Why not make a new Post on Experiences as a noob in FFXI who helped you? Who taught you the tele points got your sub job items... I think there are some interesting stories to be heard across Vana 'diel, you're right all in all we're all more or less "older" players now and like the poster above some are trolls who want 5 minutes of check me fame on the site here for saying something negitive - but most of us inside are still the bright eye little red question marks running through the starter zones and staring at the trees - being perfectly happy not knowing about Sea Sky Dynamis what CoP stands for or what it means to earn a relic or that someday we would be trying to figure out the math of how to floor AV and PW (and what those accronyms stand for) for us now it's all about the memories well not for us.. it's just how I feel I can hope you all feel the same make the years here well spent.

I posted this in another topic and after reading I couldn't resist asking everyone to share.

http://www.ffxiah.com/forum/?topic_id=4204#168801 the poster of this question also deserves credit for bringing up this topic

Well I guess I'll post mine here, My first FFXI experience was running around unable to figure out how to talk and etc. My cursor locks on to a BLM so I start sending spam tells not even knowing why the text is purple so I figure out how to leave the city and I am fighting rabbits outside np having fun. I meet my first Orc, I think ooOoooOooh let's get it! 5 seconds later I am on my back and see this home point option some how I am locked into auto /tell on this BLM. she replies and I explain I have no idea what to do and what a homepoint it she says just homepoint you'll be fine. So I do and she is waiting right there, I tell her this is my first day and apologize after she explains the chat functions. So we talk awhile about ffxi and I learn what a "power level" she said I'm not busy I'll PL you for a bit and of course she explains - by saying "I heal you while you kill stuffs" Well long story short my next few weeks are spent being "one of her little nooblets" Gate crystals how to seek a party my first rank mission into the tomb, she praises me when we ran into the ghost and I won the lot on the traveler's mantle (she also had to tell me what a "lot" was) Then finally the last time I ever saw here I was invited to her wedding in San d' oria, I gave her a bottle of "Mulsum" as a gift and shot off fire works I found the entire thing really romanticizing my first MMO and all having encouragement when it got really fikkin' hard (as FFXI tends to do) but was the Last time I ever saw "Iceprincess" I have had alot of mentors along the way but she was the first and the one who allowed me to develop the out look on things I have now all these years later I never forgot you (and I'll tell ya it's been quite a few) I could fill this entire forum with my memories so I'll stop <WALL TEXT WARNING> I have waited a long time to share that. Thank you all for reading.

I remember this Taru named shortyy who would follow me around the dunes poking me and sending me tells lol!

My friend phantasia. we used to BS about a lot of stuff and laugh about it XD lol. she was my fav mithra! well still is but she isnt on anymore ;;

I miss all my old FFXI friends who dont play anymore /cry ;;

Also, Narco's wedding!! atleast i think it was narco's wedding lol. that was <fun>

One of my most memorable noob moments was my first ferry ride from Selbina to Mhaura. I was naturally explorative at about lvl 20, so I run outside onto the ship's deck, and I see this really cool big skeleton. I get closer to the monster, and see "Silverhook casts casting Freeze." I thought to myself, "Oh, he's trying to attack me, I better go back inside." So I open the ship doors, go into the ship a few steps, and stop (being sure I was in no danger since there was now a closed door between Silverhook and myself). I stand around for a few more seconds then BOOOOOOM! A giant ice block one- shots my poor monk. :P

My second best lolworthy moment as a noob was attempting to complete every single Sandorian quest... while being blissfully unaware how long it takes to fish up 10,000 moat carp. 500 carp and 12 fishing levels later, I threw away my rod for good. :P

My first good noob experience was probably when I used Curaga while my party was fighting a Ghoul in the dunes. Needless to say, it didn't end well.

And one of my proudest early accomplishments was coming back to the dunes as a 40 RDM looking for revenge on those damn Bogy's.

Wow, that was like 5 years ago..I used to have so much fun in this game. Shame everyone got so anal about everything as time went on and sucked the fun out of it.

My first first noob experiences were on lakshmi. I was standing in bastok mines all wild eyed and confused and some hume or elvaan guy asked me if Id like to join his linkshell and I said "yeah" so he said he'd get me a pearl if I followed him and I did and we zoned to some strange place with a huge fountain and he dragged me to some steps where somebody was supposed to get me a pearl and then I realized that my inventory was full and I needed to find a moghouse to go empty it out and he was like "uhh...you're standing right in front of it"

Id never been in bastok markets lool, didnt even realize it existed let alone that there was a moghouse there.

