50 bucks an hour to flip burgers sign me up !
By Jetackuu 2014-08-28 21:06:22
1. what's wrong with a degree in communications? (I mean I can see ripping on the liberal arts degrees, and quite frankly I think they're a waste of tuition money, both by the people who get them, and by the school to "invest" in them. But that's me, and getting an actual skill.
2. Minimum wage should reflect a living wage, whatever that living wage is due to inflation (be it $15/hour or $50/hour) then so be it. Minimum wage should be about $15.75/hr. It's too low as it is. ftfy

Do burgers actually get flipped? I thought they just microwaved the patties, add some grill marks via food coloring and served it to us. That'd make my life significantly easier if that was true.
Backread a few pages. All I learned was that not being a productive member of society means you deserve to die from either exposure, starvation or illness. And I suppose your kids/family as well.
Y'know, the things that the bare necessities are required for to survive.
That's pretty ***' harsh. Who said that? The person who said people should have to work just to meet the requirements for a livable wage. Wait, if people don't work, then how can they earn a wage in the first place? The *** should they have to work to be allowed to live?
I think there's some confusion about "livable". I'm talking housing, food, clothing, water and some form of communication. I guess electricity by default? Cause cooking is a thing.
You might be including things like transportation because as things are, transportation is basically a necessity. Some people have to take jobs over an hour away from their home to support their family. Such as my uncle who lives about 1 hour and 15 minutes away from his job. And thus the jump to communism. Problem solved. Except that doesn't work, as Russia showed us.
But forcing people to work themselves to death so they/their family can barely scrape by, HOPING something else doesn't hit the fan so that they have to sacrifice one necessity for another shouldn't be a thing in the developed parts of the world.
And these are the people doing those essential jobs as well.
"Hey, do this super important job to maintain our society as we know it! But we're only going to pay you in pennies. Enjoy living miserably!"
They think that anything that isn't "free market capitalism" (or their idea of it, as we haven't used it in a long time, if really ever) is communism, you can't rationalize with neocons. I've somehow remained hopeful people will step out of their shitty little boxes on occasion.
I liked the bit where KN asked who said anything about unproductive members of society deserving to die, and then just a few posts later...
Remove the incentive of earning to survive and people will stop working.
Three guesses who, KN.

Doesn't need to be fixed. Inflation hasn't even hit 4% since 2008. 2009 actually saw negative inflation rates.
At most I'd put it at $5.80/hr but $7.25/hr is ludicrous at the moment.
You think your raising the bar for everyone, but really you're setting lower standards for everyone. And one thing America doesn't need right now is to have the bar set any lower.

Neocons are the killers of hope sir. I'll learn eventually.
At the very least, even if they manage to annihilate all hope I have, I will be comforted by the fact I actually give a ***about people less fortunate than myself.

People often confuse "caring about the less fortunate" and "screwing over those who work hard to support those who don't".

He'd be laughing on top of the pile of literally thousands and thousands of people who tried and failed no matter how dedicated they were or how hard they worked. Because it's a load of ***. You can't be on top if there aren't people below you.
And the people below number in the hundred millions.
