I stopped paying a few months ago. I know it doesn't help much in the grand scheme of things, but...

The problem with the developers is the disgraceful total lack of communication with the players (which is even worse considering they actually pay people to do this for them), even if they are working on some great things (or beta testing it) they have to tell people or they will just stop logging in. Them changing the free login campaign last month was a huge slap in the face for me personally (mainly because I try to get people to come back and advertise it), that they can't even be bothered to tell us till the last damn minute it was canceled and then still not give us a date for it starting in December now says it all.

The developers have always held it's players in utter contempt (muh barance), the difference is that drop rates being so low and the community aspect being so strong meant it really didn't matter as much that they ignored us back then. It matters now.

Sadly it's not going to change, if you unsub they won't wake up. They will just think we got sick of FFXI and send us an email to go play FFXIV, because really that's their pride and joy at this point (due to all those delicious micro-transactions ontop of the sub they managed to get the games playerbase to swallow). XI is the re****d kid they keep locked in the basement.

Oh and if you think ff14 is any better, it's not. If anything it's worse, the players constantly complain about content droughts and the problem is because the game is even more casual than FFXI by a huge margin. So the burn rate is higher.

It's so bad they try to turn a failng into a virtue.

I don't know how long FFXI has left but I do know it would be considerably longer if they listened to the people that play it. Even minor tweaks that would take an hour to do would make a difference but they just don't ever happen, because they never listen to the people that play the game.

I and many others could list so many things they could change that would make a big difference but they never hear them, they never even get to consider them.

Glitch-crafting™ and medal duping without seemingly any ramifications kind of burnt me on the game. I know it has been a tough year for everyone adjusting to the new ways of the world, but this has been going on for longer than any global health crisis.

Why should we believe they're busy working on some big project when they can't even be bothered to spell check their version update announcements anymore. If anything it just shows how little effort they're putting into content development. I mean come on, it was just one short paragraph and they did it twice.

When Covid-19 kicked off they had no remote access to dev boxes. As casual racist RadialArcana pointed out, they have only JUST rolled out a full remote working package.

I suspect they are still having issues with this that they are only discovering over time. And I would expect that to continue too.

Not that I make any apologies for SE. Their history of communication with the players (esp. non-JP speaking players) has been ***. But we also know the total lack of flexibility in thought that SE have, so I'm not in any way surprised by the fact that it has taken them ages to adjust and there are still ***-ups.

I really like unbalanced jobs. It creates a massive number of sad, critical and pessimistic people who try to comfort themselves with strange excuse that their favorite job is somehow useful under certain conditions.

Nah. What's happened is that now people just feel comfortable saying: "that was racist, and you shouldn't have said it".

You could say "Actually, you're right, there's nothing funny about racism. I'll stop doing that."

No argument to be had. I'd lobby for you to be banned but these forums have a history of tolerating casual discrimination, so I can't quite see that happening.

What is racist about saying a word the way the developers have said just that way in interviews in the past? is it a racial trait that makes them say BARANCE or is it due to where they are brought up and the language they speak from a child?

Would a white person brought up in Japan and speaking Japanese say Balance because they have white skin? or would that white person brought up in Japan also say BARANCE because of the langauge they were taught and use?

Would a JP person brought up in the UK say BARANCE because they are Japanese or would they say Balance, you seem to think it's intrinsic to the Japanese race to say BARANCE. I can assure you it's not, the issue you have is that you are in-fact the racist.

Criticizing someone for racism, then admitting that you would want him to be banned. Prime example of cancel culture.

Like @RadialArcana already explained, the way japanese people say those words is not a racial thing. I know people from Poland who were speaking perfect polish language as kids, traveled to USA and after 30 years of living there now talks with strong american accent and some words sound really funny. they speak very good accented english tho.

So if anything its joking from person inability to do something, because that person was using its mind or body to do something else and lost flexibility to easily do something else. Anyone from non english speaking country, from whatever race, will sound funny speaking english if he is not taught how to do it properly. You can say someone who laugh about it is mean, but not racist. Also many times people targeted by those jokes, laugh about it too, because they exactly know its not an inborn trait, but something they can learn or change if they want.

EDIT: I started writing this way before I saw Rooks comment about getting back on topic. I guess Im not gonna now delete it, but wont discuss it further as suggested.

iirc Tokyo (where SE's headquarters and our servers are) had lifted its lockdown over the summer, so they were able to actually go into the office in June~Octoberish. About a month ago now they instigated some soft lockdown practices, mostly just a sort of "business curfew", if you will... I don't recall them issuing any hard lockdown in recent times, unlike Hokkaido... but the population density and the rising case numbers likely will cause them to do so. Probably in December.

So their recent production is more likely the result of being able to not remote it. Though I'd assume they've been setting things up to go remote, if they're not 99% remote right now, since now is the yearly Flu Season.
It would be nice to know how they're doing things atm, if only from a humanitarian perspective.

This could indicate they haven't set up fully for more remote development... Sure would be nice to know! (Interestingly the JPside just is "scheduling reasons"... which sounds more pandemic related than the ENGside's "oopsie" feeling choice of translation. At least to me.)

TL:DR some Asian languages don’t have L (most the time), F or Z equivalents

Since I doubt many others speak an Asian language fluently, allow me to enlighten. Japanese and Korean don’t have a designated sound or letter that represents some letters we have. Koreans have ㄹ (lee-uhl) which as a stand alone is either a rolled R but if doubled up makes a standard English “ell” sound. However, the doubled up lee-uhl isn’t all too frequent, especially when speaking English for Koreans. Koreans also don’t have equivalents of F and Z so they are usually pronounced like P and G respectively.
