Neocons are the killers of hope sir. I'll learn eventually.
At the very least, even if they manage to annihilate all hope I have, I will be comforted by the fact I actually give a ***about people less fortunate than myself. inb4 bootstrap myth again That's the "anyone can become an obscenely wealthy and powerful CEO if they work hard enough" ***, right? Also requires a lot of knowledge and dedication too.
But if you think that's a myth, tell that to Edward Whitacre, Jr.
He would laugh at your face and call you a fool at the same time. He'd be laughing on top of the pile of literally thousands and thousands of people who tried and failed no matter how dedicated they were or how hard they worked. Because it's a load of ***. You can't be on top if there aren't people below you. But, if what you say is a myth, that means that nobody has ever done what you consider is a myth.
Except he did do what you consider to be a myth, him and many other businessmen and women.
Every successful small to medium sized company stared out with one person's dream, and ended up being the success they are. That is literally millions of people who tried and succeeded. Just because you think life it so hard that you should have to work to survive doesn't mean that it is impossible to succeed.

Oh look, more anecdotal garbage.
Yes, it's that along with trickle-down economics, are the myths that are the backbone of the neocon ideology.
Did that one come from Urban Dictionary too?
I'm sorry that you have such vitriol for an online reference, you really should pull your nose out of your ***.
So is that a yes?
It's a "stop smelling your own ***" comment.
nothing more, nothing less.

No, that's not why it's a myth, and even more people who failed, hence why it's a myth.
People shouldn't have to work to survive in the 21st *** century.

$5.75 is woefully inadequate in some places, more than enough in others.
The act of having to actually be presentable and stable enough to be employed means in places like here in Southern California, $5.75 will not suffice. It takes a lot of money just to work, employees have overhead too you know.
But out in the middle of Dunderfuck Alabama, where rent is $400 for a 2BD/1BTH sure.

No, that's not why it's a myth. Again, if it is so rare that people consider it a myth and/or urban legend, then explain the millions of people who succeeded in starting, operating, and maintaining successful businesses.
Yeah, you can't. You don't understand how because you expect everything to be spoon-fed to you.

Let's assume rent is $400 a month, add $100 for electric, $30 for water, at $530 a month just in a place.
920-530, that'd leave $390 to pay for food, medical bills, car payments/repairs, *** if you have children, their bills, school, etc.
That is not enough money to survive on!

You don't understand why it's a myth, the success rate isn't why.
The myth is that anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps and become wealthy/successful, which is very blatantly a myth.

Yes, it is enough to survive on. Medical bills and Cars are luxury items. Don't have kids if you can't afford them. Condoms, 3.99$ for 20, Kid: $8,000 YR for 18(+) years.

Oh not to mention car/health insurance, again not luxury items.
Or a cell phone (or land line) since your work needs to be able to get a hold of you.
Internet is a necessity for a lot of jobs now, need it to enroll in benefits, or print out paystubs, etc.
You and others are woefully delusional if you don't realize that these are necessities to live and function in society.
It's also not your place to tell others to not reproduce, and the poor are more likely to, so you are really ignorant of the way the world works.

Just because you think life it so hard that you should have to work to survive doesn't mean that it is impossible to succeed. A couple millions successful people out of 300 million is still in the single digit percentile. That means an overwhelming percentage of the populace has NOT achieved that level of success. And are unlikely to. The places on top have this habit of buying out or annihilating smaller places because they can and don't share well with others.
And a again with people being forced to be productive to be allowed to exist.

No, that's not why it's a myth, and even more people who failed, hence why it's a myth.
People shouldn't have to work to survive in the 21st *** century. Since you edited, I'll clarify.
The people who failed did not understand what it takes to run a successful business. They lacked the knowledge and analytic ability to gauge their customers and their competitors to stay afloat.
Business is not for the weak hearted, and not for somebody to come in willy-nilly and expect to be successful at it. You don't open up a clothing store in the middle of the desert and expect to have people lined up all around your shop on day one.
People have to work to be successful in life, that is one of the cold hard truths of reality. To expect to survive and thrive without effort is ludicrous at best.
I wouldn't expect you to understand, seeing how you willfully stay unemployed with a kid to support. I'm guessing that either your spouse or your parents do the actual support, and I seriously hope that it's the former, not the later. Because if you depend on your parents to support and raise your kid, then you have failed as a human being and need to seriously rethink your life before your kid grows up to be just like you. Because if you have to raise your grandchildren, one who never raised a child or supported anyone in your life, then how do you expect to do so adequately?
