Is the Thaumas Hat viable option for Evisceration? How does it compare to the optimum pieces?

Thaumas Hat
STR+6 Critical hit rate +4% Set: Increases STR, DEX, AGI, MND

Hecatomb Cap+1
STR+12 DEX+6 (possible str/dex/atk/DA augments)

Oce+1
DEX+13

Khepri Bonnet
STR+12 DEX+12 Accuracy+13

I'd probably put Khepri as the best, then Heca Cap+1 with the best augments on it second. Thaumas behind them, along with Oce+1

Hmmm.. I dunno that Critical hit rate +4% is getting to me. I have DA+4 Att+10 on the Heca, i guess i'll stick with that for now unless someone shares a different opinion.

It'd also depend on what other pieces of Thaumas you're using for Evisceration. If you have a few pieces, you're going to get the set bonus as well, which might sway it in favor of Thaumas over some of the other options.

I just kinda threw this together, someone can double check my math if they want

Assume Mandau 99 and 195dex and +23 crit damage bonus
53 + 13 + (195 * .3) = 124.5

Assume 6 hits, so 124.5 * 6 = 747

Only thing left to calculate is pdif

3.15 if it crits, 2.52(I think, may be wrong) if it doesn't crit.

I'll just use 12dex vs 4% crit rate, cause it's easier to calculate

Given this setup and assuming 20% crit,
(747 * 3.15 * .2)*1.23 + (747 * 2.52 * .8) = 2084
With +12dex, it'd be 2145
With +4crit, it'd be 2125

Assume base 30% crit, you'd get 2185
With +12dex, it'd be 2249
With +4crit, it'd be 2226

Assume base 40%, you'd get 2287
With +12dex, it'd be 2353
With +4crit, it'd be 2327

As you go up, the extra dex wins with a wider and wider gap. Khepri Bonnet wins no matter what, since it has even more str than Thaumas.

Now let's do that again, only, take away 2fstr from the +dex stuff. This is a comparison with Oce+1 head.

Given this setup and assuming 20% crit and with +11fStr base.
(747 * 3.15 * .2)*1.23 + (747 * 2.52 * .8) = 2051
With +13dex, it'd be 2116
With +4crit/+2fStr, it'd be 2125

Assume base 30% crit, you'd get 2150
With +13dex, it'd be 2219
With +4crit/+2fStr, it'd be 2226

Assume base 40%, you'd get 2250
With +12dex, it'd be 2322
With +4crit/+2fStr, it'd be 2327

Assume base 50%, you'd get 2349
With +12dex, it'd be 2424
With +4crit/+2fStr, it'd be 2428

Again, like above, the higher up you go on crits, the closer the +dex side gets to overtaking the +crit side.

Basically, if the thaumas hat gives you 2 extra fstr, it'll barely win against Oce+1 head. If it only gives you 1 extra fStr, Oce+1 head will barely win. If it gives you 0 extra fStr, Oce+1 head wins by a lot more.

As for the heca cap+1 with the various +str/dex/atk/da...yeah, someone else can do that calculation. I'm not that bored. If someone really is that bored, do set bonus too.

Yeah, I ignored all that enemy stats/alpha/level correction/etc stuff, but you kinda can, because they'll be the same for both scenarios. None of them will throw one piece over the other, it'll only potentially affect how close they come to each other. Also, these are my numbers, so take it for what it is; it's not meant to be the end-all be-all conclusion between the pieces for everyone.

Mandau99/Twash90
Hecatomb Cap w/ DA+4 Att+10 INT4
Subligar +4Crit Rate +4Acc

Gazillion Rex', no Tabard. Waiting for the ticket system to get that! Untill i can get hold of the Bonnet this is what i'm using:

I'd like to add: I have no idea if these sets are optimal! I take note of things here and there but generally i go with what i think is best, not mathmatically best. If you'd like to offer advice i'd love to hear it. :D

Athos tabard isn't a ticket item because it has a high drop rate.

Personally, I don't think an optimal set exist anymore. This game has become far too situational compared to how it was before to be carrying the same mentality. Temps up, temps down, stalwarts, bravers, champions, etc etc, all having different duration. Abyssea buffs. Voidwatch buffs. Not to mention all the old buffs/debuffs: dia/angon/feint/etc/etc.

Back in the old day, slap on that o-hat and scorpion harness and call it a day.

As I told someone else through PM awhile ago, I believe that as long as you're using a certain 'class' or 'tier' of item, you'll be okay. Look at the numbers above; even if you do 1000 WSs, you still wouldn't be able to differentiate between them. Brutal earring vs +4earring. Atheling mantle vs Vigilance Mantle+1 vs Cerberus Mantle for Mercy. Love Torque vs Sea Gorget. Etc etc etc etc ect. For most slots, there is no definitive winner that will win every time in every situation.

That's just my personal opinion, anyways.

Anyways, nothing wrong with your set(body aside), though I did notice something wrong with my set, which I'll fix momentarily.

PS. A person with your resources should be able to 99 that Twashtar. Just do it already <_<

The ticket system only covers the rarest item that the NM is capable of dropping.

Bastok, San d'Oria, Windurst - body
Jeuno I - body
Zilart - pulse weapon (the weapon that has the glow animation when engaged)
Jeuno II - pulse weapon
Promathia, Aht Urhgan - pulse weapon

Athos's Tabard falls roughly under the same drop rate as Ace's Mail off Uptala or Porthos Byrnie off Bismarck. It's not the most common special equipment piece that the NM can drop, but it's far more common than the NQ/pulse weapon that it can.
