Quote: DEMOCRATS INTRODUCE BILL TO BAN ‘HUSBAND’ AND ‘WIFE’ AS ‘ANTI-GAY’ WORDS
"Gendered terms" would be removed from federal law
Fresh off the Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage, Democrats in California have introduced a bill that would ban the words “husband” and “wife” from being used in federal law because they are “gendered terms” and discriminate against gay people.
The words husband and wife were deleted from California state law last year in order to accommodate same sex marriage.
Under new legislation proposed by over two dozen Democrats, that same rule would be applied federally. The bill, introduced by Rep. Lois Capps, D-Calif, would introduce new “gender-neutral” terms such as “spouse” or “married couple.”
“The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act recognizes that the words in our laws have meaning and can continue to reflect prejudice and discrimination even when rendered null by our highest courts,” Capps said. “Our values as a country are reflected in our laws. I authored this bill because it is imperative that our federal code reflect the equality of all marriages.”
Capps said that amending the language used was necessary to reflect “the equality of all marriages” following last month’s Supreme Court ruling on gay marriage that mandated all states to license same sex marriages.
“Now that compulsory gay marriage is the law of the land thanks to the U.S. Supreme Court, liberals are reaching out from that decision to see where else they can force the gay lobby’s agenda on the country,” writes Warner Todd Huston.
Meanwhile, a Toledo Municipal Court judge who refused to marry a same sex couple because of his religious beliefs is seeking an advisory opinion from the Ohio Supreme Court on whether he can opt out of performing gay marriages.
“On Monday, July 6, I declined to marry a non-traditional couple during my duties assignment. The declination was based upon my personal and Christian beliefs established over many years. I apologize to the couple for the delay they experienced and wish them the best,” Judge C. Allen McConnell, a Democrat, said in a statement.
Gay group Equality Toledo said the couple were “humiliated” by the incident, despite the fact that they were married by another judge shortly afterwards.

"Banned" is probably the wrong term to use and go about it, as they are not offensive terms or anything. But it's natural that from a juridical perspective the terminology requires to be redefined as it does not apply to gay couples.

yeah i don't think husband or wife offends either. Couldnt same sex couple still identify with the terms husband and wife if one claims to be more masculine or feminine ?

If people stay on topic and it doesn't devolve into insults and infighting, no reason it can't stay.

Capps Introduces Bill to Update Entire Federal Code to Reflect Marriage Equality
Quote: In light of the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling that same-sex couples have a constitutional right to marry and that states have an obligation to perform same-sex marriages, Rep. Lois Capps (CA-24) introduced a bill to ensure that the United States Code reflects the equality of all marriages.
The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act of 2015 would strike the use of gendered terms such as “husband” and “wife” from the federal code and replace them with more gender-neutral terms, such as “spouse” or “married couple.”
The Amend the Code for Marriage Equality Act recognizes that the words in our laws have meaning and can continue to reflect prejudice and discrimination even when rendered null by our highest courts,” Capps said. “Our values as a country are reflected in our laws. I authored this bill because it is imperative that our federal code reflect the equality of all marriages.”
The proposed legislation would not only ensure that the code reflects marriage equality, but it could also make several positive changes to the U.S. Code by removing areas of gender discrimination written into federal law. For instance, it is currently illegal to threaten the President’s wife – but not the President’s husband. Capps’ bill would update the code to make it illegal to threaten the President’s spouse. The bill would correct a number of these types of discrepancies in the code.
The bill currently has 23 original cosponsors.
It's not a ban on these words, it's updating federal law to reflect the new legal status.
Something you want done after supreme court rulings so when people read the laws they are supposed to abide by there is limited confusion (hopefully).
Personally, I wish the states and federal government would do this with all laws ruled null. Would decrease the amount of stupid and illegal laws (e.g. Some blue code laws) that are still present in federal and state statues.

It's not discrimination against gay people, it's discrimination based on gender.
Is there any reason why laws should use gender-specific terms (e.g. "husband" or "wife") with regards to any law? Because anywhere "husband" is in a law, it should be interchangeable with "wife" in any event.
Moving to a gender-neutral term removes gender distinction in the law, and makes the law simpler. BOTH of which are a good thing.

The Huffington Post thread was designed to make fun of it. Does that mean we can do the same for Infowars? I'd be all for that.

Quote: The BBC's Sunday Politics show is generally a rather sedate affair, heavy on serious interviews and light on controversy. But viewers were treated to a highly charged confrontation between host Andrew Neil and US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, which saw the latter labelled the worst person to be interviewed on the show and an idiot.
The shock jock had been invited on the show alongside journalist David Aaronovitch to discuss the secretive Bilderberg conference, which has been taking place near Watford over the past week.
But having been asked on several occasions to let his co-guest speak, Jones launched into a tirade about several conspiracy theories detailed on his website.
He was cut off by Neil, but when he continued to rant, the presenter said: "You are the worst person I've ever interviewed," before thanking Aaronovitch and continuing with the show.
With Jones's shouts still audible, the presenter looked into the camera and said: "We have an idiot on the programme today," before using hand gestures to indicate that Jones was insane.
...
Taking to Twitter after the show Neil said Jones had played up for the camera. "The moment Alex Jones knew he was no longer on air he stopped," he wrote. Jones is renowned for his "shock jock" tactics and came to the attention of the British public after calling for Piers Morgan to be deported from the US for his views on gun control.

Just so people are aware, Alex's lucrative radio career basically ran as a parody segment for ten minutes in the form of the "Alex Jones Freedom Nugget" in Austin on a classic rock station in the mid to late 2000's before InfoWars became "popular".
As many conspiracy theories as Alex Jones could spit out in that ten minutes juxtaposed to Zombie James Brown, Homeless Karaoke, SNATCH (stopping negative Austinites through cocked-halfedness) and a myriad of other silly segments.
I still can't believe people take Alex Jones seriously. :/

Quote: Who Wants to Crackdown on Immigration Freeloaders?
Presidential candidate Donald Trump has been hit in the pocketbook for daring to exercising his freedom of speech. He has lost tens of millions of dollars in response to his politically incorrect yet factually correct comments about illegal immigration.
The establishment media is notorious for ignoring important political issues by concentrating on individual takedowns, but they'd also like you to forget that some pretty powerful democrats used to agree with Donald Trump.
