Don't hate on it before it's out, it might actually be good. If it's ***though (when it's out), go ahead.

On the one hand, they can't do any worse than the prequel trilogy. On the other hand, they can still *** it up pretty bad. Curious to see if they'll reference existing storylines (which are numerous to say the least) or try to create a completely original story. I think working within the existing lore is the way to go, but there's some really shitty stories there too... I read a few of the EU novels a while back, but the Legacy of the Force arc ruined that for me. Yuuzhan Vong arc or such could be cool if done well.
I really REALLY hope you are right, there is a wealth of brilliant stories and characters in the Star Wars universe that only had cameo appearances in the movie saga. Please Disney, PLEASE do not try and drag out the same storyline, George Lucas always planned on doing 6 films, even if the release of the prequels took the shine off the original trilogy just a tad. To force another series of movies from the same storyline runs a very, very high risk of destroying credibility.

I hope whatever comes down the pipe is completely fresh and not something designed to throw in pointless cameos.

Quote "The seventh movie, with a working title of “Episode 7,” is set for release in 2015. Episodes 8 and 9 will follow. The trilogy will continue the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo and Princess Leia beyond “Return of the Jedi,” the third film released and the sixth in the saga. After that, Disney plans a new “Star Wars” movie every two or three years. Lucas will serve as creative consultant in the new movies.

yes they will make that 4b back no problem ..and i think Disney are thinking long term... the material is all ready available for Disney about 20 books were written after the final episode - ive read a few, i wont spoil it !!
I wonder why Lucas wanted to sell up - perhaps provide for his family and make sure his legacy is in the right hands to continue when he is gone?
Also im sure he makes enough $$$ from THX - its the daddy sound format right now.

With all the original actors being so much older now (Carrie Fisher is how old? She's still great, but she can't pull off the slave bikini anymore. Mark Hamill is 61 years old. Harrison Ford is 70.) I wonder how they will continue their story from "Return of the Jedi." It will almost certainly have to be with new actors for each of those roles. Any speculations on who?

I swear to the god of all things holy, if Justin Bieber appears in the movies in ANY way shape or form for even the smallest margin of time known to man, I will destroy the world.

Should just make a movie trilogy about the rise and fall... and rise again of Boba Fett! Or go back to the beginnings of the Sith Empire and the stories of Exar Kun and the Mandalorians! I mean Boba Fett plays a major role in the story post movies and it's a story worthy of being made into a movie.

4.05 billion, wtf, how long would it take to make that back. Forget a 7th movie, it's going to be more than just that. Honestly it might not take that long... I mean star wars is a legendary series... though... it might be one of those that shouldn't be revived again...
Look at avengers... As of August they raked in $1.5 billion at the box office... who knows how much they made off DVD sales... Imagine if everyone who saw it actually paid lol... If you find an enticing enough movie and make it well... you could very well make that back with some hefty profit... I'd say they could possibly make another trlogy over the next 8-9 years... and if they do it right they could make quite a lot of money...
Avengers saved disney at the time lol... John Carter flopped hard for them... so it could go that way too...
Ya know John Carter was a pretty good movie had no freaking idea wtf it was as i had seen 0 previews for it prior sad it didn't do well.
On the main topic... i read a metric ton of the novels when i was in high school and honestly i would not mind if the movies that come follow those novels... that said star wars is full on dead to me if they make up their own crap, there is litterally a metric F'ton to go off of making their own version of star wars the after years would be f'tarded.
On that note would be great if they made a movie based on the courtship of princess leah however considering they announced it as a trilogy think that thought will only ever be an if, that said jedi academy trilogy is one of my favorite ones.

All the Original cast would fit perfect - as in the 1st book after Return of the Jedi some time has passed and Luke along with his sister start bringing along new Jedi
Also one of the main characters die - wont say who lol.

They already have this in books, Leia becoms a jedi, Luke gets married to Mara Jade etc etc
Edit: By only watching the movies you see only a small fraction of the Star Wars lore, I've been in book stores where Star Wars isn't kept in the science fiction or fantasy sections but in a friggen Star Wars section.

4.5 billion you need to remember Disney gets all rights to Star wars as of this moment, so this is not just including movies, this includes toys, video games, clothing Rides. You need to also remember that lucasfilms did not just make Star wars movies, they made the following
American Graffiti 1973 George Lucas Universal Studios 97% $115,000,000
Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope 1977 George Lucas 20th Century Fox 94% $775,398,007
More American Graffiti 1979 Bill L. Norton Universal Studios 22% $15,014,674
Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back 1980 Irvin Kershner 20th Century Fox 97% $538,375,067
Raiders of the Lost Ark 1981 Steven Spielberg Paramount Pictures 94% $384,140,454
Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi 1983 Richard Marquand 20th Century Fox 79% $475,106,177
Twice Upon a Time 1983 John Korty & Charles Swenson Warner Bros. N/A N/A
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 1984 Steven Spielberg Paramount Pictures 85% $333,107,271
Latino 1985 Haskell Wexler Cinecom N/A N/A
Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters 1985 Paul Schrader Warner Bros. 95% $502,758
Labyrinth 1986 Jim Henson TriStar Pictures 62% $12,729,917
Howard the Duck 1986 Willard Huyck Universal Studios 16% $37,962,774
Willow 1988 Ron Howard Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer 46% $57,269,863
Tucker: The Man and His Dream 1988 Francis Ford Coppola Paramount Pictures 86% $19,652,638
The Land Before Time 1988 Don Bluth Universal Studios/Amblin Entertainment 73% $48,092,846
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 1989 Steven Spielberg Paramount Pictures 89% $474,171,806
Radioland Murders 1994 Mel Smith Universal Studios 19% $1,316,865
Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 1999 George Lucas 20th Century Fox 57% $924,317,558
Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones 2002 George Lucas 20th Century Fox 67% $649,398,328
Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith 2005 George Lucas 20th Century Fox 80% $848,754,768
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull 2008 Steven Spielberg Paramount Pictures 77% $786,636,033
Star Wars: The Clone Wars 2008 Dave Filoni Warner Bros. Pictures 19% $68,282,844
Red Tails 2012 Anthony Hemingway 20th Century Fox 36% $48,832,821
all sales after the date of purchase that money goes directly to Disney. I fail to mention the multiple Star wars video games, and cartoons and books not included on this list.
Now this is not including Toys, and memorabilia. The ride Star tours and Indiana Jones rides at disney land were paying royalties to Lucasarts/films for having them in the park. The sale of Lucasfilms to Disney would make them the only profiteers.
So if you ask me, buying a WORLD WIDE known Production company, being the Most well known World Wide known cartoon and attraction, I would say they made a great deal. It would take them 1 movie to make that back. I would just be worried that Disney will buy Johnny depp soon and own him as a pet.

There's so much expanded universe content for Disney to use, I personally am looking forward to what they could achieve, sure they could balls it up completely but I'd say it's better than no Star Wars content.
People can say it shits on the original trilogy all they want but everyone still enjoys those movies regardless of what they think of the newer released Star Wars material so I can't see the problem.
Oh and Star Wars in Kingdom Hearts would be alright! Although they've already had Mark Hamill in KH as Master Eraqus so maybe he won't mind coming back. ^^
EDIT: Interesting to note, on Mark Hamill's wiki page they've put in his filmography for him to reprise his role as Luke Skywalker in Episode 7: The Fallen Hero. Is that the draft title of the movie and has he been confirmed for it or are people making assumptions?

Makes me wonder if we will see Kyle Katarn in the movies, unless he died or something. Last Dark Forces game I played was academy and never really dug into any books so he could be dead for all I know.
