, and the adjustment to the app raising the scan for new Pokemon from 5 seconds to 10.
I dont quite get that part... are you saying that the game refreshes its data every 10 seconds? So even if we're at the pokemons location, its going to take up to 10 seconds for it to pop? >< Yes? I've read people complain that those who play on bikes or public transport are getting screwed over because the time is now double.
Thats gonna start pissing me off then since I bike for my stuff ><

I read that one guy that got past unknown6 was hit with a C&D and refused to share the fix because of it.
That guy (Mila432) is acting strange. He first said he discovered it and then he wouldn't share because of the C&D. Then he said he wouldn't share because of he hated people boting. Then some other guy pasted a link where he (Mila432) was selling Pokémon accounts... then who knows.
Anyway, he complete drama/discussion is here, long read (and mostly worthless, but there is a great breakthrough already).
https://github.com/AeonLucid/POGOProtos/issues/131
[Edit: a mod just said they will start deleting irrelevant posts, so... now the Mila432 information may be gone soon).

The issue, very simplified, is that the Niantic API introduced a "new" value (called for now "unknown6") in last week's game update, but nobody payed attention to it. Yesterday, they took down their login servers for few minutes and then when the servers were back up, no scanners/bots worked anymore. People spent all night looking and found out that they added this new field, "unknown6" which SEEMS to be a kind of CRC for data verification or some other type of apparent random stuff (some people found out it was a hash tied to the date/time too). Anyway, they are in the process of cracking/discovering. The major progress is being tracked on a Gooogle doc:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1gVySwQySdwpT96GzFT9Tq0icDiLuyW1WcOcEjVfsUu4/preview
tl&dr: Niantic did an important change on their API, one that isn't easy to track but most likely it will be cracked by today. Or so we hope! :)

I passed a guy at a shopping who I over heard a rumor from that Ditto will show up as a Starting, not a Ditto. Thoughts?
Only connection I can see is both are genderless so it doesn't make much sense.
Saw this the other day: https://www.reddit.com/r/FindingDitto/comments/4vxn1p/ditto_easter_egg_solved_interview_video/

I've never seen a 1km egg and wasn't aware of it in the data, so is it a regular egg that simply hatches at 1km or is it an actual 1km egg?

I can't wait to hear about how many kids fake a complaint to Niantic in hopes of getting a 1K egg.
Kind of cool, but it would be nice to know if these eggs are just super rare, only at specific pokestops (like the new Pokémon Centers coming soon), or if it was a one-off type of deal. If its the latter, then that's pretty lame. But glad we know now.
Also, love the title change Anna.

Also, love the title change Anna. I should periodically change the title to that of other threads if the Ditto thing is confirmed by Niantic.
It's possible it was done at random to drum up positive attention after all the rage after the update.

That would seem like a very PR friendly way to boost their product a bit. However, I was actually reading and watching some videos today regarding Niantic's decision to shut down pokevision. Though the actual response was super negative, it didn't necessarily mean droves of players stopped playing. The numbers at this point don't particularly show that. So I'm not sure how Pokevision and the drama afterwards actually affected the company.
One thing we do know, though, is that they are clearly aware of the perception out there. But you're right, could definitely be a PR move.

Is there even a 1k egg in the game files?
I think with all the looking through the games coding thusfar, SOMEBODY would have noticed one...

I went to a shopping center the other day that encourages Pokemon Go and the place was packed, uncomfortably so. I had Smart Poke and saw a Golduck in a nearby neighborhood so we went and caught it then went to the park downtown.

People aren't convinced of the Ditto story. Jiko has a good point. There were probably hundreds of people complaining to Niantic (including myself). The idea that he got an egg for complaining doesn't make me feel good. If this is how we get ditto, well, damnit, I need mine for my email I sent to them.
Also, we need other people to confirm this email from Niantic thing. From my experience, they don't always respond to emails?

They get too many emails to have the time or power to respond to, even with pre-made email responses, or the filter they are using sends half of them into the bulk or spam folders. Because technology.

Also, Who's to say he didn't just buy them eggs/modules, whether prior or after this whole thing?
This whole thing reeks of hoax.

Feels like a hoax to me but apparently quite a few people saw it at a gym.

