| | Good morning fishers,
The Shaper’s Shawl was set to be a difficult to obtain reward on par with the rewards that could be obtained by defeating a powerful notorious monster and we do not have any plans of easing the difficulty. For that reason, there are no plans to obtain this item through any content other than "Inside the Belly". | |

I don't even know what to say.
Fishers have waited years for Matsya to be implemented in the "Inside the Belly" quest, and when it finally does players, most who haven't even picked up a fishing rod, feel the need to complain.
Matsya finally got a reward worth doing in my opinion, and I see nothing wrong with it being for leveling other crafts faster.

I just wished the fish were easier to catch or that % of getting cape were high because between catching cave cherax and then matsya a person like me can go from 102 smithing to 110 in that time. also cape cant be transferred to a mule :(

In addition to what Kalilla said, I think they wanted to create a strong market for Matsya as a side-benefit for high-level fishers, no? Because even if the R/E item cannot be transferred to another character (such as a crafting mule) the mule itself could still buy the fish off of AH or bazaar (or be sent them the fish) and do the quest so long as it has the requisite skill and possibly any fame, I believe.
The mule/alt character (or even main character) wanting the cape would only need 30 fishing to do the quest so long as they were willing to buy Matsya at a price they found reasonable. At least I don't recall Zaldon ever limiting what fish he accepts based off the character's native fishing skill (other than what was needed to start the quest.)

It's a fish that breaks Lu Sheng's isn't it? My fishing is like lvl 8. I'm not taking it to 100 to catch a fish to get my goldsmithing from 95-110. That's stupid :(. I'm very upset with this. Let's give fish bots more things to sell at crazy inflated prices. Yay dev team!

I wouldn't have as much of a problem with it if people weren't so god damn stupid that they're actually buying the fish for 300k+ a piece.

It's too much effort for the botters to catch 4 days worth of Cave Cherax to gut for the bait to have a terrible catch rate on Mats. They'll mostly be sticking to Haks.

you realize these fish have to be more profitable than hakuryu for people to bother? between the time wasted catching cave cherax > gutting > catching 3 matsya with a stack of bait lol
also lol legit fishers would expect even more gil from this! the fishbotters are the ones keeping these from being 2m each

500-600k per fish is the breakeven point for Ebisu fishers.
After I get my cape I'm never doing them again.

Therein lies the problem, the entire system is pretty ***. It's an abyssmal chance of receiving a cape that has likely a pretty ***effect to begin with all for the low, low cost of astronomical sums.

People are spending more gil trying to get the cape than they would of saved with the skillups the cape would of given them.
That is why I think it's a benefit for fishers, and was not really intended to be distributed like people are trying to do.

I think SE made the drop rate on this cape too low relative to the effort it takes to get fish/etc. It can't really pay itself off.
500k/fish with a 1% drop rate is 50 mil per cape on average. Given the current state of the economy, I can't think of a craft where that is a worthwhile price to pay for a (likely barely) increased skillup rate.
Time and money are interchangeable. If it's not worth getting for someone buying the fish, it's not worth getting for the fisherman.

Trying and succeeding, and if that were the plan then they should have made the fish r/ex.
It isn't nearly worth the money or effort, and the people who are spending millions to get the cape are, quite frankly, dumb.

So what he's saying is it'll eventually be a top tier reward in future Gobbie Bag Giveaways alongside relics/mythics/etc. Got it.

Is it a 1% drop rate?
All i've heard so far are 0/24 and 1/2

who said it was 1%? im betting on 3-5%
you could buy 40 fish and stand a good shot at getting cape.

maybe it's one of those things if u have to ask, you can't afford it. there's plenty of people who can.
waiting testing to support my theory that it will supply possible double skillups like pelican rings do for fishing. .3 +.3 off one fish is noticeable.

They should've had it as another method. Making Fishing the only way to get it is a bit of an outreach to alot of players. Fishing (even just to 30 for the Inside the Belly quest) can be fairly time-consuming

I summed the testimonies from two posts here with the BG thread and came up with 3/221. It's more likely 1~2% than 3~5%.
