I absolutely loved it. Many totally manly tears for the story. I thought the last chapter was really moving and a cool change from the normal gameplay.
As for the world itself I would have liked to explore more of the Niflheim continent and actually gone into Tenebrae. Not sure if that's possible to do with flying. I would really have loved to see those places in the same we we saw the Kingdom of Lucis.
Quest wise I think it would have been better to spread out the quests as you go through the story, so you don't get stuck just doing sidequests (because everyone does them) and forgetting about the story. It's nice having freedom but I think sometimes too much freedom can be a bad thing.
Chocobos are awesome. Curiel or Sylkis when camping is amazing. Didn't try chocobo racing yet for some reason so can't comment on that.
Combat was fine in my opinion, I had a lot of fun with it, but I would have liked a lock on that I didn't have to hold, like in the platinum demo. Especially with all the different parts you can hit on some monsters and when they move around the target lock can be lost. Magic being really strong and affecting the world (like freezing water, burning the land and monsters/party members, stunning/shocking enemies and yourself) was a really nice change though I would have liked to have more spells and additional effects to them.
The music is amazing, no complaints there. Somnus4ever
The world looks natural and I'm really happy with it but I would have liked a snow area as well, the small one we see wasn't enough for me. It all feels like it belongs, all the monsters and people are in places they could be in a real world and that helps with the immersion for me.
The banter between the characters reminds me of games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect, that was one of my favorite things to listen to while exploring in those games so I'm glad they added it. It made the characters feel a lot more like old friends.
Although I really enjoyed the story I would have liked more scenes with the Emperor and Ardyn so we could see what an affect he had on him and how it changed the Empire over time. More scenes in general from the Empire would have been great, to flesh out those characters a bit more. Having a flashback sometimes felt a little random, like it was just so we could see them and not because someone was telling Noctis about this particular event (or he remembers it in a related event). It felt a bit out of place. Ravus and Luna should have had more story dedicated to them to flesh them out more. We barely see anything when it comes to Ravus and he feels like a throw-away character even though he's quite important. Sure, he's in Kingsglaive, but after that he doesn't show up much. Not mentioning Nyx aside from one small thing at the end was a little disappointing. I would also have liked to see more of Luna and Noctis as kids and when sending messages through the book Umbra delivers. Aranea should definitely have had a bigger role as well. Many of the base commanders, in fact.
Although some hate the car I actually liked it, it was fun cruising in it and just taking in the landscape when going to new places and listening to the party while doing it was nice.
Overall I had a great time with this game, absolutely worth the money for me. It's definitely in the top 3 for me after seeing the ending.
