lol at this. The Tos also says you can be banned for no reason. Also a rather decent amount of banned people had no clue what was going on. Theres even stories of people who never got anything and never were actually there when the duping happened cause they were there to buy if theres dropped

Of course they can ban you for no reason. That's a standard thing, ALL MMO's have that clause in their ToS. S-E ain't unique in that regards...

As for the people that were just there to buy their gear, and had no idea what was going on, like I said, I totally sympathize. I'm betting they were an extreme minority of the banned people, though. And to those that were banned due to "guilt of association", I hope they appealed it, and for their sake, I hope they win...and if they didn't, I agree that S-E was *** up in those very few cases.

But still, what does that leave? 20-30 people out the the hundreds banned for doing it purposefully? Not a hefty petition...

in the last year FFXI has got shi- tons of content so it shows that FFXI is somewhat "important" to SE

letting it die would be a seriously HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE....

Looking at some of the "survivors", it's hard to agree with this. Some of the people who didn't get banned were as involved, if not more so, than the big names banned for these dupings. You take a look at some of the people still walking around, people who bragged about it in their linkshells and parade their 5/5 Salvage pieces...

And bottom line is, life goes on. The game isn't going to come to a stand still just because some cheaters got banned. The only possible negative is that people have lost friends; that's too bad they cheated, though. You cheat, you get banned. You don't cheat, you don't get bad. It really is a very simple logic.

Any company can ban at any time they like. That's their reserved rights as the provider of the service. Doesn't mean you're going to login tomorrow banned for jack all. This misconception that Square Enix are stupid is hopelessly wrong. In terms of financing, they're pretty clever really. Just look at the security token and ask yourself how much money they made from that. SE are not stupid, and do not ban people for nothing.

And really, on subject... Who really cares? Not as many as people think really care these people were banned. Oh boo hoo, the game has a thousand less cheaters. Good. Good riddance.

The bulk of the community was happy about it. I'm betting the majority of people that were signing that earlier petition were all either friends of dupers, linkshell members of the dupers shells that never got their duped equipment, or the dupers themselves.

Basically, S-E will never see "tons of people" complain like hell because tons of people won't be complaining. And even if there were, remember when tons of people complained for a windowed mode? That took 5 years. Are the dupers gonna come back in 5 years and pick up their characters if S-E were to reverse the decision in a typical S-E time frame? Doubt it...

Probably missed my ninjer edit I was just debating with mabrook im not defending the dupers they got what was coming

Not all dupers got perma bans, and there are some self confessed dupers that got nothing.

So some got away with it, some got 72hr ban, some got perma-ed.

So SE used every level of power they could have done (from the gentle to the extreme) showing they aren't complete hard-*** (they could have perma-ed everyone) but not gonna let this continue.

So yes probably it was 'reasonably' fair.

Seriously Admiral Ackbar said it best about this thread...

The sophisticated troll knows there are far better things to post that'll get people riled up, like softcore mithra porns.

Really, if people didn't go on strike back when this first hit in January, what are the odds that folks are going to do this now?

The best chance that pack of cheaters ever had (albeit slim to none) of getting back their toons would have been to band together and sue SE, BUT SE and the courts would have laughed at them... I can almost see the judge go, "You want me to do what now?"

EN SUM: Old Drama = fail drama...

Just cause they used different lvls of punishment doesnt make it fair. If what I've read has any truth to it some of the very worse dupers like people with 17 salvage peices fully upgraded were 72 hours while people who werent even logged on when the dupe happened got banned

Very true! Just like the time a wobble of fatties sued McDonalds for making them fat. Why, if I hold my head out my window, I can almost hear the Judge's laughter rolling along the valley I live in.

But they got duplicated drops, right? That isn't their fault, but they still got them, which makes them guilty. You don't have to agree with it for it to be fair; it is fair. They got duplicated drops, other players didn't. They get banned, other players don't.

If we're on the crusade of ridding the game of cheaters ... when can the mass bannings for windower users begin?? How about people who use fillmode during nyzul?? The very existence of this site could be called into question based on which cheat/exploit/violation of the ToS SE wanted to uphold. I'm just tired of this holier-than-thou reaction going on. People cheated, yes I understand that, and it shouldn't go without punishment, but the hell if you execute someone for smoking some pot.

You don't get banned for nothing, rofl. If they were in the zone at time of duping, they are guilty by association.

Theres alot of things not fair in the world. Just cause you get a benefit from it doesnt make you guilty of a crime. The people who did it are. Or do you think we should track down everyoen who bought the alex from the dupers on the cheap too and ban them. Hell beating AV with kclub souleater is apparently not fair we should pwn everyone who got drops from that.

Whether you think it's HELP I AM TRAPPED IN 2006 PLEASE SEND A TIME MACHINE or not, it's clearly a legitimate enough excuse for SE to use their ban hammer.

Bystander apathy sucks ***. It's debatable if they should have been banned for not reporting it, but quite honestly this is old as ***and this topic needs to die already.

I honestly think that we're putting way too much focus on this topic. Seriously, this isn't reality, it's a videogame. Life has tons of exceptions to rules, videogames don't. You cheat and get caught, oh well, see you on another account or totally different game. Accept the punishment if you did wrong or were with people who did wrong and move on.

As for the whole alliance breaking thing? Again, use your head. You don't just break alliances during a run for the hell of it, in any situation. That should immediately bring up a red flag in anyone's mind. A simple "why did we break the alliance?" is all you need to get the answers. If you sense something shady, get out.