I dont remember anybodies name from lakshmi or even if they still play. My memories of linkshells get fumbled of back then.

I quit a linkshell that was ran by a galka because they seemed really inactive.

and then I quit another because everybody was such a high level that I just felt so inadequate! them being in their lvl 40s and all..I couldnt imagine myself fitting in! (only later did I realize the importance of hanging out with "high levels")

some taru on a chocobo gave me alot of advice also. He stopped riding his chocobo while I was soloing on my way up to konschtat and told me how to get my SJ and how to get a chocobo and I was like "omg, Ill never get lvl20, thats so far away", he frequently waved to me and said hi.

On kujata my first social ls even though I eventually had my issues with the ls leader several years later (I dont even remember anymore) was a good one, I still talk to many of my friends from that time period. Cecilll was our resident high lvl'd dude (he was like lvl61 and I thought he was impervious to aggro lol), he helped me get my rdm AF weapon pre mpk patch...lots and lots of death ensued as my ??? was at the worst part in davoi lol. He was going to aggro all the orcs and kite them to the zone and I was supposed to get my weapon while the orcs were preoccupied and then zone..I got confused and fell off the island and then poor Cecilll died and then I died..and we all had to HP. I was never good in high risk situations!

later after he left and I came back from my many breaks, Creeguy and Dragonfiend helped me with alot of stuff. From getting my rdm AF to showing me how to solo my own testimony.

First ever moment, over at my buddy Dyna's house, we both had gotten the HDD for the ps2 for the downloadable content for socom. We see FFXI comes with it. figure what the hell, why not? i liked a crapton of the previous ones, can't be bad right?

little did i know what i had gotten myself into. we log in, spent a good... i dont know 2 hrs trying to get on the same fking server. finally we land on ifrit. /cheer. we both start in windy, he starts out as a monk, i start out as a red mage. we both *** around for about 2-3hrs in town before we find the exit. swear we talked to every NPC like 15x ended up with probably 3 dozen quests in the process, not knowing wtf to do with any of them!

we exit into West Sarutabaruta, wtf... that things got a flower on its head... ITS A SHRUBBERY, KILL IT! wtf? why cant i attack what you're attacking? ok no biggie, i'll find my own thing to smack with this... onion dagger? wtf? holy ***! i have a spell! "Dia" awesome. Smack the "Shrubbery" and start to cast dia. "Casting is interrupted".... wtf? *Spam click Dia"

"You have been defeated" "Homepoint?" wtf is a homepoint?
meanwhile D is sitting beside me, laughing his fking *** off as he's just tearing through these things. until after about the 4th or 5th one, he gets toasted by this biped birdman looking thing... wtf was that? what the hell's a "Yagudo"? This continued for... probably 2 or 3 days before we figured out the party system, the chat system so we werent spamming in /s for hours on end, and HOW TO REST! rofl... we would fight til we were in the red, then run back to the mog house XD took me a good month before we "Discovered" the auction house. and the rest is basically history...

we've all had our run ins with tremor ram, sea horror, blackbeard and his ilk, and the "Ooooh, DRAGON!" *CHOMP* moments. but nothing is quite like those first few days. especially when you started in a time when there were very few ppl who had char's over 50 and shouting for LB quests was just as common as teleport/AF help shouters. and oh.... the casinos! hahaha. good times. good times... although with SE, almost everytime i log on, i run into at least one "WTF?" moment haha.

When I started out, the Selbina boat was my bread and butter. I started in Windy and really only played to see the areas. So by level 5, I was offered a Linkshell by a taru named Leprechaun. I had no clue what it was, so he explained "It's like a FFXI chatroom." "***, cool, I use those on AOL!" "Uhh...right. Here." I meet a mithra there named Lunara. She was a really nice ***, like myself. We become fast friends. I had never been outside of Saruta, but I decide to go take the boat with her.

Run to Selbina as a level 7 WAR, no sub, no oils, no nothing. I get there with like a minute to spare before the boat leaves, and *** me I didn't have enough gil to ride the boat. She gives me the gil and we ride. xD From there I set my HP in Selbina, she parts to level, I walk to Sandy. Aggro an Orc in Ronfaure (remember, I have no *** maps at this point) and find the zone with like 4 HP.
Big accomplishment for me at the time.

