PLD Aeolian Edge Build

Does anyone have a build + atma's for PLD Aeolian Edge?

This is the basic build I use.

Are you AE'ing solo or with support? Has a lot to do with what your build will be.

And should I get -pdt gear for pulling?

Solo as in boosting my friends.

This is my set. Its not the best you can get, but I average 900 dmg w/o wind atmas or ascetics tonic. I can do 1800 with Gales/Ultimate/Beyond. I like to farm with RR/SS/Apoc so I can still pull out my Almace when needed and not have it be worthless

This is the gearset I currently use for solo AE. The set above (Drayco) is more suited towards having an Ochain, and while I am working on mine, it is not done yet, so my set is more toward a lesser shield. This set will work on pretty much any mob as long as they are EM or lower, or any MNK type mob (mandy/apkallu) no matter what level. I generally start with this, and if I am taking all zero's, I'll swap pieces with MAB until I can't anymore.

Atma I use is Mounted Champion/Gales/Smiting Blow. You can also use Ultimate for Smiting, just preference on my part.

Basically, I throw up refresh (I tend to /rdm for MAB trait, refresh, and WS availability, since it's not native to PLD), stoneskin, and phalanx. Then I gather all the mobs I can, find my spot, sentinel, recast phalanx, then go to town. You should get a WS off every 2-4 seconds with this.

My PDT set is


You should be able to get 50% PDT if you have gil to spare or the ability to get the HQ body. If you don't have Ochain, go for the highest defense size 1 shield you can get (Bloom buckler?). If you don't want to spend money on Mkris, don't. If you don't have Valhalla Helm, get Chersos Helm.

My AE set is


I must emphasize that getting a superior PDT set is much more important than a good AE set. You should be getting 100% TP within 3-5 seconds, so producing damage is much easier than is your survival.

Atma choice should be Gales/Smiting/Ultimate. If you are using a mob that is particularly vicious, I would first suggest switching to something you can manage better, beside that you can use MC instead of Ultimate.

Any other option for head? Have an MKris so low on gil :)

Sell the Kris. Its doing virtually nothing for you.

Trade back? Its a waste of money however it was attained

Any tips on farming Dark Rings?

And any tips skilling Shield Skill. Currently 260 w/o gear or merits.

I know this is the PLD forum but if u have BLU leveled, you can 1-shot (charged whisker) the melee tonberry pretty easy, pull the melee side and just whisker em (very very effective, this is the way i got my rings).

On PLD tho, i'd aim to something that cant 1-shot u (something like funguars).

Once your skill is up you can use pld to aoe burn various mobs in the zone. Get your amber to your preferred level and just kill as fast as possible. I'd do it on mobs that don't give amber if you want to set your amber to a non-capped level.

For skilling shield, get as much pdt and shield skill as you can set full regen atmas and let a large group of mobs beat your face in for a few hours. Chigoes in attohwah work well for a start and then you can move to altepa mandies.

I just updated my THF AE build by adding Hecate's Earring, Moldavite Earring, Chimera Hairpin, Breeze Gorget, and Breeze Belt. All of these gears can be equipted by all jobs. I literally went from doing 400-700 AE damage to 800-1000 AE damage.
