If one of the scoutmasters or an accompanying adult saw any scout using their scout knife in an unsafe manner you would ask to see the young scouts "whittling chip" and dramatically remove one of the four corners by tearing it off.... If only the same reverence was held for your man card skully.... sure, you would probably be on your tenth one and I would have just removed corner three and the fourth would be dangling by a thread.... but eventually you would learn not to use that word around men...

I had three corners ripped off of my whittling chip, and one from my firem'n chit. I was a pretty unsafe boyscout. That being said, I was the best knot-tyer in my troop.

Well, we sold popcorn. Of course, no one remembers the Boy Scout popcorn, they just remember the Girl Scout cookies. Not that I'm complaining; I could destroy a box of Samoas like they were my last meal on earth.
I did enjoy my time with the scouts, though. One of my favorite trips was the one where I had to learn how to build my own survival shelter out of logs and leaves. If anything, it's taught me that if I'm ever caught in a forest somewhere, I could technically survive. I do miss camping, though.

We always had cabins, no messing around with survival shelters. We never went rafting, kayaking, or canoeing. We were even shoo-ed away from the bank for brim fishing at "camp" once! Basically, when I went to middle school, it was a resounding "*** this!" You do more poking around in the woods with friends and family anyway.
