Hi guys,
I've been giving it some thought and I'd really like to get back into FFXI. The only thing I'm worried about is the amount of players online. Are the servers dead? Can anyone on Cerberus tell me the average of online players? Do you think its time SE should merge servers again?

Yeah it's dead, but we mummified the corpse so we can keep pretending it isn't and still attract visitors. It's like a museum.

Do people really consider coming back to a decade old game? I obviously don't play or look at forums like Evercrack and PSO but do they get threads like this daily too or is the answer just as obvious as it should be here?
(as in play it if you like it, it's never worth coming back unless you miss it once you've fallen behind and broken the addiction.)

There are so many of these threads you would figure people would get there answer with just that alone... I would play this game even if I was the only person online .

Depends on the person, to me it's dead, they beat the ***out of it to the point that it's a hollow husk of what it used to be.
Then there are people that think it's hot ***, or just don't want to admit it's turning bad (personal opinion obviously) Best suggestion is to play it for a month (really give it a week) and see if you enjoy it, at worst you wasted ... what is it .. $15?) at best you find out you want to keep playing.

It's fun as hell. Don't even need rl people to party with. Got NPCs instead. Just need to increase the amount in party and better control over their actions and the game will be set for all of eternity.

I'm waiting for Japan to pull out a VR Machine and create a SaO type incident where I get stuck inside...
So I'm not sure my opinion on the state of this game has merit on account of crazy.

I don't know if I'd say it's worth if it you live in Europe. There's an awful lot of nothing happening in those hours.

I've reactivated when the answer is no, and I've quit pretty promptly. If I have a goal I'll stay til that goal is completed, and maybe a few others will pop up along the way. Are you returning because you want to play with specific people and you KNOW that they still play and that you'll be able to play with them on a regular basis? If so, yes. If not, no. The game is still the same really. I have been playing a very long time and it's still the same game to me. Unless you are talking about NM camping specifically, what is it that isn't the same? You still have sidegrades from all different content, things you can solo, things you can team up for and mini-games.

I enjoy playing the windower ffxi metagame at the moment, and that is an option that was much less accessible in the past.

Way way to many of these posts, the game has changed a lot some things are not great but there's some nice touchs to. Just all depends what kind of player you are the type what is self motivated or the other kind what stands in town doing nothing and cries all day. I'm bored nothing to do Omg there's more then enough to do even after 11 or 12 years just have to look for it.

Even the grind is fun now.
FFXI is great IF you can find people to do stuff with. Are servers less populated? Yes. But to do the majority of content you need 6 or less people. If you can find some people with your playtime and want to do content it can be extremely fun.
Just spend the $13 reactivate and try it out. See if you can find a shell/friends to do content with. You'll know by the end of the month whether you like it or not. So different ;x Hey guys, is it worth coming back to Pacman?? I used to play it back in the days, but I wonder if it's changed much.
