As the title says, this guy is know as the man who fed millions of people with his high-yielding agricultural methods. Hardly anyone knows who he is, yet thanks to him someday we may have enough food to feed all the people in the world.

R.I.P. Norman Borlaug

Yeah, they actually attribute him to saving a billion lives, just by showing them how to farm drought-resistant crops and produce more yield per plant.

These are the kinds of people we overlook nowadays unfortunately...

Hell, this guy was such an amazing person, any respect to him, religious or not, is greatly appreciated. :D

Politics are lame, when there's people like this who actually make a difference in the world. A billion people he helped save, just by showing them how to grow better crops under extreme conditions.

Hopefully his life's work won't go in vain. One of his best quotes is, "You can't build a peaceful world on empty stomachs and human misery."

That's interesting. Thanks for giving some notice/credit to someone we probably would of otherwise overlooked. :)

No problem. Just the fact that more and more people realize who he was and what he did is probably a great tribute to him.

Another good synopsis is this quote from the Penn & Teller show he appeared on a number of years ago:

"At a time when doom-sayers were hopping around saying everyone was going to starve, Norman was working. He moved to Mexico and lived among the people there until he figured out how to improve the output of the farmers. So that saved a million lives. Then he packed up his family and moved to India, where in spite of a war with Pakistan, he managed to introduce new wheat strains that quadrupled their food output. So that saved another million. You get it? But he wasn't done. He did the same thing with a new rice in China. He's doing the same thing in Africa -- as much of Africa as he's allowed to visit. When he won the Nobel Prize in 1970, they said he had saved a billion people. That's BILLION! BUH! That's Carl Sagan BILLION with a 'B'! And most of them were a different race from him. Norman is the greatest human being, and you probably never heard of him."

Thirding this. It's a shame such a significant and wonderful person's death will go largely unnoticed. Thank you for posting this.

Media would rather play more and more Micheal Jackson coverage than something that actually matters these days.

QFT!
I thought this is the least I could do in his memory and let people know who and what this guy did. Someone who actually made a real difference in the world!

Oh yeah in case anyone wants to see it, this is the first time I heard of Norman. It's from a Penn & Teller: *** episode from about 6 years ago.

So if you want to hear the atheist / libertarianism duo do a documentary on this guy, I've provided a download of the episode for you. You are going to need the Xvid codec to watch this.

Just click the the link and go to save link as, and make sure you can watch Xvid coded videos.

Thank you for bringing this great humanitarian to light. Though he may no longer live, he is survived by the countless people he has saved. May his legacy never die.
