It's 4chan. You should know better than to trust their claims. We have confirmation.

nowhere does it state PS4 is getting an expansion. the expanded content through this November will be on all platforms, and SE has said that after March they will only support the PC with balance and bug fixes. there is also no mention of upgrading the graphics or UI since those are outside the realm of said balance and bug fixes. did you not read the translation SE put out, or what?
No, I didn't. I said I didn't. I bolded it for you. Buddy says it was in the live stream. Not sure why he would lie about that, but maybe he misheard

I thought they said FFXI would continue? Just not on Xbox and PS2?

This really makes me remember this video.

This really makes me remember this video.
I had never seen this before .. but it brought back a flood of memories from when I used to be an "adventurer" with my linkshell back in the day.

direct from the horse's mouth, a highlights reel for you:
Quote: "FINAL FANTASY XI's major version updates will conclude with the implementation of the final chapter of Rhapsodies of Vana'diel, but there will continue to be minor version updates that address bugs and contain various balance adjustments.
Further, PlayStation®2 and Xbox 360® service will cease in March 2016." since we are in the realm of just bug fixes/balance issues, we can be pretty sure that this is the end of just about everything notable
Quote: "FINAL FANTASY GRANDMASTERS: A New Online RPG for Smartphones Set in the World of Vana'diel" - just ignore this completely unless you live in Japan, as it is not slated to be released anywhere else as of now.
Quote: "A Native App Project Providing A Full-Fledged FINAL FANTASY XI Experience on the Mobile Platform" - this could either be interesting or terrible. we'll need to wait and see, but anything mobile already puts me on my guard.
SE was very quick to have a translation ready and posted on the official site, I'd ignore everything that other sources have to say on the matter until SE contradicts themselves.

When I was banned last year I was fishing Haks on the Glacier coast. Considering I spent most of my final year/year-and-a-half there, I thought that was fitting enough.

Hmm, hard to say where I'll finally log. I expect to be around for a year to finish off some quests and the new scenario.
I'll probably even try the mobile version, just to see how it turns out. With my schedule, short bursts on mobile could actually work well for me, if it is decent (admittedly a pretty big "if").
But, when I do eventually log for the last time, I think I've settled on the Abyssean Empyreal Paradox, watching the world from above for eternity with Prishe.
Abyssea was my favorite storyline, despite it being only a battle add on. (Yes, I played this game primarily for the story and lore.) The other stories has issues or plot holes which picked away at my enjoyment.
So, it seems appropriate that (even tho Prishe is a less-than-favorite character) my character watches over a broken Vana'diel from afar, forever.
(Damn, didn't know how much this was affecting me until I typed that. Feel like a goofus crying over lunch break over a video game, but there it is. Part of the grief process, I guess.)

I would have to kill a few Orcs and Seneschal Imps, but I would log out in La Vaule [S], in front of Bellenorque Abbey.

I could be mistaken, but... honestly it sounds like you're confusing FFXI and FFXIV. FFXI is dropping the old consoles as of march, while PC and PS4 are getting an expansion for FFXIV in a few months. Going forward, so far as I'm aware, PC will be the only way to play FFXI and will not be getting super mega graphics, rather, simply the last 3 stages of it's story.
My log off spot will probably be wherever I am at the time, but if I chose one for my last place... It'd probably be the Hall of Gods or in Port Windy waiting on a boat. In my mind, my character started his adventure when a boat dropped him off in Windy one fateful day in the middle of their port. It seems quite fitting that when his adventure in that world would end, he'd take a boat once more back to his home, or his next adventure.

A lot can change in 8 months, so this thread might be a little early, but any thread with screenshots is fine by me. (b'.')b
You have to be logical when considering such things!
Consider this hideout in the Maze of Shakrami:
Pre-furnished!
All the amenities of modern living!

I have seen this video 100 times.
And I have cried 100 times from watching it.

South Sarutabaruta (S). I would stand on one of the hills there, on my favorite job (RUN), listen to the melody, /wave and /salute, then say my final goodbye to all my friends and people who I have done fights/events with.

Logging while doing logwatch. Also, need we be so morbid even before the update? How many years did people play from Heroes > announcement of Seekers? There is time left, enjoy the content that already exists and once it is released. The only one who decides the game comes to an end is you. Or SE a few years from now following multiple merges.

OMG another "oh ffxi will shut down the server" thread. we hear`d you crying guys back in 2010 when SE announced FFXIV. 90% of ppl was like "thats it,ffxi will end soon". Now 5 years laters, we are still playing it. And like Snprphnx says: it will be another 3 years. Some people need this drama I think.

I am disappointed to hear this. I just reinstalled the game from a 3-year break. I play on xbox; is there any point in coming back?

I'll be logging out in whatever zone I may happen to be in when SE kills Bismarck. This game has been a glorified chatroom for myself and my close friends who I've been playing alongside with for a decade now, and will continue to do so.
Right to the bitter end for this guy.

Solo ff11 could be fun. Maybe trusts as npcs and set gambits. Play through the scenarios. Basic gear from weapon shops but can synth better stuff and NM drops are higher %. A party of 6 with you as the leader, then you have trion and cherukiki etc.

Before I even log I would go around the places that were infamous for parties (when this happened in like 2004, 2005) and reminence just a little bit. Like a stroll through Valkurm Dunes or a walk in The Crawler's nest. In the end though I would do as my friend a long long time ago did. I would log in the Hall of the Gods. To me its a fitting place to end.

Either the hall of gods or the empyreal paradox. Always loved those 2 places.

Many of us have developed lasting friendships and had some amazing experiences in this game. Some people are drawn to specific areas for specific reasons....my question to you guys is what area would this be?
Where do you plan to log out for the very last time, remembering fondly what you experienced/shared there with friends as you hit the shut down/log out for good option?
No, this isn't a "OMG SERVERS SHUTTING DOWN" thread. It's a discussion thread about where you will log out for the last time when that time finally comes.
EDIT: @ all the "Why?" comments:
Let's be honest though. For many of us, we started playing in high school or college and are now thoroughly into adulthood. Playtime has already wizened and the chance of forging new friendships is slim compared to those who have already left.
It's going to be a very contemplative time for me and probably a majority of others and these are things that -- silly though as they may be in the context of life -- are meaningful decisions we need to consider.
