Go on any job
run //gs org
get all the relevant equipment for that job
>>Naegling in Wardrobe, blank.lua has one set with main="Naegling"
//gs l blank
//gs org
>>no gear is moved out
>>move Naegling to main inventory
//gs org
>>unused gear is dumped to bags

You really don't need to load the gearswap in the previous step, but //gs org is not the correct command to use here. //gs org only restores all inventories and has already been used, so it's redundant.

Is anybody experiencing issues logging into FFXI? For the past hour or so I was disconnected, can't really log in. Sometimes it does pass the verification of the POL/SE account but then gets stuck at some point. My friends are in with no problem, in the past when I seldom have had any issues I've used a VPN (from JP or USA) and it worked well but tonight nothing.
- It's not my computer, even tried with another computer at home, nothing.
- It's not my account, tried different ones.
- It's most likely my ISP although I can access any site (hey, I'm typing here!), watch videos, etc. fast.com says my connection is working well.

tracert to ffxi00.pol.com gets some funky timeouts. Just wondering if it's my ISP or if it's a more generalized problem?

I think you're trying to clear your inventory. You don't care where the items go or what order, just out of inventory. Yeah?

I'm just giving you ***because you made a lua with nothing but a Naegling in it. True savage. I'm reading that ***to my grandchildren at night.

There's a better way to do it, but it really doesn't matter. You got it working how you wanted it to and I respect that, so I applaud you. gg /clap

What sort of magic burst numbers should a moderately geared Black Mage (Empy +2, Bunzi Rod r15, Agwu r15, JSE neck +1 r20, that sort of level of gear) be doing on magic bursts against Ongo v15? I was getting a bunch of Stone VI around 20-30k outside of Subtle Sorcery, even when hitting first in the magic burst window, 60-70k I think when not resisted while Subtle Sorcery was up, but not very many hit that 60-70k range. Not sure if that is typical of the gear I've got, but even being fairly new to Black Mage in real content, I feel like I should have been doing much better.

It depends. What buffs were you using, what ML are you, was rayke/burn/impact on? Ongo doesn't take much damage outside of rayke window, so 20-30k looks perfectly reasonable to me

There's really no need to do anything with gearswap at all for this.

You can just do a freeze of only your inventory with a single item in it(i think I did need to have something in there, or it didn't do anything. But once the freeze is made, you don't actually have to have that item on you anymore. My mule doesn't have the item I used to make the file, and this still works for them.) I named my empty inventory freeze file freespace.

//org freeze inventory freespace

will create the inventory only freeze. Since it's only trying to bring your inventory alone to this state, it doesn't care where it's putting anything it removes from your inventory. Although, you do need to have any bag you want it throwing things into assigned as a dump bag in the settings.xml.

Doing //org organize freespace will tell organizer to try to match just your inventory to the file you made. It's a pretty long command though, so I aliased mine to //freespace. Add the alias to your init.txt. You can alias it to whatever, if you want a shorter command.

alias freespace org organize freespace

Ultimately, it's the same end result either way. and you could add loading your blank gs lua to an alias if you wanted a single command method of triggering it. This method just bypasses any interaction with gearswap, and you keep your actual job lua loaded.

I'll have to check with our RUN on Rayke, appreciate the feedback. Not sure we were coordinating anything particularly well, my guess is we blew cooldowns at the start which is where I saw a couple really good hits and the rest was just slowly grinding HP down.

I'm curious why not just a regular file instead of a lua? Empty inventory, freeze inventory to a file and use it later to tidy your inventory?

This was my first post on the matter. I'm asking questions to try and figure out if there is a reason why we're doing it unconventionally, because there could be; but also to tactfully suggest that it's unconventional without just saying "That's stupid, do it this way".

Freeze is not just about locking your inventory so you can restore it. You can also create freeze with the specific intent of purging items from your inventory as well.

This is the "freeze inventory to a file" part of my first post.

Organize works, but it uses both get and put. You only need to purge items in this case so you can use tidy if you freeze with that purpose in mind. You're not wrong here because it will work as intended, how it works is something that might lead to mistakes or misunderstanding.

The "use it to tidy your inventory later" part of my first post.

I really don't know why Nynja is carrying on like that. I told him I appreciate that he was able to come up with an unconventional way to get something accomplished. I still think he should stick with it simply for the fact that a Naegling only lua is useful beyond a meme.

*** you for saying I don't know what I'm talking about though. That's not some ***you say when you're making workarounds to problems that don't really exist.

If anyone cares what the generated lua is compared to a written gearswap:

You do need at least one item in your inventory when you create your freeze file, so it's not technically empty. The addon needs something in the table to compare. That said, I do not think it is a requirement to even have this item in your possession. It only needs to be in the lua for the sake of comparison.

Holy fuuuuuuck
my way works all the same and its not any extra work.

I was asking why the org function wasnt working in that scenario, and I ultimately discovered that //gs org wont put things away if everything in sets is parked in wardrobes. I just tested it out again on a much larger scale operation:
Make sure you have room in your dump bags.
Make a copy of your lua, preferably one that has a lot of its gear parked in wardrobes so theres less to delete.
Strip out all of the items that are currently in your inventory.
run //gs org
Note how no equipment moves, not even the equipment that is currently in your inventory that should be getting moved to bags.
Pull one single item from your wardrobe thats in your lua
run //gs org
Note how all the gear from your inventory gets moved to bags

tl;dr
I asked questions about something and discovered a potential bug in organizer
I worked around the issue and I'm able to accomplish what I want to accomplish.

How to clear you inventory with organizer

Step 1: Prep your inventory

Move all but one item out of your inventory. It doesn't matter where you put it in this case because the file we are creating only deals with your main inventory.

//org freeze inventory filename
I use filename for the example, but use something you'll remember

This will create a lua file called filename.lua in the addons/organizer/data/inventory folder.

Feel free to use the code below if you want to skip this step:

Copy this to your editor and save it in addons/organizer/data/inventory/ filename.lua

Step 2:

I mean, you're kinda done already. You would go on about your day after step one and whenever you want to dump your inventory:

//org tidy inventory filename

Come to your own conclusions about which way is or isn't 'better', but one of these ways requires less steps and has zero dependency on gearswap.

Needing to clear your inventory manually first before having organizer clear your inventory for you is a catch-22.

Whole point, for me, is to not have to manually put things away from inventory.

Using the code above to create the organizer file, which is effectively what Nynja was doing with the GS file, works and doesn't need you moving items manually.

Seun's approach and Nynja's approach are identical in that way. They both need a file created manually first (or moving stuff from inventory manually which is a non-starter).

I like the 'org tidy' bit though, that's one thing I never got about organizer (it's not very well documented).

If you modify a loaded settings file while in game, it will probably get overwritten when the addon saves it again, which may happen upon un/re-load. If you don't reload the addon after modifying a settings file, it won't have the changes you made to the settings.

Also, I originally made organizer with the intent of using it with gearswap but decided it was enough code to pull it out into its own addon. Idk why exactly I never documented it, but I think I was fading out of the game at that point.

I did make sure to unload reload for all characters.
I tried making these changes while not loaded etc
Before the game too

Never got a prompt from notepad++ like with other luas that my settings xml was reset

will be interesting to see if they stay when I log back in today
