Donald Trump is not a joke: A warning to Americans from an Italian who survived Berlusconi
Quartz
Openers:
Quote: Donald Trump is hilarious, you guys.
The Republican presidential candidate literally went from being that guy trolling the world on Twitter to being that guy trolling the Grand Old Party’s campaign. He says he’ll build a wall between the United States and Mexico and it will be huge and Mexico will pay for it and America will be great again. His sexism is nauseating, his ignorance cringe-worthy, his conduct baffling. He provides more memes, gifs, jokes and video games than one could possibly have time for.
And he really is winning.
In advance of the South Carolina primary on Sunday, a joke circulated online asking women if they’d have sex with Trump, if it meant he’d drop out of the race. My answer would be “no” for at least three reasons:
I am not an American citizen, and this is not the kind of thing one should even remotely consider doing for a foreign country.
Even if Trump dropped out of the race, what would we do about the people who support his brand of hatred? Would they give up their claims to US citizenship, too?
I’ve heard this question before.
Well, not exactly this question. As an Italian citizen, I have heard different variations on this question–with former prime minister Silvio Berlusconi subbing in for the Donald.... There's lots more.
Dedicated to our Italian posters.
In between the mafia and bruschetta there lies Italy !

The money shot is this, and I've never seen anything like it:
Quote: While still hopeful that Mr. Rubio might prevail, Mr. McConnell has begun preparing senators for the prospect of a Trump nomination, assuring them that, if it threatened to harm them in the general election, they could run negative ads about Mr. Trump to create space between him and Republican senators seeking re-election. Mr. McConnell has raised the possibility of treating Mr. Trump’s loss as a given and describing a Republican Senate to voters as a necessary check on a President Hillary Clinton, according to senators at the lunches.
Think about that! The GOP might run attack ads against its own candidate. Super Tuesday is going to be amazing.
They still don't get it. The republican voter base that's pissed at them far outweighs the base that loves them.

Well, if Trump was seeking to appear even more anti-establishment, that would do it. Maybe someday people will realize the only true way to defeat Trump is to ignore him. Democrats, Republicans, news media, bloggers, etc. are all trying to put out a fire with gasoline. They've been trying the same tactics for months and yet still manage to stand around looking like slack-jawed idiots when, SURPRISE!, it all backfires.
But hey, go ahead Republican Senators. Take all that anger being directed against the Washington status quo by your constituents and... fight against it? Erm, okay, good luck with that.

That's what blows my mind the most! This plan is utterly doomed to failure; you are practically guaranteeing a Democratic president with a supportive Congress.

My hunch says there's plenty of people out there that are pissed enough to put trump into office. If I had enough stones I would go out there and start parroting the fed up things trump says and get myself a house seat by riding the wave.

I dunno about guaranteeing a Democratic president, because I think it would actually help Trump. The senators would be shooting themselves in the foot, though. We'll see if they actually follow McConnell, who is starting to look like every other idiot leader in Congress that we've had for years.

Sure. But weakening party support hurts in general, even just with things like get-out-the-vote efforts. GOTV is the one thing the party apparatus is really useful for, and you better believe the Dems will be pounding the pavement like mad to stop President Trump.
So, I could see it helping Trump's image, but not necessarily his results.

They're gonna have to pound it pretty hard after they rig Sanders out of a popular vote win for Clinton who's under federal investigation.

Fair enough. I guess we'll see how it all plays out. Either way, having McConnell look like the guy that's throwing in the towel before the fight has even begun isn't going to do much for his image or his results.

This is so true. Any candidate that Mitch and Cruz hate goes up about 20 percent on my list by default, regardless of party.

Maine Governor Endorses Trump: ‘He Could Be One Of The Greatest Presidents’
Daily Caller. Reliably on the right.
Quote: Republican Maine Governor Paul LePage officially endorsed Donald Trump for president Friday.
Following the lead of Chris Christie — the man he previously supported in the primary — LePage said during an interview on “The Howie Carr Show” that both governors agreed “we could do a lot worse” than a President Trump.
“We could have another Obama in there or Hillary Clinton, and we can’t afford that,” the governor stated.
But LePage didn’t seem to just endorse The Donald because he was a better alternative to Clinton.
“He’s the only candidate who’s showing a vision for the future,” he said. “He’s a businessman. I’m a businessman… I think he could be one of the greatest presidents if he sits down and puts together a good team.”
It may seem like a natural choice for the Maine governor to endorse the New York billionaire as both men have a reputation for being politically incorrect and unapologetic about it.
Just this year, LePage has claimed out-of-state drug dealers with names like “D-Money” are impregnating white girls in his state. He later demanded that the guillotine be used against those same drug dealers.
And last week, LePage said the greatest threat to Maine were asylum seekers because they’re bringing AIDS and the “ziki fly” to the New England state. LePage is well in the running for craziest chief executive ever BTW.

You know, I've had a scary thought here lately; "What if Trump got in office and actually did some good?"
I'm in no way for Trump, but the curiosity is there playing hide & seek with a slight hint of optimism. >.>
I'm scared.

How can they have racism in Maine? I mean there's maybe 5 blacks in the entire state. Unless you mean racist against Indians.
True story, I have a friend who was raised at the air force base near El Paso in the '50s. She was once asked if there was much prejudice against blacks there and then. "Oh heavens no, that's what we had Mexicans for."

Hillary is drawing in more blacks to vote than Obama. This is good for the Hilldog machine.

Bernie is leading with younger blacks, but behind in total black support.
In other races, any Democrat FAR put polls any Republican with asians and hispanics.
