Is fTP on Savage Blade gradual, or do you have to reach 2000 and 3000 TP to yield the higher fTP effects?

I'm thinking specifically about the 500 TP Bonus on Moonshade Earring. All things considered with nothing else equipped, will I see an fTP bonus at 1000 natural TP, or do I need to wait until I hit 1500 natural TP to trigger the fTP equivalent of 2000 TP?

Thanks everyone for responding. It sounds like everything can be summarized as follows:

  • fTP is gradual. 1500 TP is more damaging than 1000 TP, and 2000 TP is trivially more damaging than 1999 TP.

  • The fTP slope is steeper/higher between 1000 and 2000 TP vs. 2000 and 3000 TP.

  • Net 2000 TP is the optimal time to use Savage Blade because the TP/fTP payoff diminishes above that point.

Another reason to target an effective 2k TP is that every WS has 3 seconds of fixed delay where you cannot land melee hits associated with it, so WSing less often means less fixed delay.

That said, TP Bonus +1000 augment weapons, everyone with Moonshade, WAR with Fencer and/or Warcry, etc. there are lot of ways to get an effective 2k TP before 2000TP.

Just so you don't math it out wrong: moonshade is 250 TP not 500.

Discussion over at the Whm forum has me wondering - does debuff specific magic evasion work the same way as elemental magic evasion does wrt opening up the 1/8th resist tier?

Specifically, if you say take off carrier's sash that has dark resist on it and wear an augmented Arete del Luna +1 with "Resist Sleep" +15 on it, does the resist sleep on its own give you a 1/8th resist tier on sleep, or do you still need dark elemental resistance from somewhere else.

you'd still need the resist, "Resist Status"+ is just giving you the trait buff so you got a 15%, 7% on NMs chance to just block sleep from occurring. Otherwise it follows the same resist tiers as normal

Yeah. People accidentally do it all the time. They put the reforge on a slip and forget, then try to make it again with the original set.

There is no additional resistance tier that is granted for 2-state negative status effects with elemental resistance equipment equipped. It is possible to cap your magic evasion rate with just Magic Evasion+ alone. This can be seen in the testing here.

"Resist Status+" on equipment is not Magic Evasion+, but operates like Resist Traits instead. It is an entirely separate check to outright "Resist!" a status effect prior to any magic evasion checks performed.

I'm aware that Asura was recently locked down for new accounts and was wondering if there's been any talk at this time about SE giving incentives to transfer off to other servers like they do in FFXIV when one gets too congested, usually like free transfers and all that.

I'm also interested in learning if I should stay put on Asura for a bit of time before transferring to another server in order to use their AH to level up subcrafts to cap, or has QoL with RoV and Adoulin NPCs basically made that moot now? I have Alchemy around 78 and seen it's been needed on the server I wish to transfer to due to AH shouts over the past few months, or would it be best to take another craft to 110ish without shield these days for someone that plans to still be mostly "casual" for the most part?

In typical SE fashion, they've merely said something to the effect of: "We want you to know we've taken steps to think about it...but aren't going to reveal anything right now: source

I'm confused about this bullet point about upgrading Afterglow Mythics via Job Points and S. Astral Detritus. I have an Afterglow Tizona and about to start Death Penalty.

Quote:
As long as you meet the requirements for a weapon type, multiple weapons from the same category, as well as multiple weapon types, can be upgraded at the same time!

  • After I deposit 10,000 Job Points to Oboro for Tizona, and obtain "Balrahn armament" KI, do I have to deposit another 10,000 JP for Death Penalty?

  • When I Afterglow the Death Penalty (via 10,000 Beitetsu), and start trading Oboro S. Astral Detritus to augment, does it augment both Tizona and Death Penalty?

  • Should I complete and Afterglow Death Penalty before depositing JPs/S. Astral Detritus for Tizona?

10k unlocks the whole category, you only do it once

Second part means you can have ranks on multiple weapons at once, but people almost always finish one before starting another

You could have a R10 tiz and an R2 DP, but the swarts won't fill both at once. They only fill the one you trade them with.

You have to trade the weapon alongside the swarts to Oboro, so that should answer your question.

A lot of people do indeed finish one weapon entirely before starting another. That's what I typically do.

But probably worth mentioning that there are reasonable alternate approaches, since the biggest bang for your buck comes from the cheaper lower level ranks. As in, if you have approximately 6 stacks of Swart Astral Detritus and are starting from no augments, you could:

1. Rank up one weapon to R15 cap (595 Swart).
2. Rank up two weapons, each one to Rank 11 (542 Swart, 271 for each weapon) and have half a stack of Swart left over that would get one of them close to Rank 12.
3. Rank up THREE weapons, two of them to Rank 10 (215 Swart each) plus one to Rank 9 (167 Swart). Total of 597 Swarts.

Kind of depends on your goal - are you trying to make one job its absolute best ASAP? Might want to focus on finishing off a single weapon to R15 first, even though the later stages are costly for the incremental gain (i.e., you need a whole stack of Swart to go from Rank 14 to 15). But if you're interested in using multiple weapons right away and not in a rush to max out a specific one, it's not unreasonable to spread out your Astral Detritus if you're on a budget.