I can't say its a hoax just yet, but I can say there are holes in the story.
Here's the thing: Apparently the 1k egg does exist: it existed in the beta, and other users have reported receiving a 1k egg from support (some people got ordinary pokemon like Scyther and such, another got Articuno). Apparently Niantic is claiming this was a mistake and was removing any legendary pokemon hatched from 1k eggs.
What I'm reading now is, the code is not fully decrypted, just spliced together from what they could find. So they cannot confirm or deny that 1k eggs do exist in the actual game, but other users are saying it existed in beta. So I don't know what to make of that.
Why does the conspiracy theory in me feel like Niantic purposely sent out those eggs randomly and "took them back" in order to change the discussion from "pokemon tracking sucks" to "I just had an articuno and ditto in my pokedex".

I assume, if the 1km egg truly does exist, it's basically a promotional item that is a 10km egg that has a chance of hatching Ditto or something like that.

According to the players who have received it (and this is anecdotal), the 1km egg is actually an egg that can "reportedly" spawn any pokemon. Don't know how true this is, but again, I've read of people getting Exxegcute, Scyther, Articuno, and now Ditto, from the 1km egg. The data mining apparently never included the egg data, so we only know of the eggs that we could actually find at pokestops.
The egg could very well exist in the game, however, could have been later planned for an event type of reward of some sort (like a Christmas giveaway). The fact that everyone who hatched a 1km egg is now claiming Niantic removed the hatched pokemon could certainly lead you to think it was inadvertently released earlier than expected and they don't want to give it away this early.
Man, I have really been on a conspiracy theory type deal all day. I need a beer.

I haven't even saw any evidence of a 1km egg, just people claiming they had one. Is there a screenshot of one somewhere?

Still looking Jiko... I'll post what I find.
Funny - someone entered the Ditto's values into the Pokémon Assistant IV calculator and found nothing returned. So there's also that.
Apparently there are values for the pokemon that he posted.

For how unusual it is, IF someone was given a 1km egg, I'd guarantee there'd be a screenshot somewhere. :(

Its getting harder for me to believe this is a fake. If it is, this guy literally studied everything properly:
-The moveset matches exactly what Ditto has in the code
-His CP value matches what appears on Pokémon Assistant
-The amount of Candy he received from hatching an eg is 32, which is consistent with hatching an egg of a pokemon for the first time (I got 32 for hatching my magmar)
-His CP is filled almost to the tip and the cost to upgrade is 2500 stardust (consistent with a pokemon at that particular bend of the arc)
-The gym battle and screenshot seem legit, though these could totally have been photoshopped (since we don't actually see Ditto in the video)
We actually just need to see the pokedex to basically confirm if this is accurate. But yes, im just as skeptical as others. But I'm in the middle.
Edit: the pokédrx entry exists

It's in the pokedex of his, but that is all client side. Just like you done, he could very easily find out the exact stats of what a ditto could be by brute forcing it (or, using some formulas if he wanted to really get into it).
There was an Articuno photo in a gym that turned out to be fake ( Full article shown here). These people could do the same exact thing. There's too many things thusfar that people have done that these hackers are redoing with a bit of a twist.
Edit: That Articuno turned out to be a Vaporeon. Forgot to mention that.

I read that entire article. Nothing in it proved the Articuno was fake, or in fact, a Vaporeon. If possible, post the passage so I can see it.
They did hint at the possibility of the dat modifying of a pokemon (Like Changing Vaporeon into Moltres, all Vaporeons seen would then become moltres), but that would require each person to dat mod their specific pokemon into the faked version.
Not out of the realm of possibility, but the article doesn't show the proof.

Hmm. might have pulled up the wrong one then. gimme a sec, I saw it the other day.
Edit: I can't find the article again, but I have found a few articles that said Niantic responded to them saying that no Articuno "gift" was sent out. I'll keep searching.

So many conflicting stories. I'm getting frustrated by all this.
So they just announced this:

I realize the game itself won't look anything like this until maybe a decade or two of updates, if ever. Even so, I am happy to be alive in this day and age.
For perspective, it is very reminscent but NOT TO BE CONFUSED with Google's April Fool's joke:
