to the dumbest argument I've ever heard in this game. His friend would get invested if we picked him up, to me I want to play with people who are invested in the game without being carried through the current content.

Gatekeeping:
Enter dyna qufim
Farm nightmare mobs for undying juju
Kill Suttung for Undying Moiety
Kill Antateus
Not gatekeeping:
Enter dyna qufim
Farm nightmare mobs for undying juju
Kill Antateus
If doing lv75 content when you have, at the absolute minimum, ilvl 117 gear readily available is too difficult for you to clear solo with trusts, you are absolutely *** boned if you want to partake in lv1125+++ content. You are going to get absolutely steamrolled.
By Dodik 2025-09-03 15:42:03
Easier access to dyna doesn't mean you have to carry people through the hardest content in the game.
I get your point, and I agree, but the two are not equivalent.

Quote: Have completed the mission A Rhapsody for the Ages.
Be in possession of the permanent Key Item Dynamis - Tavnazia sliver.
Obtained by defeating at least one of the Dynamis - Tavnazia bosses: Diabolos GUI.png Diabolos Heart, Diamond, Spade, or Club.
If were comparing difficulty between these requirements solo using sparks equipment: killing dreamlands bosses is a 2 and completing RoV is an 8 imo
easing up the time sink on some of the RoV missions is good though, dont get me wrong. They should scrap all the game day or JP midnight waits in the game.

But then how will you enjoy the panic of rushing to the the upgrade NPC when it's 23:45 so you can get 2 for the price of one?
Only to curse the NPC out for taking your rems tales

The issue I have with this is its not making any of the gear requirements easier like nynja said. Its lowering the knowledge and thought requirements. Makes it so people don't need to learn about what theyre doing. New players should be playing with the wiki up whenever they do something new.

The EP is reasonable, unless you expect it to be better than locus camps for some reason?
If you answer it should be the same or better than locus camps, I'll explain why it cant work that way: If its similar or better than locus camps, no one will go to locus camps, they'll just sit in limbus and double dip EP and units.
It SHOULD be better than locus camps. Nobody is at Locus camps farming EP, they're at Locus camps botting. Player activity should be rewarded higher than botting.
The game is full of things to do now and those activities should reward high amounts of EP. Nobody has time for this s**t any more.

The bots would just move. This keeps them from hogging limbus camps.

If you want to argue that Sheol, Omen, DynaD, Sortie offer garbo EP, have at it. They should. Theyre limited time events, you cant sit in them forever.

If you don't think limbus giving better ep than locus camps wouldn't end up wirh every botter at those camps in limbus.... Well would you be interested in buying a bridge?

Designing your content around botting services is really incredibly defeatist and dumb. Just monitor the content and ban them. Fukin ez.

with what resources? we need to accept the game we have and not the game that it could or should be. botting happens, they don't ban everyone who it, these are objective facts we can observe. Would you rather the limbus camps be filled with ep botters or not? In the game we currently have what is better for the most people? I think we both know the answer, we may not like it but it is what it is.

More Limbus NMs? What they're releasing this month are the Domain Invasion style NMs. Maybe the reward items are things like accessories (e.g., modern versions of stuff like Brutal/Loquacious Earrings), and they'll further expand the NM system later for Homam/Nashira style armor sets.
Didn't they mention something about new high tiers too? Can't recall if that was a 2026 thing if so, but that would also be a possibility - Bahamut high tier or something.
