Seems a pretty good change to me.
I really hope that they don't close/merge any servers for a while yet. I like the population as it is.

I really wish they would stop d*cking around with us and just announce the next server merge. We all know it's inevitable.

I really wish they would stop d*cking around with us and just announce the next server merge. We all know it's inevitable. Doubt we will see one, this is there alternative idea to keeping people happy and making more money in the same shot. People will vacate slowly, jump around and some servers will become so dead that the remaining people in it will be forced to transfer if they want to play actively with others. I doubt anyone will stay on a server population of 100people, per say.
Once then they will merge the remaining left overs which will mostly be inactive accounts only to save money by shutting down a server.
I don't see SE implementing this with the thought of a server merge in the near future. This will allow servers to merge them selfs. Less work & more $ for SE.

Good point. You just validated my own presumed thoughts from long ago - that SE are money-hungry savages.

SE is a business, the more money they can make from this game the better cause it makes it's life span longer.

As long as its not a pay to win shop, and mostly cosmetic or vanity, I support it

Yeah, I knew a guy that would regularly drop 50 a week on ... Eden Eternal? Think that's what it was called. Had a gambling system in it essentially and he ate it up.
Also read accounts of people dropping 1k a month on some games. Just nuts to me but it is very lucrative.

I got one better. I knew someone who spent over $10,000 on Perfect World International, then DELETED HIS ACCOUNT WITH ALL THE GEAR. THEN made ANOTHER account and dropped another $10,000. I don't know if he got rid of that account too, but me and my husband wanted to smack him, lol.
Then there was the guy who literally lost his wife and house and had to move back with his mother because he spent his entire paycheck (about $50,000 worth) on PWI.
I won't even touch Atlantica Online and Nexon's cash shop.
FtP (PtW) is a really good business, but it would cause you to go broke for something that could be gone tomorrow if they decided to shut down the servers.

That's absolutely absurd haha.
Unfortunately I could see SE selling not only cosmetic/QoL items (costume gear, teleport items, medicines, EXP boosts, treasure hunter etc.) but also BC entry orbs, rare drops, upgrade items, currencies and other stuff. If they charged say 2 bucks for a +2 skirmish stone, being that it's a lottery augment system I could see people blowing a ton of money on them in favor of the ease of getting them vs farming.

Could you imagine if they did this, release a cash shop and very unique gear that could be used with the vanity system that is being added that actually looked good?
Wasn't the tidal talisman or w/e it's called bought as a part of a set with a necklace off the square site?
As old as a game ffxi is, I still think the (majority) of the gear designs are brilliant and beautiful. As long as it wasn't outrageously priced, I'd totally buy vanity things, as I'm sure they'd do a good job making them look really nice.
I do kinda think in-game stores need to stick to vanity only items. Being able to buy items that actually impact gameplay with money is kind of a shitty advantage, and I'm sure lots of people would *** about it.
Blizzard made something like 2 mil within the first 4 hours when they released their first mount off the game store. It's a pretty big cash cow they're missing out on.

If SE decided to make XI free to play with a cash shop, the absolute WORST thing they can do (which is what PWI and to some extent Atlantica Online does) is put gear in the shop, whether directly or indirectly through gambling. PWI basically told the playerbase that got "hard to obtain" gear through hard work and grinding to eff off when they put it in a gamble pack (where you can get crap out of it, naturally).
As much as I don't want to admit this, but I spent more on those gamble boxes (addictive personality, it's why I'm kinda banned from Vegas by my husband) than I should've, for very little in return. It felt good getting the nice stuff when I did get the nice stuff, but it wasn't often enough.

Yeah, I'd really hate it if they did put gear related stuff in a cash shop but I honestly expect them to sell augmenting stones/items. It's just too much of a profit for them to ignore :\
