Pet MAB Question

Hello fellow summoners,

I had a question in regards to pet MAB equipment and when it has to be worn. Does the item need to be on when you give the command to do a blood pact, or when the summon actually performs the magic ability? Trying to find out as I plan to obtain the delve staff and currenty working on elemental staves. If the delve staff must be worn when the command is given, there would be no reason to take the staves up to 99, acquiring the blood pact recast bonus, as I know those have to be worn when the command is given. Hope this info is somewhere, thanks!
