I don't really follow Texas ***all that much, but a DA is the unholy union of the two most corrupt entities on Earth. Lawyer and Government Employee. A DUI actually seems like a Mild Charge, since I'm sure she's got a backlog of Prosecutorial misconduct too.
Damn you page two! Here's a 4k resolution breakfast burrito.

So, whenever an elected official is charged with a crime they must step down?
Besides, what does it matter what the DA did, breaking more laws trying to get rid of her isn't exactly something he should be rewarded for. I'm betting if the roles were reversed, you cite it as evidence that liberals are evil as well.

I don't really know anything about Rick Perry himself, but I haven't seen a politician that wasn't a crooked *** so it's real hard to dig up sympathy. The problem is, some don't start out crooked and become so the day they are elected.

Here is the DA completely wrecked after being being picked up for a DUI and trying to use her position to get out of hit then throwing a fit.
Here she is being carted off to jail where she spent the next 45 days.
The top prosecutor needs to step down in this situation. You know this.
This (top) image will haunt me.

Isn't the grand jury something that will indict anything including a Ham Sandwich if a prosecutor wants it to?
Pretty much. The requirements of evidence are incredibly low, the prosecution only needs to show that there might be a change the person did something illegal. There is no defense yet nor any form of analysis or criticism over the quality or authenticity of the presented evidence.
As for this particular situation, it's obviously a political attack though it might stick depending on how many favors people owe him.

I can think of several other reasons he shouldn't be in his post that are much better reasons than this, albeit may not be illegal.

On point, actually, much of the heat given to this particular prosecutor was based around her office's investigation of corruption in the governor's office. Supposedly a medical research fund that is a personal favorite of Perry that's been used to encourage biotech companies to settling in Texas has been almost exclusively benefiting his large campaign contributors. The case revolves around him retaliating by vetoing her department's investigative budget for her refusal to step down immediately, instead of retiring at the end of her term.

.... The case revolves around him retaliating by vetoing her department's investigative budget for her refusal to step down immediately, instead of retiring at the end of her term. Not quite. He has a line item veto power and using it is quite legal.
The problem is he threatened to use it first. That is coercion and not legal.
He should have kept his big dumb mouth shut. One more time again.

Did you even look at why he wanted this particular DA to resign? What he did was legit.
I don't even understand why Vic cares about politics. His only concern should be who the pizza delivery boy is.
I'm sure he will try to use that as a defense, right? That will go a long way, right until the judge rules it inadmissable. It's pretty much an admission of guilt. But but, look what she did! I was totally in the right! Guilty.

Ya, that's a little more clearly explained. His veto power was threatened in order to coerce or extort.

Deflection is a pretty standard political ploy, would you have expected him to actually address the charges?

Good story explaining it all:
Peak 'Opps': Explaining the Perry Indictment - The Daily Beast
Quote: If only he’d kept his mouth shut about that district attorney. But he didn’t, and now Texas Gov. Rick Perry faces the possible end of his presidential dreams. Quote: Here's the thing about Rick Perry's indictment. The case may indeed have plenty of merit. But merit aside, you can indict a ham sandwich if it's Republican in the most liberal hotbed of Texas: Travis County. The problem for Perry is that a Travis County jury can also find a Republican ham sandwich guilty. What isn't mentioned is that this isn't a partisan attack. The special prosecutor was Republican. The two judges who authorized the special prosecutor were Republican. (I got that off NPR yesterday but amn't going to navigate their website to find it at my 7:20 AM.)

What isn't mentioned is that this isn't a partisan attack. Yeah, right.
But the problem is, it's a partisan attack on both sides.
Which is why most Texans ignore whats going on in Travis County. Unless it directly effects us that is.
Would I back Rick Perry? No, I think he is an idiot and got what is coming to him.
Because of that viewpoint, I wouldn't ignore the obvious partisan politics being played here.
I wish that Travis County would stop trying to become Washington D.C. and Hollywood.

I think the timing highly partisan. The timing, I believe, was directed by the woman at the center of this farce.
But he was indited by a Republican.
P. S. I hate trying to find anything I have heard on NPR on their website.

Lawyers are neither Republican nor Democrat, as long as they get paid.

Rick Perry for president!
Not sure what's worse, the people of Texas that kept him office since 2000, or the people of NJ for re-electing Christie.

Them's fighting words Chaos!
(apparently you do not know anything about Texas Politics, when a Republican/Democrat is elected, they generally stay elected until some oddity happens (they lose their election) or they retire).
Grand Jury indicts Rick Perry
Quote: (CNN) -- A grand jury has indicted Texas Gov. Rick Perry, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, saying he abused his power by trying to pressure a district attorney to resign.
The two felony counts against Perry, a Republican, stem from his threat to veto funding for a statewide public integrity unit run by Travis County District Attorney Rosemary Lehmberg unless she stepped down, the special prosecutor in the case, Michael McCrum, said.
Perry attorney David L. Botsford called the indictment a "political abuse of the court system." He said the action "violated the separation of powers" and "sets a dangerous precedent by allowing a grand jury to punish the exercise of a lawful and constitutional authority afforded to the Texas governor."
CNN affiliate KVUE reported that Perry will have to report to the Travis County Jail in the capital of Austin to be booked, fingerprinted and have his photo made for a mugshot.
Perry can continue to serve as governor while under indictment, KVUE reported. His attorneys could seek to have the charges thrown out, a motion that would delay the case, at the very least.
The grand jury in Travis County indicted the governor on charges of coercion of a public servant and abuse of his official capacity.
I actually didn't believe the headline when I first saw it, but its on every website, even the beloved Fox News. So this is real, its not some doomed publicity stunt *looking at you and your little lawsuit Boehner*
The failed Presidential candidate and pathetic governor of Texas is facing two felony counts of abusing power and coercion. He is going to be arrested, booked, fingerprinted, and a mugshot taken. Can't wait to see that.
Apparently he thought he could use his power to pressure an attorney to resign. I'm not surprised that he would attempt something like that due to his huge ego and lack of intellect, and living in Illinois, used to seeing governors go to jail. He is facing 99 years if convicted.