RP needed per level is in the table at: https://www.bg-wiki.com/ffxi/Reinforcement_Points

Thank you, I think I understand the Swart now. I think I'm gonna Augment my Tizona to full while at the same time working on Death Penalty from the very beginning. I'm sure by the time I max Aug my Tiz then I'll be ready to Aug DP.

Didn't we decide that's not universally true? I could swear I had this discussion with you in the past but can't find it now.

Some "resist status" on gear is magic evasion like barailment spells, some is "resist!" like job traits. I'm not aware of any easy way to know which is which.

For example, I believe the ailment bodies added in the RoV era (such as Onca Suit & Omen bodies) are all the magic evasion type. If Ashera Harness gave +90 resist paralyze of the "Resist!" type, you should see "Resist!" on almost half of all paralyze cast on you by NMs but I definitely don't.

Apologies if any of this is wrong, it's been years since I thought about this stuff.

Have had the same conversation with people regarding Ashera harness.

I used to run with a "Status ailment resistance"+10 ambu cape on Whm and never saw a single "Resist!" type message from it. Which made me change it to meva+15 instead. Now it could just be rare, but a 10% chance to resist shouldn't be that rare.

I always wondered if the staunch a resist ambu cape and a set of volte was worth it for an anti ailments set

Ultimately I just decided to go with full meva for this purpose rather than test

If I had to test, what would be a good method?

Staunch tathlum+1 is +11 resist ailments. Ambu cape can get up to 10. Then there's Ashera for paralyze specific, and hearty earring which is 5%.

Full set of Volte Jupon is 60%.

Stack the full Volte set and the accessories you get status resist +86, for all statuses.

Finding a mob to test will be trickier, maybe the Locus Ghost Crabs (slow) and Locus Imps (poison, paralyze, slow, amnesia) are good high-level targets where you will see results pretty quickly.

IMO testing with mobs is a more accurate test. Just don't know the interaction with player cast spells with this stuff, for typical testing done in Barrista.

Once you have a baseline, take off piece by piece and see if the resist rate changes, and how it changes. Like taking off hearty earring, what does that do. Less "Resist!"? Just less resist in general?

If you have Ashera it's possible to exceed 100% for paralyze alone with just a staunch tathlum.

Once you have a baseline, take off piece by piece and see what effect that has. Like taking off hearty earring, do you see less "Resist!"? Or less normal resist.

I cannot speak to all gear throughout the years, but I can say with confidence that the Volte Jupon set, Staunch Tathlum, Ambu backs, Omen bodies (and Onca suit) are all the Resist! trait, not magic evasion. I can't think of any that are simply magic evasion.

All of my testing confirms what Argisto said.

Finding monsters to test Resist! traits on is always a pain in the ***--especially if you need to use an NM. My new trick is to use Abyssea with Regen atmas and just let something spam a move.

The interaction between players and Ballista is from such a long time ago I'm curious how relevant for testing it actually is. That said, it's still best to avoid it for any Resist! testing if possible.

Other issues include how it shows up in the chatlog. I remember there was an issue with testing with Eternal Damnation (Doom) from Enigmatic Vampyr's in Ra'Kaznar Inner Court. The PLD tank had hate and received the Resist! message in the chatlog while BRD in the party simply got "XXX evades." I am unsure if the selected target of the WS changes what is seen in the chatlog. Also, I remember this being mentioned as a confirmed bug a while ago but I don't recall if SE ever addressed it.

There are also some things in the environment that cause an enfeebling status effect. The first that comes is the Afflictor in Beadeaux. That seems to ignore any sort of Resist! or magic evasion check. Second are "enemy" structures outside of Adoulin. An example includes the Numbing Blossom in Foret de Hennetiel. I'm pretty sure those react the same way and say "XXX evades" but it's been a while since I tested them.

Dodik said: »

That's pretty much it. I test a piece by itself to get a baseline and then with other gear to make sure everything stacks or if there is a cap. As for your second question, you will see less Resist! messages.

Dodik said: »

Resist! rates cap at 90% on both normal monsters and NMs. However, you must stack to 180 to cap on NMs as Resist! traits are cut in half on them. The only caveat to that is "Death Resistance" and "Terror Resistance." They are both not cut in half on NMs.

Sang Buaya? Is it even possible to resist this guy's stun at all? Seems to be a guaranteed effect based on how damage to him is dealt.

Or maybe there's an upper limit on resist traits regardless of how much you stack.

I can't speak to this NM, but there are certain status effects that cannot be resisted via Resist! or magic evasion. One that comes to mind for this is the Mage Mamool Ja Ambuscade. I don't think you can dodge their mute attack.

However, there's also some random gimmicks you can Resist! like the Terror on Eleventh Dimension (Target) from Kin.

I was randomly looking at the old elemental staves and found a weird pattern where Light Staff appears to sell more (and at a higher price) and the HQ version Apollo's. It looked like this was the case on a few other servers, so it's not just a random anomaly from a low-pop market.

Does anyone know why that might be the case? Other elements don't seem to have that quirk.
