I enjoyed the first 2 books immensely. The 3rd one isn't out that I'm aware of.
I suck at explaining things so probably better to read reviews and stuff. :I

I've read almost all of those. I highly recommend the Vlad Taltos stuff in particular.

"Made in Canada" " Fabriqué au Canada"
Helped you avoid a hefty fine of $10,000 Canadian. Or $5 USD.

side note edit: I have good omens but haven't read yet. I haven't started discworld yet because i'm not a millionaire and I don't want to buy the whoel series (and ive got no one to borrow from). i'm too hipster to read GoT until it's not this weeks walking dead. I got the sanderson novels at kelhor's recommendation (I think) but haven't read yet. American gods was v-good. I bought it as a 2fer with Anansi boys (also good).

It's a bit different than most fantasy, so dont expect it to feel like Raymond Feist's 30 books, or Terry Goodkind.

Oh I fully intend to buy them. It's more of a "making excuses due to suspense at let down / over hype etc. I have a cousin who changed his name to "Om" at one point (it's now Xavier if you were wondering). I grew up being told that they were the apex of books so now I'm intimidated.

Welp I came here to post a couple recommendation and see if you or anyone had read them (hadn't seen them recommended yet in this thread and thought maybe I just had bad tastes :P), but from this I came upon an update to said series that I had been looking for for many many years, So thank you to who ever wants to take credit.
Anyways I was referring to the Elvenbane Series by Andre Norton & Mercedes Lackey. I absolutely loved this world and the magic within it. My name "Keman" is actually from the main shape shifting dragon within this series. (3rd book had came out in 2002, since then Norton had died and no update was ever heard about the 4th and final book. 15 years later on March, 17 2017 Lackey stated she plans to finish it by 2017's end. Yes I am super excited)
Also Recommending The Darksword series of books, written by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman (A trilogy with a 4th to complete it).
I am interested if anyone else here has read either of these and what there thoughts were on them as well.
Edit:
While discussing this conversation with my Brother he highly suggested that I recommend the series "Sword of Heavens" by Richard S Tuttle. As well as the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin. (I can not vouch for these myself, but he was able to get blm to lv 25 about 12 years ago so I guess he might can be trusted maybe)

A little off the beaten path here, but if nonfiction work about mythology is something you consume, I can highly recommend Lewis Hyde's Trickster Makes This World: Mischief, Myth, and Art. It's among the best books I read last year; Hyde writes beautiful prose and the content is stellar.

Super Fantasy fan here, and while I could recommend lots of various singles or series (that sword of truth series was great!) I'm gonna instead point you towards a fairly new writer, whose book impressed me due to his writing style, which reminded me more of a oral story from an old style storyteller or entertainer. While it is the start of a series (I can't remember if he specified a length but so far its at 3 books I think?) it also suffices as a very good solitary read. Instead of trying to paraphrase, I'll just spoiler an intro for ya below. :)
My name is Kvothe, pronounced nearly the same as "quothe." Names are important as they tell you a great deal about a person. I've had more names than anyone has a right to. The Adem call me Maedre. Which, depending on how it's spoken, can mean The Flame, The Thunder, or The Broken Tree.
"The Flame" is obvious if you've ever seen me. I have red hair, bright. If I had been born a couple of hundred years ago I would probably have been burned as a demon. I keep it short but it's unruly. When left to its own devices, it sticks up and makes me look as if I have been set afire.
"The Thunder" I attribute to a strong baritone and a great deal of stage training at an early age.
I've never thought of "The Broken Tree" as very significant. Although in retrospect, I suppose it could be considered at least partially prophetic.
My first mentor called me E'lir because I was clever and I knew it. My first real lover called me Dulator because she liked the sound of it. I have been called Shadicar, Lightfinger, and Six-String. I have been called Kvothe the Bloodless, Kvothe the Arcane, and Kvothe Kingkiller. I have earned those names. Bought and paid for them.
But I was brought up as Kvothe. My father once told me it meant "to know."
I have, of course, been called many other things. Most of them uncouth, although very few were unearned.
I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep.
You may have heard of me.
So begins the tale of Kvothe—from his childhood in a troupe of traveling players, to years spent as a near-feral orphan in a crime-riddled city, to his daringly brazen yet successful bid to enter a difficult and dangerous school of magic. In these pages you will come to know Kvothe as a notorious magician, an accomplished thief, a masterful musician, and an infamous assassin. But The Name of the Wind is so much more—for the story it tells reveals the truth behind Kvothe's legend.
Edit: I'm so derp. Book is "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. <_<;;; Swear I had written that already...
I actually come back here from time to time but i don't bump with what i've read. I did read the dark tower series as well as american gods / anansi boys before they were tv shows (hipster mode on) thanks to you guys. The magicians etc were also a great read that became a mediocre at best show. House of Leaves is now my literary Everest. Hard to complete but so worth it.
I started becoming a crit role addict this summer and am finally buying the Patrick Rothfuss books.

I read a lot of this during the pandemic. I know i ask for light fun reads a lot through this thread but i re-read House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski. It felt like one of the greatest exercises in reading comprehension for me but it was such an amazing read / mindblow. Would recommend to anyone who can stay motivated to finish it. The mystery and awe is worth the "work".

Unfortunelly im not that fond on actual reading as all my reading time are spent on technical/scholar books.
But that doesnt mean i dont appretiate that art. Actually, here and there i watch reviews videos of books histories. While the sensation isnt quite as fulfilling as actually reading it, at least gives me the basic in very short time.
But there is one book, despite never reading it, just watching people telling it gave me something special such is its power. Not the entire history though, but the short poem The Grand Inquisitor from Brothers Karamazov.
Just reading that short part gave so much knowledge and power so that i could pass through the pandemic, being stronger now than ever.
Obviously, recommend it to anyone who never heard about it, or never gave some deep thinking about whats said there.
For those of you who don't know me (outside of game), I am an insatiable reader, among other things. I periodically put together orders for books to add to my library.
I have recently put another "please recommend books" thread on my FB wall and have added several suggestions to my cart. I have a decent collection of books that were referred, and am now looking for something light to add to the cart. I find when people tell you to read something they try something that they think will impress you (through complexity or size), spoke volumes to them (but may be old hat or hard to get into for someone else), or something that is "this weeks hotness".
Anyhow: I'm looking for some page fodder for my next couple book orders. I've enjoyed books from Twilight to Frankenstein, from 200 pages to 2000. I'll read pretty much anything. HOWEVER, i stereotypically hate detective novels and westerns. I can read something romantic but it stereotypically has to have something else going on. My favorite genre is probably light fantasy (just finished reading several Lev Grossman novels - ie "Harry Potter" stuff if you're not a big reader).
I'm actually looking for that type of book to round out this particular order. Something that a teen could read but you'd consider still stimulating to an adult.
All suggestions are appreciated! If i don't buy your book today I might on a future order!
<3 ~Ashley
