What is the deal with Vivi? I see a lot of people opting to level him as a magic user but his versatility is ***. All he has is 5* black magic and nothing else. Is there something I'm missing?

Vivi has a niche. Him and Lulu sacrifice defense for offense. If you are newer and looking for a Blm he will offer you the most offensive power. Not only is his MAG higher than any other characters but Lulu, he has a default SB that gives Faith. As a newer player with no uniques and only 3* nukes, he will be the hardest hitting Blm you can find usually by a decent margin. The versatility doesn't matter much just because you only use him as a Blm.

It's interesting to watch the decline of Vivi, when the game was newer he was rated the best Blm in the game because it takes time to get better Blms. On the Reddit tier lists Vivi was originally the 2nd best rated character behind Cloud, then the 4th best once Terra came out, now he's rated 13th and had the highest "Decline" of any character on the tier list.

I used Vivi a LOT before I got access to 4* nuke hones, unique SBs, things like Full Break, and MC2s. I don't think I've used Vivi outside of maybe RS events in quite a while now. Personally ignoring RS my current mage picks are Terra > Rinoa > Vanille > Ashe > Hope > then maybe Vivi/Lulu.

Techinically Vanille isn't a BLM. She's "Healing Magic" with access to 3* black magic. :x

Yup, Exdeath and Fusoya are great mages in terms of versatility.

I guess I meant nuker in general, Vanille gets 4* black so as long as you don't Meteor/Flare it's not really a difference. I have her SBs is why I use her, she also is the best nuker in FF13 realms as well as Hope even if they are actually sages.

My bad, she is 4* black magic. I remember awhile back I was looking for healers with access to black magic before I actually got into ultimate dungeons. But, yeah, not saying the versatility isn't nice, was just noting. XD

Just did a count of how far I am into Springfest, been burning Stamina as it comes, used a few mythril on resets. So far I have 2 LVL. 80 characters, 27 LVL. 65 characters, and 3 LVL. 50 characters.

I'm loving all this EXP, lol.

I can't wait for this ultimate :| I really want to try Edward now that I have his Harp. I think it is going to be a MASSIVE difference in my ability to clear ultimates.

Highest base MAG mage, tied w/Lulu. Having only BLM is not that bad either. What else would you be running on a glass cannon? If anything, his pathetic defenses and low HP are a greater concern.

Until you get high level summons on hone, a BLM with two spells is sufficient for most content. Especially when one of those spells is an AOE.

Defense is also way more valuable now, since ultimates are almost entirely about defense and not kill speed. At one time defense did not matter as much and that was when Vivi was popular.

Between Vivi and Lulu, I would prefer Lulu as her SB Focus is amazing (that stacks with others magic boost ability) and her upcoming SSB is stronger than any Vivi has so far.

Focus is really really good, if you have Focus and need the MAG Lulu goes from being a weaker Vivi in a time when Vivi isn't good to the best Blm. As far as just Vivi vs Lulu without any uniques though (which is where he is most popular) Vivi is leaps and bounds better.

His SSB? Free +10 attack!

Any BLM currently with access to 5* BLM will be able to use 6*

Every Black Mage that can use 5* Black Magic.

It's basically a new (excessively drawn out) way to power creep.

Also, the stage thats harder than Ultimate bosses, with a more complex AI and unique kind of synergy (not related to realm but to abilities).

Nah, it's about actually performing the mechanics and having proper hones. Decently leveled Black Mages help, of course.
