The unshot alternative ending, which would reveal the whole film to be a dream, has been now confirmed by The Playlist. A little bit of pain shouldn't scare most girls. Loads of girls give blood, it can't be too much more painful to give plasma. Loads of girls give plasma multiple times, for that matter. If it hurt too much they'd only do it once. A lot of girls get tattoos and piercings, so it doesn't seem like loads of them are twitchy about needles.
I don't know, maybe I'm completely confused, but it seems to me that if girls are shying away from Spath it's probably because they can't tell whether or not he's interested in them and don't want to risk being embarrassed or hurt if he's not.
