I couldn't post the picture where they complained about him kissing his wife on stage, something that is not allowed at the school

Kissing isn't allowed at school?

Public display of affection is not allowed.

Lol, what is so disrespectful about having a nominee speak at a required chapel session?

Nothing wrong with a nominee speaking.

Requiring students to attend is.

How so?

I was required to listen to a liberal US Representative speak at my school, and yet, nobody at my school were disrespectful towards him.

If kissing his wife is considered a scandal in that school, then that school is obviously well off.

In college you were required to listen to a politicians speech for his/her campaign?

Yes, that was also disrespectful.

You do not get it... I attend Cal Baptist University and as part of the program here if you are going Full Time you are REQUIRED to attend Chapel Service. The get all kinds of people to come out and do talks.

All they need to do is get him to come during a scheduled chapel service, and this talk of 'required to attend' goes out the window.

That university is a christian school, so i will presume it has chapel service requirements just like CBU

The only politician I remember speaking at my school, was in middle school.

There was a certain, don't be an *** vibe about it. Who knew many years later I would had have back and forth email correspondences with the guy who is now apart of appropriations committee in DC.

Requiring your students to attend a politicians campaign speech is the opposite of political freedom. Especially for a presidential nominee who is campaigning on freedom and liberty...

Or do you not understand political freedom?

Having it during a required chapel service (which I don't know why you are advocating that either) or requiring it at a different time makes no difference, it is still a requirement. As in they have to be there and obviously some did not want to listen to this.

Not his campaign, just how great he is and how he saved the world from the evil Republican overlord, Bush.

Sad thing is, that was his exact speech.....

Then miss the session obviously! I do not buy this required bs for a second. Again at CBU you are required to attend 15/19 sessions... thats 4 sessions you can afford to miss. If it is a session of some kind outside the normal schedule, then it would most likely be extra credit. In either situation just ditch the damn session!

Why am I advocating that required chapel sessions are ok? IT WAS PART OF THE AGREEMENT TO GET INTO THE SCHOOL IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!! You don't like it? GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

Let me rephrase it:

If there were people in my school disrespectful towards him, they did not do so on Facebook, Twitter, or any other social media outlet. They may have been disrespectful verbally and privately, but not publicly. If they have, that would have been a big scandal at my school, since school image is everything.

He is just another speaker, who cares. Walk out, don't attend if it bugs you that much. I gurantee at least the majority could care less, a small minority were the ones that hated him and another small minority that like him. It is a Christian University so by default the ones who like him easily outweigh those that don't

You have to realize WHICH school your talking about. Private Universities and State Universities operate differently. If this was University of Virginia or something then the complaints your speaking of would be ENTIRELY justified. But because it is a Private University the rules work a little differently.

According to the website all convocations require attendence of three times a week. I assume there must be exemptions for illiness and deaths, but not listed.

A student states that you receive four reprimands and a fine of $10 if you can't attend.

Pivoting back to taxes and fiscal policy....

Any of you young whippersnappers ever heard the term "long term capital gains?"

We used to tax capital gains at different rates depending on how long the asset was held. Many economists have said that stopping this practice is part of why our corporations look little further ahead than the next quarterly report.

One of the ways this country is being bleed to the benefit of the .001% and the detriment of the rest of us is through high speed trading.

Easy way to stop high speed trading is through a variable, time based, capitol gains tax.

Hold something for less than 24 hours and the gains should be taxed at 200%. With no loss write off provision.

We could get real for stuff held for one week to one year and tax that at 50%, sliding to 40% for 1 - 2 years, 30% for 2 - 3 years, 25% for 3 - 5 years.

Want 15%? hold it for over 5 years.

------------------

After reading that article you linked... sounds to me like a student who just likes making the news.... "I am going to go to this Christian University when I have other choices available, upon accepting to be a student I have to sign this Waiver that States I HAVE TO attend Convocation. After I am accepted I will then proceed to ignore that Waiver I signed and protest having to attend Convocation. Also I will protest things that are clearly the school and the majority of students stance such as doing Pro Abortion protests!"

yah, that student is an idiot

This is a simple concept.

Requiring attendence of students for a political campaign speech is disgusting. It would be disgusting from any canidate.

Whether the majority of students like him or not it goes against political freedom.

Going to a private school does not mean you give up political freedom.

As to the reprimands and fine you can click the link
Quote:
I strongly object to Senator Cruz's choice of venue for the announcement of his 2016 presidential bid: as is well-known by Liberty University students but considerably less well-known by the general public, all students are required to attend convocation every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Sen. Cruz is a friend of the Liberty University administration and has spoken at convocation in the past. As such, he knows that all students are required to be in attendance. I bear no ill will toward Sen. Cruz, but his choice to announce his 2016 presidential bid at convocation at Liberty University is a starkly deceptive one. Should the general public be unaware that all students are required to attend convocation, it would seem to the average viewer (as this will be televised and is already being widely publicized) that 10,000 supporters came to Liberty University to hear Sen. Cruz's announcement. However, every student in attendance has no say in the matter. Students will either attend convocation and lend to the illusion of widespread support for Sen. Cruz, or they will be subject to administrative punishment--specifically, four reprimands and a $10 fine--if they are absent. While Sen. Cruz has every right to run for president and to announce his candidacy, it is a highly deceptive, albeit politically savvy, move on Sen. Cruz's part to make his big announcement here. I do not support this action, and I am not alone in my belief that such deception is wrong.