Anyway, the boat was where I met Tyno, my in game wife to be. I had met her irl once or twice before I met her in game, so it was funny. I was a level 30 WAR thinking I'm hot ***, killing Sea Monks. Attack the next one to spawn. Miss. Bam, two shotted. What the mother ***? Sea Horror? She laughs so hard I think that mithra DRK caught a corinary. From there on, when we were bored, we rode the boat. We ended up getting married like...uh. A year and a half later? (She was taken when we met, so I held off til she wasn't. xD)

When we split, still rode boats. When I hit my first 75, I made it a priority to go attack Sea Horror. On WAR, still wasn't easy as a new 75, and like three+ years ago when SE didn't handhold you new kids with gear, good merits, Retaliation, etc. Fun, nonetheless. I need to ride the boat next time I'm on...

I proudly referred to myself as King n00b a good year or so after playing, so picking a favorite noob experience isn't easy. My {mega boss} at work- Radek- got me into this game, so much of my lowbie experiences (gate crystals, SJ quest, etc) came from his PLing RDM... but I think my favorite moment is when I decided to make myself a big, impressive Rank 3. I ran around and did all of the San d'Orian missions as a level 25WAR/MNK (sporting my Neckchopper and 'pub sub that Radek generously donated to me) thinking I was invincible.

When I finally arrive at Giddeus for the dragon fight, I realized I didn't have a PT and froze up. I made it past the Yagudo Votary on the way to Balga's Dais (using a printout map from FFXIatlas... heh) and was terrified, TERRIFIED, to actually zone in thinking that I'd be thrown into a fight with the dragon immediately. I hung around at the little L-shaped section leading into the Dais until a random Mithra thf/war, Veyra, wandered by and explained that she was farming necklaces. We chatted, I traded her the 3-4 necklaces in my inventory and she offered to help. My friend came in as a naked blm/whm (for Sleep) and we won the BCNM without a problem. Having a nice, random player help out on a BCNM really altered my preconceptions of the game early on and made me realize how fun it could really be.

First time entering Jeuno... it all seemed so much bigger and felt like I was walking into the real capital of vanadiel (this was just as aht urgan was released).

I can remember how completely lost I was back then, i've never been one to ask for help and i still dont, so back when i started i spent days roaming around and dieing on thf in gustaburg thinking lvl 10 was out of my reach as i tried to xp off even match mobs in lvl 1 armour...

Then i run into this french player when i'm level 9 who said they was going to dunes to party and offered to escort me... i died lots but ppl offereing to help like that w/o my asking for it is what helped me stay in this game.

I remember my first time playing a couple years back i accepted a quest in port sandy. I was determined to do this quest, talked to every NPC in sandy. Finally i began to shout in South for help. 5-10 minutes later a level 75 RDM helps me out. He shows me where exactly im supposed to go and gives me a link pearl.

When i hit level 20 he took me to jueno, on our way there we fought (or hhim rather) a tree nm (forget which one it was). we had also fought a elemental which he let me have the cluster. I found out it was worth like 2k and thought i was rich ><

Needless to say our shell split, now two of them. I have both pearls but just not the same. As i get further into ff more of my friends quit... Sucks without them ya'know?

Oh and dont even get me started on my very first time i seen a Ram ><

I started playing this game (my 1st MMO and 1st FF) about 4-6 months after it got to the us.
My Friend Carlton talked so much about it and he was like I'll pay for it now, you payme back when you can! So I was like ok I'll geave it a try see if I like it.

Well I still play to this day.

It took me about 2 years to get a pc and really get the hung of it needless to say I was a noob for a long time.

But my noob esperience was about 4 months ago when a friend that has 3, 75s ask me what was I doing. so I said about to go solo on blm.
He said I wanna go exp on my 72 rdm (72 4 months ago now is 75 >.<) so I said lets go duo!
We got to the puddings and got kill after he agro 1 and had no clue what to do.
Then when I asked y not use graverty, or sleep, or even bind, he answer: idk what graverty is for and sleep takes along time to cast.

So I told him to go back to CB, I was too agravated to explain a 72 rdm how to be a rdm when mine is only 37...

In the dunes, 18mnk no sub. I knew enough to put a seacom up that I needed subjob items. A little taru wearing a crown (which i though was one of the coolest looking things in the game). Obviously a jp player, we stumbled through auto-translate to figure out I still needed the worm and skull. He took me Kon. highlands (never been there before), taught me about tele-crystals (never grabbed the mea one when leaving windy) and helped me get my sub.

I just really wish I knew his name since it was such a great experience for me. I have a bad habit of doing the same for others now, even though the skull drop sucks for me.

As a side note, I actually took a shell member to get sub in mhaura, just for a change of pace on my part.
