grass ruffling always means a pokemon is nearby and may spawn soon.
They don't always spawn, though.
i find that hard to believe. Iv had this since it came out. Nothing has ever spawned at my house. Not once...

Looks like rustling leaves are gone.
They never seemed to.mean anything anyway.

*** hated those false hope leaves, especially after having a Poliwrath on my top on the nearby list. I saw rustling grass, rushed to it, nada, save for a Ederle popping in the opposite direction BEHIND ME.

Whoooaaaa I thought I had the new tracker because my "Nearby" list was replaced with a "Sightings" list that shows pokemon standing next to tall grass, but apparently this is the new tracker?
I guess the photos are showing the closest stop from each spawn?
I had no idea until some girl on fb posted a pic of it. Why can't I have nice things?? ; ;

Thats something different... I walked around a bunch of pokestops when update was released, and I haven't seen one of them nearby things. Ninja edit? o.O

that's completely worthless if you're not near any pokestops

Apparently the "Nearby Sightings" has only been released for a selected group of players for testing, so very few people have it right now.

Nearby Sightings is still in "beta" if you can call it that. Several players in the San Fran area have reported receiving that update. As Proth indicated, fairly worthless if you're not near pokestops.
However, I'm not entirely sure those sightings are stops or landmarks....(probably stops since, Ingress maps) - either way, they are improving, or trying to, and I should give them credit as quickly as I would discredit them otherwise.
The current sightings view is cosmetic, but apparently completely useless. It shows a pokemon in a patch of grass. So what? We want to know what direction it is in. Still not tracking.
I just wish they would seriously buy Pokevision, or create the logic with an in-game map. I don't even mind if they charge an additional fee from the shop to make it happen. It was the best thing we ever used thus far.

i got a crabby in front of some grass on my tracker? Whats that grass mean?
Also did the range change at all with pokemon on the tracker? With no footprints or anything one doesnt no if its near by or far far away.

May have misunderstood what i was referring to. I wasnt talking about grass ruffeling on the map. But rather the grass on the nearby menu. Like on the bottom of this pic.

i tried turning off my phones power save features, and left the pokego battery save feature on, but it doesnt seem to be tracking my distance. I think the phone is still going off and not letting the game stay active. When i turn it on, it still has the brief moment when it has to relocate the gps signal.

Oh. That grass means...nothing. It means that pokemon likes to inhabit grass. Even saw a Gastly pictured next to it. Go figure.
JK. If I were to combine the two pictures, I'd guess that the message is that the pokemon next to the building indicates the pokemon can be found near that POI/Pokestop. This was obvious. If that's the case, we can assume the pokemon near the grass means that the pokemon is listed in the field not near any particular POI buildings and you'll have to look for it yourself in the wild.
Evidently we don't all have both views available yet, so maybe when we do they will implement a tracking in order to locate the "sighted" pokemon much more accurately, since you're literally walking around blindly. This would be my guess.
Interestingly enough, I saw an abra on my radar today with the grass patches. It ended up being right next to me. This was the only pokemon on my radar, so it was somewhat helpful. Wasted 3 ultra balls on it, because it ran away. Was 300 cp also.
Also, that god awful notification about being a passenger is really, really annoying. It even triggers at some speeds while you are riding your bike. So not needed.

Apparently the Nearby section is an interactive and clickable feature that actually allows you to click on the specific POI in your tracker and it shows exactly where it is on your map (in a zoomed out view, highlighting the pokestop that the pokemon is at in pink).
That's a really cool feature.

The battery save feature in game is horrible. My screen always freezes, but my character keeps moving. I stopped using it.
My battery save feature if im super desparate: change all settings/brightness to the lowest possible. Disable color screens (black and white). Hibernate all active apps, turn sound off. Its pretty bare bones, but it works.
Honestly, if you're having battery issues, best solution is to keep 1-2 external battery chargers and a small usb on hand at all times. Can pick one up at walmart. five below, or other cheap retailers for inexpensive. They aren't the Samsung kinds, but they get the job done when you're hurting for juice.

You can actually download a "No Screen Off" app that can prevent any timeouts on your screen, despite your phone's settings. This will not, however, override the Battery Saver option in PGO

What kind of phone are you using? :o On iPhones, the game should work the same way as a youtube video in the sense that it prevents your phone from auto-locking regardless of the delay setting.
Edit: forgot to quote. ^^;

So they just announced this:

I realize the game itself won't look anything like this until maybe a decade or two of updates, if ever. Even so, I am happy to be alive in this day and age.
For perspective, it is very reminscent but NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Google's April Fool's joke:
