Any of you guys watching True Detective?

Is that the one on HBO with McConahay(sp?) and Woody Harrelson?

EDIT: NVM. Looked it up. The hubby has it on DVR. I have yet to watch it. He raves about it.

Oh my... already watching shows seperately? That's clearly not a good sign...

So damn intense. It starts up a little slow as it tries to set the characters up, then it really starts to take off.

I like the idea of it being an anthology series like AHS, but I think it's going to be really hard to top this season so far.

Peaches, pears, and plums do well in this region. Hazelnuts and cherries! It's really rewarding to have something homegrown. Tomatoes, peppers, and squash are really resilient and have a good haul too.

I'm looking forward to his reaction to dirt. He enjoyed sand when we were at the beach. Hummingbirds seem really prolific in North and East Texas, they're a little sparse in Central Texas. We have a lot of rock doves. I didn't have feeders at the old house, but they were attracted to Carolina Jasmine and Lilac, so I would see them once in a while.

Since we can expect droughts and water restrictions every year, it kind of limits what vegetation we can have. Something out of the ordinary for the region may be a waste of money in the summer, unfortunately.

EDIT: I noticed some of my neighbors have orange trees, so I've been fiddling with that. I really want to try to grow avocados. That may be a toss-up though.

Ah, water restrictions. Always fun =/

I prefer regional plants rather than exotics, mainly because they are usually easier to care for. Do you get indian paintbrushes and bluebonnets in your area?

I didn't think about how the regions might be that different for hummingbirds. She lived about 3 hours north (iirc) of Houston in Crockett but that is definately more east than SA (area north of SA?).

Lots of good picture moments with playing in the dirt....or mud/clay :p

Citrus, if nothing else, you should be able to grow indoors. We have a lemon tree that is surviving at the moment inside (it was very unhappy with the lack of light in December and January) and you have more consistent sunshine. That will also restrict the amount of water you need to give it for a bit to see if it works for you.

Just a warning about avacados, my father-in-law has a tree that is 20~ years old and the first crop just came in this past year. They were really good he said and huge, but a long time investment.

James Spader plays crazy/ruthless very well. I'm just happy that dialogue is not...so staged compared to many shows on right now.

I hope they're all still recorded. There's six or eight, right? I might have to play catch up.

We do, but they're not as lush like around the Dallas/Fort Worth area where my parents live. Austin's season for bluebonnets is a little shorter than Dallas, from what I've seen. I think, because of the difference in rainfall, the DFW bluebonnets are also more vivid shade blue.

They definitely have more rainfall and nice forests there. My dad owns a deer lease two hours north of Crockett, and we used to go skulking around in the "river" bottoms.

I've never done any type of citrus, and I was actually wondering if it would be a safer bet to pot them and bring them in, since our winters are fairly unpredictable. That's good to know!

Really?!? Oh man! I was hoping for something that produces since we east avocados pretty often. I'm going to have to investigate further to see whether it's worth it. They are really beautiful trees regardless.

EDIT: Have a good weekend, all!

The lady tells me it dropped nearly 40 degrees over the course of a day or two. The weather she'll be coming North to will be warmer than the weather you have this week, or so I hear =)

Saturday was wonderful too! The temperatures started climbing into a nice, comfortable level last week, then...NOPE!

I feel bad for you all, but I'm sure you're all used to it.

EDIT: Okay, maybe I feel a teensy bit bad for CA with their downpour.

idk... a lot of people stream their gaming now. I used to have a friend that would sit there for hours and watch competitive LoL sessions.

In any case the guy is being annoying just coming in to every thread to spam post it...

Not today and not yesterday. Just complaining about losing a Sunday outside. We made a lot of progress on Saturday with cleaning out the old landscaping. DREARINESS!
