Happy Friday!

This thread isn't locked yet?

I'm sure if we really applied ourselves we could get the thread locked in about 30 mins.

Not agreeing with your summary but how is that a problem? For you? For the president?
Because as a consumer of football, we dont want to watch it with injected with left wing political activism
So is it time to stop playing the anthem period, along with stop paying the military to be present? I mean, you said you don't want politics in your sports.

The anthem is only political if you think the concept of patriotism is a political issue. That of course reinforces any suspicions that leftists hate the country (of course they do).

Leftists hate national identity, it stops them from forming a collective communist world government which is their end goal. After breaking down all national identities they can then unite the world under a single government, controlled by them of course.

When viewed from that angle everything they do makes perfect sense.

I would think anyone who identifies as any flavor of libertarian would find patriotism to be as distasteful as any "leftist" as it still emphasizes putting a collective first and sacrificing for the greater good. It's just what you're sacrificing for who.

No one gives a damn about any of our opinions on the topic, but frankly while I understand why the protesting started -- even Saev has railed against police abuse of power and lack of oversight/hiding behind the blue line -- I think it was a poorly-planned way to get the point across.

I really do think both "sides" of this argument have significant merit.

That is to say, to anyone who wasn't paying very close attention from the get-go, it looks like a protest of the government/country in general and you can see why someone who isn't really interested sees it as an insult to the flag, country, and military and not as a way of bringing awareness to a cause.

As a form of protest intended to draw attention to a very specific issue it's failed sort of spectacularly.

I don’t know though. It’s definitely successful in the regard of getting attention. The intent has failed but that is also in part due of one wings media machines efforts to influence perception over the others.

It did bring awareness, then people realized that the odds of a random black person who is not committing any crimes at all getting shot by police unjustified is as likely getting struck by lightning while winning the lottery, as the same black man.

Which is to say, the same odds of getting struck by lightning while winning the lottery as anybody else.

It's fine and great to point out very specific instances of police brutality, but unless you have statistics that prove it, pointing out very general ideals of police brutality when it doesn't occur doesn't make a protest worthwhile. So, people look at what the person really is doing. Which is, disrespecting the flag and what it symbolizes.

That was always going to be the case though.

Like everything it's more nuanced than anyone wants to make it.

KK's initial point was quite valid. Somewhat ironically, however, in fashion similar to the police, in an act of "presenting a solid front" it's gone horribly awry. Teams with perfectly benign police forces protesting and their corresponding forces going "wait, wtf? We didn't shoot anyone recently!"

Saev has a very snarky way of saying because he doesn't believe in it as a positive thing, it but he's not necessarily wrong about socialism/globalism. It asks people to look at the whole before themselves. Which is why it's so difficult to tackle the "privilege" concept because when you're white, you've grown up poor, you can't afford higher education and your job is ***, you're constantly behind on bills, and your truck needs repairs...all this "white privilege" doesn't feel very real.

Because white privilege is a social problem, not an individual one. And when life is shitty you have a hard time getting past the individual.

Should really look into what Kapernick and other athletes have done with his money. Seems to be conveniently ignored.

So, are you saying that there are no poor white people? That every single white person in the world is super successful due to the color of their skin?

Are you also saying that there are no successful non-white people? Are you saying that every single non-white person in the world is unsuccessful due to the color of their skin?

Are you saying that there's no other factors that determines a person's success, like ability, education, merit, etc., that determines the person's success, but instead it all boils down to the color of their skin?

Are you really trying to pass off many factors and reasons of a person's success because it makes you feel good?

Because "white privilege" is Lordgrim-level trolling.

Or they are both intentionally disrespectful.

But then again, we are now hearing facts about this so-called "he knew what he was getting into" phone call, where it shows that Trump never said that. But you wouldn't hear about that on CNN, would you?

Tell me pleebo, if I burned the rainbow flag to protest police brutality, you'd be cool with it right?
Go nuts, dude. It's a *** flag. There's been many an action against actual LGBT people so a piece of disposable material is the least of anyone's worries.
You mean the rush of "fake" hate crimes? Or the oppression of daring to think people with gender identity disorder might not make great soldiers?
Also, does that mean that you recognize my burning of a flag to be a sogn of disrespect?

This is really what it comes down to. Flags, crosses, etc.

Symbols mean things to a large portion of people and if you piss all over them -- or are even perceived as doing so -- they get super-mad.

It's because the current leftists in the world have the singular goal of creating a world government, with them in charge. Every nation who has followed this path has ended up destroying their country and killing tens of millions of people. Stalin's death count is at the 50 million mark, Mao at the 30 million and Hitler at a mere 20 million (debates on what flavor of socialist this could be called). When we look at it by country it gets even nastier, China has a 73 million person body count, Soviet Union over 60 million, DPRK over three million and Cambodia two and a half million.

http://www.scottmanning.com/content/communist-body-count/

Socialism and it's eventual result Communism is a failed system that results in the deaths of millions are the state is simply incapable of managing economies of that size. The government will always, without exception, abuse any power it's granted. Doesn't matter if it's conservative or liberal, any powers granted to the government will be abused and the citizenry will be the targets of that abuse. Why on earth would anyone want to give more power, that will be abused, to the government then absolutely necessary. Socialism / Communist seeks absolutely control over the government, which is why Socialism always turns into Communism. They seek that control because it's the only way to enact the "ideal society" each wants to create. Absolute equality (the goal of current Progressives) can only be created with a single party that has absolute control over the lives of the people. Of course the people doing the governing are humans, and humans are selfish greedy *** who work primarily on self interest. Once those "leaders" get that absolute control, they ensure they will never lose it and then proceed to follow the same human self interest that defines our species and results in the deaths of tens of millions.

This is why I make fun of Progressives, they are either short sighted and easily manipulated, or extremely evil. The thing they want is impossible to achieve, and the act of attempting to achieve it will likely result in their own deaths along with millions of their fellow humans. Yet they are too dumb to look at history and see the ample evidence of their own stupidity. "We need to save 10,000 by killing 100,000 people" is kind of a bad idea.
