found the screen time out feature which seems to be turning it off after a certain amount of inactivity. from 15 sec to 10 minutes. But it doesnt look like the feature can be turned off..
edit
i tried turning off my phones power save features, and left the pokego battery save feature on, but it doesnt seem to be tracking my distance. I think the phone is still going off and not letting the game stay active. When i turn it on, it still has the brief moment when it has to relocate the gps signal.
Cant turn phone off, phone needs to be upside down in battery saver/sleep mode
my phone itself turns off after a few moments of inactivity tho. Does that happen even when you're watching stuff like youtube videos? no. i just tried it set on 30 sec. Made it through a few songs and it was still on.
What kind of phone are you using? :o On iPhones, the game should work the same way as a youtube video in the sense that it prevents your phone from auto-locking regardless of the delay setting.
Edit: forgot to quote. ^^;

Hmmm, I don't know anything about those phones unfortunately. :< Could be that the app was only optimized for iphone and droid, leading to bugs that haven't been addressed yet for other devices?

i dont think its so much a bug as just how the phone works. The phone auto turns off after a certain amount of time. Max being 10 min.
I havnt been able to test it since finding that. Raining today. But i would imagine that while it hasnt shut off that it would work as intended. Its just that auto shut off feature.

Well if youtube prevents it from shutting off, the game should be doing that too--if it's not, then that could be a bug.

If you're trying to turn off screen sleep and on an android phone, you may have to turn on developer mode, that's what I had to do.

That GoStats app is amazing. Was using Silph Road slowly to check IVs. Got a 88.9% Hitmonlee, 95.6% Hitmonchan, 93.3% Jynx and Magmar, a whopping 97.8% Gyarados and Magikarp, and a 95.6% Aerodactyl. My Snorlax's are like 84% at best. Pretty awesome and a huge time saver on checking.

horrible quality. used an old time digital camera i had. Since the phone is my camera (thats why i got this one.) But you can make out what it does automatically. I have the time out set to 15 seconds for this demonstration. The end was supposed to show the time out options being only certain times and no 'off'. But you cant really make it out.

New app that is like Pokeadvisor to check IVs. this app is ANDROID ONLY currently.
It is called GoStats. Gives exact IVs :D gogogo!
Anything like this for iPhone? Or at least any good web site? I only know https://pokeassistant.com/main/ivcalculator but I compared results with some other random online calculator and they were pretty different.

That's what I was previously using. Bit hard to line up the arc but it's passable.

Getting a seemingly random "Bonus" for some catches that gives an additional 100 xp. What's that about?

Man, the Grimer bug is still a thing. If one's in the area, prepare for the app to crash until it finally depops.
Good thing Grimers arent common here.

Download BlueStacks android emulator on your PC, and then download the app from there. Then just login and you should be fine. You're just using it to see your IVs, so it doesn't need to be linked to your phone. Just your account.

Just got Go today. Playing on my desktop (since my phone isn't good enough to play it lol)
Any beginner guides? I'm kinda just walking around aimlessly and catching pokemon as I see them

If you're spoofing GPS, sit in Central Park, NYC and use this: https://skiplagged.com/catch-that (drag hand around to live update and see stuff pop. Click a Pokemon to see depop time and can filter ones out you don't want to see in the lower left corner via Filter).
If you get soft banned due to moving too fast or going from like, New York to California in 3 seconds (Pokemon run/can't catch anything/Poke stops don't give anything), spam any Poke Stop and spin it, exit, repeat up to 40 times. When it grants items, you're good. Otherwise, soft ban lasts 30 minutes.
Central Park from what I've seen pops EVERYTHING except Lapras.
Spin the Pokeball by holding it and then throw for a curve ball; increases odds of capture. Also the circle that gets smaller=smaller the circle, better the chance of capture.
As you get eggs, put them in an incubator asap. Start with 2, then 5, but if you have a 10, use that. Egg Pokemon usually have extremely good IVs and they give a ton of candies/star dust. It grants the rarer Pokemon from a list you can google. You can't throw eggs sadly, so incubate as often as you can. The game won't register walking for eggs if you're above 12 MPH so be careful.
If IV hunting, from what I've seen, XL/SM size and height don't mean anything. No idea what they do though, but don't think 600kg Snorlax=best. Google Silph Road for a website to check IVs if desktop, or use GoStats app if on an Android, huge time saver.
Spam catch Pidgey/Caterpie/Weedle and save them. When your box is full, pop a Lucky Egg if you have one, and spam evolve them all. 500 exp per evolve (12 candy to evolve them, cheapest evolutions/Pokemon) but 1000 exp with an egg. You will fly through levels this way.
Otherwise, catch everything for Star Dust (used to level up a Pokemon).
Only way to get free Poke Coins is to "control" a Gym and put one of your Pokemon in it. Up to 9 in seperate Gyms can be placed at once. Problem is, people constantly are fighting for ownership, so find rural areas and pray. When you've put a few or however many you can into some Gyms, go to Shop and in the top right is a shield with a number, representing how many Pokemon you have defending a Gym. Click the button to claim coins once every 21 hours. 10 coins per, so try to put as many as you can in, claim coins and then it won't matter, repeat 21 hours later.

