How Did You Choose Your Character Name?

I channeled my spirit animal.

Was supposed to be Plebeian or Pleb but those were taken so had to get creative with spelling. Buttermonkey was my first character in 11 and was an amalgam of two random words that sounded funny together. Rodriguez is his surname in 14 because he's Hispanic, duh.

My first character I ever created was named Veruna, it was a different spelling of Varuna, a MAG from Phantasy Star Online.

As for my second character, Zorah (my main name for other characters after that), I love the Zora race from Zelda, and I always thought it was a pretty name.

As for Applebottoms, I was switching back to Valefor from Titan server and I wanted to change my name, so one of my friends at the time suggested Applebottoms (because she was Elvaan and as a joke), but I decided to go with it because why the hell not.

Not one regret about that choice ever.

I started the game when I was like 10 lol, so I didn't have much creativity. I wanted to use my first name >_> but it was already taken, so I just used my middle name! bam

My first character in 2004-2006 was Lorelei, after the German poem about a siren in the Rhine. I had a mule named Lux after Lux Lisbon from the book 'The Virgin Suicides'. I started from scratch in 2010 because of a persistent nudge from a couple of friends from HS (who were the reason I picked XI up in the first place when we all scattered during college), and chose the name Zahrah since the original spelling Zara what already taken. IIRC it's Greek for little light or sun, something along those lines.

In XIV, I decided to get silly with it and chose Hotboxin MrsMcGiblets, because we were gabbing about 'The League' in Ni.

All the good pokemon names were taken.

Reason: You know why they call me Thax? Because I cut down the competition (insert chopping motion here)

Made mine up on the spot after creating the character, just sounded right. Few ls friends said it sounded spanish so I decided to look it up, and it's the name of a small fishing port in Spain /shrug

Well, "Zahra" is also Arabic for "flower"!

For my oral exam in German last year I had to recite "Die Lorelei".

I work second or third shift always have so I sleep more during the day an always ups at night an for long time wish I would never see the daylight so I wanted a immortalmoon.

I just went with my last name

Would've gone with my email address, but Leocorn sounds dumb...so dropped the R. 10 years later, here we are.

Funny story, once pissed someone off in Crawler's Nest and they sent me a tell calling me "Leocorn", I assume they meant it as making fun of my name, though little did they know... heh.

Namingway actually helped me with this one when I first created my character. I did consider many different options before finally deciding but for whatever reason Aydogan resonated with me.

That was a good 10 years ago now, and although some might consider it a bit silly, I hold this name near and dear and have been campaigning to my wife to give it to our first born boy (whenever that comes - she still needs convincing). Some folks be all like "OMG y wuld u name ur kid after a video game, NERD!" But when considering the time I've invested into this game or into RPGs over my lifetime, this name holds more significance and sentiment than any other and always provokes a sense of nostalgia, not to mention it'd be unique and works well shortened (Aydo, Ayd). It also has Turkish origins to my understanding.

I actually was going to use Namari, since that is the name I kinda default to in many games, but it was taken (not surprised since I did read that it meant something in a couple of languages; it's really a very condensed version of my first and middle name). And Ivy was way too short not to be taken, and I wanted something pronounceable or at least shortened. I'm not sure where the "Kyori" part came in, but it kinda had a nice ring to it (apparently it means something in Japanese, I can't remember what though). Sooo...Ivykyori it was.

Sehaliah was supposed to be my guardian angel according to angelology. I don't believe in that stuff, but I thought it sounded cool and so that's the first nickname I used on internet. People however mispelled it all the time so after a while pretty much everyone just called me Seha for simplicity, and so Seha became almost like a second name.

-chan is just a japanese suffix for little girls, when I started FFXI I was still in my japan-fangirl phase ._. coming back I wouldn't use it!

I came up with the name Onorgul back when I was about 9 years old and have used it as the name of (most of) my avatars in video games ever since.

Excluding one name I got from the random name generator in Neverwinter Nights (or was it Knights of the Old Republic?), all of my names have been me jamming syllables together 'til I find one I like, actually.

When i was like 11 or 12 Toonami or Adult swim... i can't seem to remember perfectly (someone help me out lol) use to play a great show called Trigun and Legato was the main Villain :/ i'm not a bad guy though lol i just empathized with him ;o! Trigun was great!

lol around the same time i made my char a hume name Legado started the game around the exact same time 11 years ago lol we were great friends.

Originally Ragnar of Hades, short lived character, had to start over to play with a RL friend on Kujata. Ragmar was born as back then you could not have the same name as someone on another server and names were stored for like 90 days on the servers. Ragnar is from Dragon Warrior IV one of my all time fave games.

I was always known as that pikachu girl in high school since I always had pikachu pins and my friends liked to borrow them and junk. Went to a friends house to start playing 11 together and he suggested chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu. I just hit a few uuus and I was set. Chu chu was a random beta character name that stuck. I made many beta characters with many random *** names.

From Cerberus originally, was known as Morticia (The Addams Family). When I transferred to Odin, that name was taken so I chose Camillenoire, from Clive Barker's Tortured Souls series. Apparently, my name resembles that of rapper Chamillionaire. Or so I've been told. Received many tells asking if I rap or if he's my fave rapper... -.-
