So, my girlfriend found this Alienware laptop on craigslist for $500, which is a pretty decent price for Alienware. Her dad and his girlfriend told her she can't/shouldn't get it because there could be kiddie porn on it and she could go to jail.

I don't think it'd be that hard of a problem to fix honestly. Even on the off chance there is kiddie porn on it for whatever reason, the cops aren't going to get involved unless the guy selling the laptop called the cops almost immediately after selling it to her.

Of course even if the cops were involved, they'd still have to get a warrant. In that time wouldn't a reformat solve the problems?

Edit: oh hey sweet, page opener
Not hard either way.
If they know what day you bought the computer, the files have the date and time of when they were last modified. It would be really hard to pin it on you, neigh impossible. Plus when buying a used computer you should reformat anyway.

Though, this month, the subway at the Uni has been doing the $5 any foot long February (i think they're forced to)

So I'm taking advantage of that. but after that, it's back to the arm and leg prices.

I might just get salad starting next month. the salads at the uni dining hall are like $5 too.

After 3 days of trying, I finally fixed my laptop. That saves me a good 1,800$ right there.
Should still get that Asus, lol.

true, and I should totally not try to view this thread to see how the conversation went on the way to work and smash the entire right side of my car into several fence posts, smash my taillight, headlight, windshield, both doors and windows.
I'm confused, did that happen or are you attempting humor?

any questions?

edit: and I just realized that my phone doesn't take half bad photos...

depends on the subway and the footlong, not all participate in the promotions.

the other month participating ones had all footlongs for $5 each.

I think they just googled alienware and the first news article that came up had something to do with child porn being on it because they crossed the meixcan border or something. But the images were "encrypted".
Kinda reminds me of people at work who are afraid to use their CC online but are okay faxing it... Hell we've had people fax us documents that have their social security number on it.

Clearly our website is a target for identity theft.

Speaking of which, why do people feel like it's okay to be totally unwilling to learn anything about how computers work? I can understand not knowing, but why not try to learn at least basic things? These aren't alien technology, I don't understand why it's socially acceptable to be like "Well I don't know anything about them so I'm just going to be totally ignorant to it and complain about how it doesn't work."

I mainly use this in context to people who use it at work every day and still don't know how to make a word document or save/find a file.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend buying a second hand computer, especially a laptop.

In other news: Been watching a lot of Man V. Food. I found a local place that has a 12lb hamburger. You have 2 and a half hours to eat it. Once I find out how much it costs, I wanna do it. Prize money is $200, free burger, name on wall of fame, and a T-shirt.
I'm going to send you the pic of what was left after I finished eating the 2lb burger. Notice I say "what was left".

I can concur, unless you know the person and you know they take care of it.

if I could find a cheap way to have custom cases made I'd start on my customizable laptop or laptop form factor scheme. I guess I could learn how to do it myself but meh.

That looks way more than 2lbs.
The beef was 2lbs. They go by the weight of the meat, not the burger.

I would not recommend attempting the 12lb beast.

If you do though, bring some blood thinners. Also, plenty of liquids. That makes the stuff go down quicker.

Honestly, the only way I see it being feasible is if you trained for it. A lot of those gastro-athletes go through years of work to prepare. Also, Adam had a training regiment he did when doing those challenges. I think he had a personal trainer, tbh.

12lbs seems like a lot. ManVFood can only do like 5-10 lbs in an hour.

Maybe if two people could do it.
Think of it this way:
48 quarter pounders w/ cheese + other toppings.