Much appreciated, and yeah looks like I got softbanned as soon as I went to central park. I can't catch anything. 100% fail rate lol

Yeah, just click any Poke Stop, spin it, exit, repeat up to 40 times, until it gives items and you're unbanned.

And we're back in action.
Honestly I just want to build a team strong enough to take Fossil Park.
It's where I workout/run my obstacle course and idk lol pet peeve that the Go players come and walk under the pull up bar 5 times looking for a pokemon and not do a single pull up then talk about how much exercise they got playing Go.
I'm claiming that gym lmao

You can only put 1 Pokemon in each Gym, but simple powerhouses are Vaporeon, because Eevee are common as hell. If you nickname it Rainer, it's guaranteed to become one. Sparky for Jolteon, Pyro for Flareon. It's an easter egg from the anime, the Eevee brothers episode. Keep in mind, when someone challenges a Gym, they can use 6 Pokemon to your 1, unless others have joined you to defend. It's a vicious process.

There's nothing like going out to capture a remote gym in an open, deserted area with no cars or people in sight and then seeing it fall under attack 10 seconds later when you start to leave. >___> I guess some people have more fun location spoofing and that's great, but it'd be nice if there was some way to filter them into their own separate sandbox mode or something.

I do think gyms need a rework, it seems if your town/city is 1 team dominant and you're not in then you have no chance of holding a gym. I figured taking down gyms and just sticking my 1 pokemon on the gym wasn't an effective strategy so I just stay on the look out for pre-existing Instinct gyms and either place my pokemon on those, or train them until I can.
Turns out that's only slightly more effective, so here are my problems with gyms:
1) It's far too easy to take them down than build them up, I believe you should get less points for successfully beating pokemon at gyms and at the same time, training a gym should be more effective.
2) The amount of pokemon you can use against a gym should match the amount of pokemon at that gym, the attacker already holds multiple advantages in that they can see what pokemon they'll fight ahead of time, they can dodge attacks and can use their own attacks more intelligently.
3) Teaming up on a gym should decrease the effect on lowering a gym's influence, it should be that net gain 2 people attacking at the same time should reduce the the overall influence drop by 25% or so, in practice teaming up will still be far more effective at lowering a gym than doing it solo but you won't just basically burn the whole thing down in a couple minutes.
4) Improve defender bonus, right now I feel that unless there is another gym nearby I can put my pokemon on then I have to claim a defender bonus the moment I get it, they should keep the bonus for each pokemon on a gym but consider adding an bonus for each hour you keep a pokemon on a gym, maybe 1 pokecoin and 50 stardust.
I would say defender bonus should stay even if you lose the gym but if that happened you could just keep taking gyms for the bonus not caring whether you lose them and Niantic would stop making money on pokecoins so that's probably dead in the water, perhaps allow a grace period to claim defender bonus but if you take another gym while that grace period is in effect, you lose your waiting bonus.

1. Agree
2. Disagree: You still reduce the amount of prestige for every pokemon you KO, so even if you don't beat them all, you're still damaging it. With persistence, you'll overcome it to a point where you'll sweep it.
3. Agree
4. Agree/Disagree: This is a hard one for me. Part of me wants to agree solely because it's almost impossible to hold a gym in a larger city, BUT they already have the huge advantage of being able to find/collect far more pokemon than suburb/rural players do.

Lastly, someone is probably going to want to get up in arms about GPS spoofing. Please don't, not here. I wanna keep this thread drama-free.
Also, even in the nice neighborhood I'm working in, no good Pokemon but on the way to work and on the way home, I often see Vulpix on nearby (now sightings) so I'm thinking there may be a Vulpix nest somewhere in my town.

So they just announced this:

I realize the game itself won't look anything like this until maybe a decade or two of updates, if ever. Even so, I am happy to be alive in this day and age.
For perspective, it is very reminscent but NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Google's April Fool's joke:
