Kuching, your guide is a pretty good start. You might want to proofread it for typos, though. And there's not too much about optimal pet sets; your guide is more for the master so far. There are different solo strategies on puppetmaster that are effective for different situations, and should probably be covered, like master with Soulsoother, or Valoredge tanking. If you'd cover how to gear (or equip atmas) and the appropriate maneuvers for those situations, I bet new PUPs would find it useful.

The guide is now being rewritten with these and many more new features in mind. I mainly posted my base for people like you who can notice my mistakes, to proof read and correct them :)

Also, possible thread titles (humor me):

Playing with dolls: A FFXI guide to Puppetmaster
Why didn't this thing come with a manual?: A PUP Guide
Vana'diel Clown College: A Guide to Puppetmaster
Can I go as PUP?: A guide to dealing with rejection
And of course,

God damn it Pleebo, they are all amazing names ;x

Note: I need some of the awesome PUPs out there to help me with optimal gearsets for master and machine for all situations. PM MEH!

One thing that is important to add is how the maneuvers affect the spells of your automaton, meaning how you can pick your enfeebles that SW or SS use. People that I was running around with the other day didn't realize that you can "pick" the enfeebles to prioritize, i.e. it is a major bonus being able to pop an ice maneuver to force paralyze. Great guide though.

In the Maneuvers section of your guide, you don't mention the Kenkonken's Overload suppression. Just to be 100% sure, wouldn't having the Mythic completely null the need for Overload reduction gear?

Essentially, yes. Though I'm sure most PUPs would still probably macro in the gear out of habit.

You want to still macro the AF gloves in for two reasons:

1: When you blink, you can keep moving without having to plant your character's feet to do your jazz hands animation. It's minor, but I know it will drive me up the wall.

B: The gloves give your automaton bonus stats based on the maneuver you use. Example: Fire maneuver gives your automaton bonus STR, and Wind maneuver gives bonus AGI.

C or 3: That's it really. I just had to have a 3rd point to make the Doctor Who reference.

If I can be so bold.....with all the guides popping up the where is the pup guide?

There is a problem with PUP. Well, other than all the PUP jokes.

PUP is hands down the most complex job in the game. I have said for years that no one, not even Squenix, truly understands PUP.

There are so many builds for the puppet, and so many ways to play the job, no one player can write it.

I could suggest a "Hints, tips, and strategies for the complete Puppetmaster" thread.

While I agree that PUP is wonderfully complex, the optimal sets/builds still exist and these type of guides and the ensuing discussions help to nail down what those are for each situation.

i like the bolded most :)

what i would really like to see in a PUP guide is what attachemnt sets ppl use for what situations/automatons. There is so many to choose from (and still alot i am missing i think lol) i dont have time atm to read the current Guide Kuching has there so not sure if it was covered somewhere beside listing all attachments. I know this is probably a hard part of the guide :x (i guess dont know)

Finalising gearsets, writing endgame strategies and working out how to format attachments and their information neatly in a post.

Attachment "gearsets" will also be made and added.

PM me for W.I.P. and lemme know if anything should be scrapped or added.

Look forward to your guide completion. I have pup and have fooled around with it here and there. Since salvageII however I have encountered some amazing puppetmasters, which has peaked my interest in learning the deeper side of pup.

EDIT: I suck at spelling O.o

As do I but I use spell checkers. I highly recommend them. In fact I learned more about spelling in my first five years with a spell checker than all my years in formal education.

Well, other than leveling and skilling up, it's likely changed a great deal with the introduction of the Alternator
