Whats the deal with JP players and that piggie-lookin emote?
Every time I see a line in Whitegate thats written in Squiggly, there is a piggy emote at the end.

While I've been told the :3 face is supposed to be smiling, my friends and I have always thought of it as the "tea-bag" face...And proceed to do so when someone dies, especially in dynamis.

I use <.< and >.> a lot just because people take the game to seriously and it's hard to distinguish someones tone of voice if you don't use faces. So it kind've shows that your jk'n or being serious, at least imo

I have a bad habit adding exclamation marks where they don't belong! Like that one episode of Seinfeld! Texts are meant to be short and concise anyway, though. lol

:3 is a cat face. Also means traits pertaining to a cat, such as playfulness and mischievousness. Especially mischievousness when it comes from the ladies.
I like most faces however, unless it's normal emotes with a semicolon instead of a colon, ***'s annoying. For example ";o" instead of ":o".

I read once that the JP version of the game has an extra emoticon feature that has all those preset so that JPs can communicate more easily. Honestly, after staring at the trainwreck of a written language and being unable to fathom how it could even be converted to a typable format, I don't blame 'em at all for adding it.
PS: The "balls" are supposed to be an animal smiley. Stare at the lip make-up of a cat or dog and you'll see that there's a split in the middle. The 3 (or sometimes w, or omega, as the JPs use) is attempting to emulate this look, 'cause everyone knows cats and dogs are irresistibly cute.

You can install a custom "kaomoji" dictionary into IME to use with FFXI. I think they even provide custom dictionaries as well. IME's just neat that way, and we can use it too, but it needs Windower.

I don't post often but (//.-) look at it you will get it.
Surely there's a ton of people who have those emotes that bother the shit out of you? Just had a conversation with a friend about this and it seemed like perfect forum material! I think my biggest are *.*, ^_^, and =] - they mostly just bother me because of the people I knew who used them way too often which eventually led to the creation of this thread.
Also the "subtle hitting on you" ;) and the way people will say really passive-aggressive things and throw smilies at the end. Pyopee on Seraph did that shit constantly and it drove me crazy! (also caused a slight hate for all mithra, but that's a totally different thread!)
