You can reforge and reobtain.
First method that works is using the Deeds KI thing.
You can obtain new THF pieces even after having reforged them to +3.
It's the system I used.
But I think if you store your AF on the slips, you can go to the AF reset NPC and reset it and then do it again? Haven't tried it but it might work.
With that said, despite me having a Steal focused set, I'm very skeptic on the benefit of that stat when it comes to increase the rate at which the Impish Box is stolen from the imps.
No real objective data, just a feeling.

Times I've needed items that I already had in storage or a mule: countless.
Times I've cared about my pack ratting tendencies: zero. I've even upgraded items I already had and forgot about. There you have it. Fortunately this only extends in game, I hate clutter irl.

Storing them the old(KI-based) way, the new(slips) way, or reforging them at any level all work. As long as you don't have any of the OG base pieces(weapon included) in a bag somewhere, you can reset. I have the max possible steal gear outside of Gorney Ring --yes, I farmed Rogue's Ring and made a swap to drop my HP to the appropriate level... and don't even get me started on farming Bartholomew's Knife, it was basically Shinryu HTBC-level drop rate-- and I often get beat to the steal by a mule who has next to nothing.

Cloud of Darkness already up in January, no drops from the story to compare to so I wonder what they'll come up with?

I'm going to guess a mask. But in also seriousness, I hope they start giving out some master+pet DT pieces, a good shield for BST, and another piece with magic crit II.
Oh yeah and a katana that gives everyone in the party a single utsusemi charge on cast. Eveyone know 3 charges are a prize worth winning a bonanza, but the rest of us scrubs can get by with a defensive katana that functions in the offhand as a hate tool.

It will cost 38 Merit Points to get in and the good gear will have a 0.1% drop rate.

I could see it having something for MNK/SAM/NIN and maybe some pet jobs(hard maybe).
The kung-fu trio didn't get much at all with shinryu HTBF. smn needs some love, something game changing, but i doubt gear would fix it, really needs a whole rework
